Sydney-based production company Redscope Films have more than ten years' experience running a wide range of equipment for projects including commercial work, travel, documentaries and music videos. Now they’ve integrated the new Ninja Ultra into their kit; here’s how it helped simplify their workflow.
Adam Dionisio, Co-Founder and Creative Director of the company, often uses a minimalist workflow when he’s travelling and filming alone. “When it’s just yourself and a backpack you want to keep things as light as possible. This is where the Ninja Ultra being compact and lightweight has been perfect for me.”
When Adam and his team are on set, being able to toggle between features on a production monitor is often taken for granted. However, with Atomos operating system AtomOS 11, quickly responding to a change of settings in false colour, focus peaking or LUTs on an intuitive screen has made the on-set experience even easier for him and his DOPs.
In addition to working in HDMI and SDI, the Ninja Ultra also allows for dual recording in ProRes and H.265, meaning Adam can shoot projects with a higher frame rate. “Dual recording has given us peace of mind. Knowing we have back-ups is one less thing to worry about”.
When recording, Adam’s files are automatically stored via the cloud thanks to the Atomos Connect module. This means the post-production process can happen at once and helps the team stay on top of tight deadlines. Adam explained: “Atomos Cloud Studio has become an incredible tool for us; while filming we are able to connect with our clients and provide them with live feedback.”
