If I was a Pokémon fan, I'd be PISSED at Game Freak. You have to buy 2 games + dlc to get the 'full experience' ($150+) each time a new Pokémon is released. $30 for Palworld that's still in early access? Pokémon looks like a cash grab in comparison. I'd be fking embarrassed if I defended Pokémon.

It's what Legend of Arceus was supposed to be. Just goes to show how bad Nintendo and Game Freak really are. It's just a matter of time before investors start to catch on and when that happens Nintendo is doomed. Shiny locking, not releasing old games on a switch port, getting rid of national dex, and showing its possible to bring it back by adding DLC. Taking away futures that were fun or convenient in future games. Just a few sins, pokemon has made over the years.

You forgot, sh*tty gameplay, glitches, horrible linear maps and level design, and lazy Pokemon designs ever since gen 8. Remember, Game Freak in Japan quite literally says, "Why bother? It'll sell well, anyway." In some small way, the fans are kinda to blame as well, as they kept on buying trash games like Sword and Shield, and those HORRENDOUSLY AWFUL Sinnoh "remakes" that are literally worse than the original games.

Also, making moves unusable in between generations. And "updating" Diamond and Pearl by literally only adding 3D graphics based on the low-detail sprites from 15 years ago, but none of the actual improvements from Platinum, which was 13 years old at the time.

The problem with Pokémon is that if you’ve played one, you’ve played them all. When you beat the story and the tiny bit of content at the end, there is nothing else to do. Even catching all the Pokémon is impossible most of the time unless you live in Japan and go to all the events. Even when you complete the Pokédex, all you get is a (Good Job! Woah!)

Yeah while with Palworld.. They WANT fans to love it, and do whatever they want with it. Even allowing MODS, something Pokemon would NEVER allow. Heck Pocket Pair would probably even allow fans to make FAN games, no questions asked except "Credit us, or make your game REQUIRE our game" Even now, if it got shut down. It has OFFLINE mode and Private Servers. They gave fans the freedom, Nintendo and Gamefreak didn't give their fans. Which is ironic considering the slavery in Palworld.

Pokemon was destined to be in this position. All it needed was time and someone with the balls to throw it out there. This is what happens when you regurgitate the same formula for decades. When you've played one Pokemon game you've played them all. The story may change a bit but the overall theme and mechanics have NEVER changed. They haven't even been built upon and expanded, not even for its first consoles release.

The closest they got to changing the themes (story-wise) was the story of the Gen 5 games, it's no surprise the Pokemon game with the most realistic and well-executed story is one of, if not the best ones, ever since then, it's been a downward spiral of sewage sandwiches, gen 5 was the peak before the fall imo. ... "From the perspective of Pokemon trainers, Team Plasma wants to separate loved ones. From the perspective of Team Plasma, Pokemon trainers want to enslave Pokemon to use for their personal purposes. Both ideals presented are respectable. I remember being one of the few individuals who thought it was peak Pokemon, yet fan feedback was largely negative. It's no surprise that TPC begun regressing post gen 5 and the same fans are now praising the current generation and trying so hard to tarnish Palworld.

@@odindarkll3706 Weirdly, something very similar happened with the Star Trek series' show: Deep Space 9 (DS9), fans hated it during airing, but over a decade after it ended it's long run it is now generally regarded by all Star Trek fans as the one of the best Star Trek shows ever (if not the best)---that show too had a grittier (yet still Trek) tone to it, the "perfect balance" if you will. Regarding Palworld, I think it's hard to determine if those tarnishing Palworld are the same Gen 5 haters, or if they are just people hypnotized by the IP (the Standom), or if it's Gen Alpha brain rot increasing envy as a motivator, or some combination, I can't really say. Generally, like with DS9, from what I hear nowadays, most fans that have been around since Gen 5 think it's one of the best to come out. Either way there is this ironic pattern where (vocal) fans of utopian leaning series crap on any IP, show, or game that moves even slightly closer to a middle-ground in tone between Utopia and Dystopia (middle-ground ie the reality we live in).

Not only that, but the sales were also among the lowest units sales. Of course it's popular now, but it's too late imo. Either way one thing is certain: TPC needs competition and perhaps now they can step up their game.

@@odindarkll3706 DS9 came out in the 90s, I've been around long enough, and I know, but yeah, I think Palworld will eventually shed or absorb the once vocal haters over time, especially once the game fully releases and the franchise expands to challenge and break-up TPCi/Gamefreak/Nintendo's monopoly, spurring competition and vast improvements for both series, this I agree is needed, and fans (or stans) of Pokemon need to realize this.

