I know that this original version was designed to be a beat em up quarter drainer in the arcades, but I'm so glad Tecmo went a different route with the NES version

We had this exact arcade at our house when we were kids. The previous owners left it for us. Sister ended up breaking it and dad sold instead of fixing it. I was so mad.

Timing, patience and angles is everything on this game. Managed to clock it with one credit back in the day, fantastic graphics and gameplay for the time.

Bullshit, Johnny. I’d like to see you do that. My dad bet the same thing against somebody else in the arcade. My dad was so full of himself so he bet this stranger that he could do just that. And if he didn’t…..that person couod fuck his wife (my mother) as well as beat his son with a rubber hose for 30 minutes. (Me). Well, my dad fucked it up. Big time. He died twice almost immediately. Then did okay for a while until he got to the part where you cross traffic. Fuck him

He says desukoi which is a taunt in sumo. It's kind of nonsensical now but its etymology can be found in the Dokkoissho dialect used in the Hokkaido and Tohoku regions and in that dlalect it would mean "where are you going?" Interesting tidbit...this is also what E. Honda says in SF II when he does his headbutt move.

Level 3 was my favorite! I love the Vegas scenery combined with the cheesy lounge music! It just seemed way more fun crashing through all the different objects on this level.

Loved this game. Artwork is amazing and this hasn't aged at all. Truly a masterpiece during the quarter machine video arcade era. Best of it was the texture and "feel" of this game. The punches and hits you make on the enemy was so juicy and satisfying.

True story: It was 88, I was in third grade. Went to this small arcade near my school and saw this game. I was enjoying watching another guy play and then saw the game over screen... from that moment, and until 1993 I would literally search for this game first thing when entering any arcade. If it was there, I’d get the f out in panic.

One of Bosses in this game is the Road Warriors who were a real Wrestling Tag Team. They were Animal and Hawk. They wore face paint and had shoulder pads with spikes on them.

Uno de los juegos beat em all más difíciles en su momento, a diferencia de otros se su género donde los golpes de los protagonistas tenian prioridad porque eran más rápidos y los enemigos se acercaban solos para recibir su paliza, este juego era difícil porque los golpes del ninja eran lentos y no tenía un "ataque de emergencia" para salir de situaciones difíciles en las que te rodeaban, los enemigos se acercaban pero tenías que medir bien tus golpes y ángulo del escenario para que no te atacarán entre cada ataque, nunca pude terminarlo con una sola ficha por su enorme grado de dificultad.

This game was brought down by it's soundtrack and the recycled boss enemies. In a game with only 6-7 levels, you shouldn't be using the same boss guys over and over again. This is one of the rare cases where the Nintendo version of the game was far better than the arcade version.

I guess I just want the missing subtext here. I feel like back stories on the reoccurring gang members would help flesh this out. Like Aquaman 12-pack. Waiting in pools of water to pull his victims under. He is uniquely well suited for that task. He is a serial killer but what triggered it? Seems more than he was a champion high-school swimmer and ne day his coach fingered his butthole after practice. Traumatic as that probably is, a lifetime dedication to the point of body modification just drown people? It just doesn't track. More is needed.

it was one of my favorite arcade games when I was 10yo. I used to play in a bar where people usually spent one coin to finish the game. The bar owner saw it was not given so much money as he expected. So him asked to a guy to modify the game difficult. It didn't help lol and sadly the arcade was removed from the bar -sad history :-(

I thought exactly the same! Probably is. Ken's stage music intro from Street Fighter 2 is also taken from the song "Mighty Wings" by Cheap Trick...or vise versa :-) !

The North American version, this being the Japanese, was censored because that particular track was a little too close to the Black Sabbath song.

I, of course, noticed it immediately. So many eighties video games take direct inspiration from pro wrestling. There's a Stan Hansen reference in there too.

Un juego al que le temía muchísimo, porque la ficha no me duraba más de un par de minutos 🤣 se veía divertido pero sumamente difícil, gracias por dejarme ver el recorrido completo, veo que también le sufriste. Pero con continúes infinitos solo es cosa de paciencia. Saludos.
