An easier way to eject the hinges: Take a Bic Round Stic ink pen apart and retrieve the hollow cone-shaped piece from the writing side. Press the back side (what was once fitted inside the pen tube) against the hinge catches and watch as they effortlessly eject. It is the perfect size and shape to compress the circular clips and force them through! I discovered and shared this long before replacement shells were available but it seems that the Internet has forgotten. ;)

That’s because he did it wrong. They are supposed to be pushed out with the hinges open to the detent position. It can still be difficult to retract the clips and push at the same time without one of a couple other tricks: Makho’s 3D printed hinge tool My Bic Round Stic Tric[k] Take the cone piece from a Bic Round Stic ink pen and press the part from inside the tube body against the right hinge clips. It should pop out of the right if your hinges are aligned. If not, make sure your hinges are aligned (open to the detent) and push through the hollow part with a screwdriver or something. It should pop out with very little force. You will see that the hinges are slotted to fit tabs inside the GBA shell and the slots/tabs only align when the hinge is in the detent position. Of course, this is only true if you haven’t incorrectly forced your hinges in/out in the past. To get the left hinge, close the lid and trim the Bic piece down to fit perfectly between the structural rib and the left hinge clips. It should fit tight enough to put pressure on the clips when you just wedge it in there. Insert it and then open the hinge to the detent. If it doesn’t pop out a bit here then you can push all the way through with something long and thin. I use a $0.03 watercolor paintbrush because it’s thin enough to fit in the tool and long enough to reach through from the right hinge. It should pop out with almost no effort.

Nice job! How much do you usually make from SP systems if you replace the shells?
@RetroGameTech12 жыл бұрын
@adamsbil1 Thanks. The regular AGS-001 SPs are very common and not worth much. I bought mine for £4.99 a couple of years ago used from Gamestation. An SP console on it's own in good refurbished condition is maybe worth between £10-£15. A bit more if you have the chargers and some games etc. The AGS-101 on the other hand is much harder to find and worth about 3x the price of the AGS-001.

It is pretty easy, if you push the light button and the screen gets dimmer, its an AGS 001, and if the screen gets brighter, its an AGS 101. Though called a backlight, the AGS 001 actually has a frontlight, so it isn't as bright, but uses less power than a backlight. The AGS 101 has a true backlight that is turned on by lightswitch.

Took me 6 hours to do this. (I'm not a tech savvy guy) however I still messed it up. My hinge is extremely loose now. It wasn't before since I am using the same hinges. I'm thinking maybe I put the wrong hinge on hr wrong side? And I can't reopen it to try to fix it because I completely stripped on of the Tri wing screws and I'm not able to open it. I guess I'm stuck with a crappy ass hinge.