Pokemon did have an open world in pokemon arceus with crafting and they had the old gamecube pokemon games that shook up the formula. They just went unchallenged for too long and stop trying.

@damiandastych4937 And Legends Arceus was absolutely terrible and literally can only be called good if the only games you've ever played are modern Pokemon games. It was an inferior, cheap, boring knockoff of a better game already on the Switch: Breath of the Wild, and they really did the bare minimum in that game. Not to mention, the shitty, game-breaking, mandatory always-on Exp. Share they still won't fucking get rid of ever since forcing it onto players since moving to the Switch. That forced shared experience is legitimately one of the worst things about modern Pokemon games and completely breaks an already easy game that never required actual grinding, into mind-numbingly stupid levels.

@@MarvinPowell1 Yeah. I agree with the experience all nonsense. I remember when it was an option you could turn on but it lowered how much each pokemon got overall. More useful to help bring lower leveled pokemon up or to get your crappy Magikarp to 20 to evolve. Now I can just steamroll the game with my starter even harder than before and just switch in my niche backups or other favorites. It's so boring.... I want challenge again.

Hopefully this does force Nintendo to step up and innovate instead of rehashing like they have done for the last 20 years. They can still have all their staple elements like gyms and the league but there needs to be a narrative, side stories, an open world, it just needs more.

I got really distracted and started building a factory. Then decided to breed Anubis for distillation. I have 70 hours in scarlet. And haven't touched it in awhile.

Yeah, because of the body type option while hypocritically sexing the creatures to be male or female. People are fine with picking the male character or the female character, even if there is no people breeding mechanic. Do not expect the full game to fix the option.

Let's see... to get the FULL Gen9 experience, you need both versions, which is 120 bucks, plus the DLC, which you need for each version, which is 60 bucks. Meanwhile Plaworld is 30 bucks, or 1/6th the price. Clearly, this means gen 10 will be 70 bucks based version, and the DLC will be 50 each

If your computer can handle it, mod the game to have 6-8x the pal spawns. The game feels significantly more alive. You have packs of Pals wandering around, and they will randomly break out into fights. So instead of them just wandering around waiting for you to do stuff for interaction. It feels significantly more alive.

Pokemon had it coming for a while now. Most of that hostility come from disfranchised pokemon fan who saw their lovely IP fall into mediocrity. They don't actually hate pokemon, they just want them to do better. It's tough love in action. Gamefreak has been lazy for a while and was overdue for this kind of kick in the butt.

Adding to the above, the Pokémon diehards opened the hostilities first, since around X & Y even. Every time Pokémon got pushback for regressing their game design, willfully taking away quality of life features, or outright lying about the accessibility of Pokémon from past games, they would would get mocked and dogpiled en masse for daring to talk bad about their precious billion-dollar franchise, with the “discourse” being the most obnoxious during the Dexit and DLC era of Sword and Shield’s time in the limelight.

In the past couple years Indie games have been dominating the market, not in terms of sales but certainly in popularity of the public that isnt just sucked completely into CoD, LoL or Pokemon, games like this need to be more often instead of few and far between, loving these gems of Vampire survivors, Balders Gate 3, and Palworld

Pal world is honstly how they should have done archeus. Obviously not with you killing them with guns but the overworld feeling, the scale, the building your own settlement, and so on. Honestly, that is a pokemon game that I would have dropped the 60 on instantly. Archeus got halfway there, but Pal World is obviously the better game. Pokemon tried to innovate for the first time since colosium, and even that felt half assed.

I did like Tem Tem. Solid game, just didn't get a lot of hype. This time half the internet is whipped into a frenzy over not a direct competitor but rather a blend of Pokemon and Ark. Palworld even in its unfinished state looks better and feels more polished than Game Freaks last rushed out money grab. It's actually saddening with what Game Freak got away for years now and I hope all that backlash will finally force them to do better.

@@tofu666 I played some of the Pokemon games and never understood the hype. I played special yellow, the gb game where you get a pikachu. Emerald Green on the GBA... One of the DS games, maybe diamond... they're just so incredibly simple. Each Pokemon can only learn 4 moves at any time, combat is slow and the story is very generic. Catch pokemon, do gyms and sometimes villains do heinous stuff. Final Fantasy has always been a deeper and more varied rpg with way better progression, tactics and storyline. Also releasing two games at the same time despite being the same game with minor differences... I just don't know of any other game that can do that.

