As a young seer, Sojourner Ji always saw what future and predictions could occur by relying on his trusty hexagrams. As the Deputy Captain of the Fangshi Guild Elite Guard, he along with Yi learned the art of Tao from sensei Lear. When Lear left to live with the primordial roots in the spirit realm, Ji dedicated his years to bring hope to ones future and aid them on their journeys, giving them predictions to their next achievement. However, Ji was far more than just a fellow seer. His body possessed immunity to poison and sickness, while his age stopped completely. Ji became an immortal being, able to live generation after generation. He saw his friends die to the virus that infected Penglai, and watched as the grotto twisted and changed over time. He was like a god, worthy of being part of the Council. Even Eigong was fascinated, to the point of experimenting with his immortality, to make herself and the Sols immortal beings as well. To Ji however, he wished to end his immortality. He was tired of seeing death, and endured enough loneliness as if. He wanted release. And fortunately, he wasn't invincible. He knew he would be free of his curse the moment he was struck....And now....he can finally rest...

He is actually much older than Lear based on the story he tells us in other boss section.

It's he. His name Ji (姬) is probably based on Ji Chang (姬昌), the founding father of the Zhou dynasty of China, who was known for his divination in Chinese Mythos

Since Ji died by the end of the fight, I assume his immortality was merely ageless and cannot be affected by any diseases or sickness. However, being physicially and fatally wounded would mean certain death as it would strip away the ability. To be honest, this form of immortality is not too bad, you can die but as long as you're not harmed physically by swords or any types of normal weapons,... (I guess?), you'll live for eternity.

This game is so good. It made me like platforming for once. They got so many things right, and the devs clearly loved making it. Definitely game of the year material for me.

Can we agree that Yi was basically fighting an actual f*cking GOD here?... Ageless, Immortal, lived so long he's basically the Scribe of their whole History, is extremely proficient with all sort of weapons and can conjure BLACK HOLES. Ji is a GOD and now I am laughing at how Yi must have reacted when first experiencing that mentioned black hole, running for dear life in the opposite direction to not get spaghettified in a "shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit-" manner. And the music, THE MUSIC!! Makes me think of what a traditional orchestra plays when trying to portray what Buddha's Congregation when floating down on the Purple Cloud sounds like, like in Pompoko. Actually, all the bosses' music are absolutely awesome but this one does take the cake.

Wonderful boss. Possibly the most honest of all bosses, with no broken hitboxes or abnormally difficult attacks, and at the same time the most varied, interesting. So far he was the last for me, about 2-3 left.

Ji was honestly one of my most favorite Sols to fight in the game. His fight was a beautiful dance overall and it was just so pleasant to do. On the other hand I felt incredibly irritated fighting the Fengs (I fought Ji first). There was just something about the Fengs fight that was...not fun, especially in the 2nd phase.

I think most people feel that way about the twins. It's a very chaotic fight with a lot of BS. Being knocked into the snake attacks by Fuxi's swipe attacks felt particularly unfair, though I guess there's a jade for that.

I feel like they need to fix the parry hitboxes for the inward ground swipe attack. I can’t ever parry it unless I move close to it, and it registers always as an imperfect parry. I agree to it not being fun. Ji on the other hand was probably the most fun boss fight I’ve had in this game.

im an animation lover so i was disappointed by the puppet animation of the fengs fight, so imagine my hype when the ji fight began, everything single movement was so smooth

All the Tianhuo mutants use puppet animation, which I find is a great way to express how unnatural they are. Though I have no idea why Nuwa was also done with puppet animation

in all honesty, i have a theory that eigong was mind controlling fuxi to slow yi’s progress just like how i thought she put lady ethereal’s brain back in the cortex center to stop yi from getting the seal freely

@@VietDang-yk1yt It is not really a theory since Eigong already has said that the virus seems to work on a hivemind. Meaning that due to how Fuxi is now basically a rotting corpse, can easily be told by the tianhuo of Yi's plan on New Kunlun. It also brings an interesting fact that perhaps the reason Nuwa was not affected as much by the mutated virus was that it does not see her as a threat, either seeing her still as subservient to her brother or someone able to communicate to other sols with Fuxi being the medium.

I love the contrast of Fuxi's stiff motion between the other bosses. Makes sense since he's basically a reanimated corpse by now only held together by Nuwa's makeup and a SHIT TON OF STEROIDS

This boss was maybe the easiest boss in the game for me, which is weird considering how much I usually struggle with difficult games, but I only needed a handful of attempts to beat him compared to the 50+ of everyone else! I actually thought there would be a third phase to this boss and was surprised when there wasn't

i believe its because he tests everything that we have learned and we just have become really good at what we learned, he is basically like fighting against Genichiro for the third time, he may be fast and have an entirely different moveset, but at the end of the day, we are just too good at this game.

@@VietDang-yk1yt Genichiro is gotta be Eigong's first phase. No surprising or complicated moves(except for the fast red dive-strike), just a quick series of attacks and dashes. Her other phase gives me such trouble that I manage to beat her first phase hitless most of the time.

The grotto of scriptures pretty much trains you to get good at directional parrying, and that's the primary gimmick of the fight.

He's unaffected by Tianhuo and only Solarians infected with the virus turn into the flowers that bear tao fruits on death

Because tao fruits appear on decayed bodies. Ji's dead body showed no signs of decay according to the description when you inspect it

The other ones were afflicted with the disease they were trying to find a cure to. So to add to how their bodies are afflicted, the effects of the sickness, having merged with the energy of their old planet and New Kunlan, the bodies produced a Greater Tao Fruit. Because Ji is essentially an immortal, they can't get sick at all. So they just die of old age after being grievously wounded and putting their all into having Yi kill them.

Ji was never infected by the Tianhuo, so you cannot obtain a Tao fruit.

Lore wise, Ji is literally the source of both immortality and the Tianhao, no wonder there's no usual death consequences.
