When did the fear of being sued in a scam start? I had a really thoughtful, nice, compassionate friend when I was in China. One day we walked past these kids trying to get their bike up some stairs. I went over to help them. When I came back to my friend she was impressed and said she hadn't even considered helping them - apparently because she had just gotten used to avoiding those kinds of situations. Even though she was such a nice person, she was still affected by that fear of scams. She is even conservative about using tissues to save trees, which is absolutely insane considering how every person in china carries a pack of tissues which they mainly use for wiping down tables haha

That's so true, now in China if people see someone getting beaten they walk on by no matter how brutal it is. There was a news report on a man beating up a 2 year old; the boy and the man didn't even know each other, the man just randomly came up to the boy and kicked him down then started stomping on his head and hand. The thing that disgusted me the most is that in the video you see people witness it but continue to walk on by and do nothing. I can somewhat understand this because there was a different news report where a grandma in China fell down the stairs and a man helped her, but then the granny lied in court saying the man that helped her was the cause of her injuries and sued him. I see how people in China are afraid to step in because they don't want to be reliable but to compare situation, don't you think you should draw the line when a 2 year old is being beaten with a broom, dustpan, and being stomped on? I am happy to report that the baby is fine and the man is in jail, but am sad to report that at least 3 people walked by during the crime and took no action.
