The most underrated tune on here. The build up of this song is incredible. Once it gets to 3:14 crank it up. You'll get it lol

I personally always enjoy this song, especially the lyrics. And the new version of this song also by NIN is great! Except for the fact they cut out the last part of the lyrics.

Im a die hard hip hop and R&B guy who grew up in the mid 80s to late 90s as a teen and I remember in middle school I dissed and dismissed most alternative music and specifically dissed on Nine Inch Nails. Until the film Prayer of the Rollerboys with Corey Haim came out. It had head like a hole on the soundtrack and in the film. Immediately was drawn to it and now, 30 years later almost I consider this albun Pretty Hate Machine in its entirety to be in my top 5 albums of all time

Sadly I had to wait a while to fully appreciate this album, I was too young when this came out (est. 1986) so I only enjoyed for a while what was on the radio in the early 90s. But I'm glad it struck a nerve enough to come back and haunt me in the late 90s...

(According to google) Just when everything was making sense You took away all my self confidence Now all that I've been hearing must be true I guess I'm not the only boy for you How could you turn us into this? After you just taught me how to kiss you I told you I'd never say goodbye I'm slipping on the tears you made me cry But that's what I get (That's what I get) Why does it come as a surprise? To think that I was so naive Maybe didn't mean that much But it meant everything to me

His voice in this song sounds disturbingly similar to the 80s Leonardo from ninja turtles.... kinda like Jim Morrison sounds like Fred Flintstone and Billy Corgan sounds like Pee Wee Herman... only in certain songs though. Love all of them and people will want me dead for putting these comparisons in their head lol...
@darthgraggus26905 жыл бұрын
Now that you mention it he DOES sound like Leonardo from the old TMNT shows. Interesting.

A lot of musicians will tell you lyrics are secondary and or complimentary of the composition rather than the focus of the piece. I honestly love the super melodramatic lyrics against the amazingly hard/industrial/synth instrumental.
