I am having a conflict with a Chinese colleague and the guy argues exactly like in this video. Should be used in intercultural training. So spot on.

@Katie Lei Don't know where that happens. I have a meeting at 10 am and we are probably going to have a shouting match.

Chinese don't have the concept of "ALL IN" for anything. They like to have that "grey area" in which they have the wiggle room to explain if something happens. It is not just perceiving obstacles, but also perceiving success. If you were successful, you want to start thinking about what might be failure soon. And if you are done something, you might want to figure out if the done deal might have crack that might lead to failure down the road. That is the Chinese mind … "禍福相依" … meaning the good might come with the bad, and the bad might bring the good. So you will never get a straight answer to a simple question or a statement. You will never get a total confrontation. For them, questions, answers, confrontations and resolutions are just Continuous Adjustments to Reality.

oh my goooooddddd this video is perfect. i studied abroad last semester in Beijing and was informed AFTER arrival that construction was going to be done on my dorm the last month and a half of my semester there and that I might have to find housing on my own (like, outside of campus). a month before renovations were scheduled to start i went to the international students' office with a friend to ask them what my options were...to which their response was “知道吗,很多学生都有这个问题。“ definitely my biggest WTF moment in china....but i still love it and can't wait to go back lmao. ay TMD y'all hirin?

Coming from a family of writers, I was going to tell that guy not to quit his job. But he went and did it without asking me. And, yea, that East Asian indirect speech thing.

I remember I watched this video before coming to China, and I thought it looked a bit biased, and that there is no way that could be true. After studying there and working part-time for two years I watched it again and yeah.... it is like this.

do a video on swearing/curse words in chinese or english, and the common misunderstandings and conflicts. a chinese guy only knows three words in english, "hello, how are you?" and "fuck you, fuck you very much" which he really means thank you.

this is what hedging is all about lmao “我觉得吧,这个事情大概哦,我是说大概,应该是不太可能出大问题的。。。吧?” Well, I suppose this probably, I mean likely, might not be very possibly happening....is that right? If there is any people other than British that are good at not getting the point, it has to be Chinese
Just tell them directly bad straightly. Lol. Chinese people believe heaven. Don't you guys remember the emperor in heaven from West Journey? But this heaven is different from the heaven Christians believe.