Thats pretty typical. Lots of people don't understand the distinction. Either way, there is a clear effort to suddenly advertise Pokemon in a manner they normally never do. So regardless of whether it's Nintendo or Gamefreak, it makes the same statement to the common public. "They're sweating over it." Rn it feels more like public mockery than actual hate. There's mob mentality against Palworld, too. It's going to happen for things like this. People like drama and picking perceived sides.

Usually its just some full AAA price, low effort copy of previous low effort game. Now that palworld gives nintendo some competition, there is good chance they get their gears shifted and something of value comes out to compete with palworld, specially since nintendo knows if they take palworld into the court, they are unable to win running the court costs until opponent runs out of money. They know if they did this, they would be the ones running out of money since people love this and giats like nintendo need to get wakeup call time to time. Arceus was what I waited for and I thought Scarlet and Violet would improve upon it instead they took 2 steps back and didn't bother to finish quality testing the games. Gen 9 has left a horrible taste in my mouth that I can’t blindly love them as a company any more. This is from someone who collected over 10k cards and bought 100s of thousands of TCG products.

We're currently at 1025 pokemon, not including form changes. I'm hoping that Palworld manages to scare The Pokemon Company enough to actually give pokemon games time to be polished. Maybe even let another company work on them since Gamefreak is obviously out of their depth making home console games instead of handheld games.

I had been saying they should do Staggered development cycles to give their games proper time to bake. each game takes around 4-5 years to make but staggered so one comes out every 2-3 years due to 2 teams working on them. This includes remakes

@randomsongsinlocrian Temtem's demographic was a subgroup of Pokemon fans that wanted a focus on double battles (aka competitive format) without RNG and other problems. Their problem was that they made the entire game focused on a small demographic instead of going for a bigger one (like Palworld did) and then having options for them. The game itself was decent, but it was the same old Pokemon formula everyone is tired of!

Played palworld the first time last night and had a hard time putting it down just to sleep. You dont only improve your pals but you improve yourself and your base. And your pals really help you out either in the wild or in base. I cant say the same for pokemon scarlet/violet when i first started it.. had a hard time trying to finish the game, havent still, and havent bought the expansion.. playing the same formula every gen kinda eventually gets to you and palworld was a breath of fresh air. There might be some similarities in design but when you play it, the differences are really glaring

I would argue that pokemon already has them work and be eaten. I'm pretty sure I've seen some Magikarp dishes and the whole plot line of people eating Slowpoke's tail in the show. And the pokemon do work. Chancey works as a nurse aid and I've seen some of the strong ones doing construction. Sometimes in the games you see this too.

Legends: Arceus literally has aggressive Pokemon trying to kill you on sight before you enter battle, Pokedex entries have always included very dark and brutal descriptions of Pokemon behaviors, and even in a peaceful game like Pokemon Snap you can literally watch a Staraptor swoop down and grab a Magikarp out of the water with its talons to eat later or a Finneon be snatched out of the water and watch its limp body go flapping by. But it's not literal military weapons and slave labor, so not edgy enough I guess

Just redo the mechanics from Legends: Arceus where you fight the bigger mons by throwing the bags at them and give the player a crossbow that fires explosive shots that deal type damage or cause status effects while your pokemon are also weakening it so you can catch it.

I've seen people try to make their own games only to quit because they were constantly being compared to another game being made by someone people hated. So they bring that attitude to someone not having anything to do with the hated person and drags them down. Also, when you enjoy something but have to prop it up by bringing something else down, it probably wasn't that good and you deluded yourself.

Pokémon Ranger has a cool concept. Legends: Arceus would have been close to that. My favorite by design would be Hikari no Kiseki, and that art style should be reused, even outside of Pokémon.

The concept of Pokemon simply has too much potential that its current devs simply don't have the time/talent to turn into a reality. Pokemon Ranger in particular expanded the world building of Pokemon by showing the Rangers were more than just an opponent type npc and do things differently than the usual trainers

Don't bet on it. It's been proven that every claim of model theft so far was falsified, and the game's development predates generative AI tools. Not to mention, almost every other pokemon competitor this gen is on Switch. Also, fun fact: Pokémon ISNT a first party nintendo IP. They probably are looking at the sales and are wondering if they can get a cut.

If they are not changed models, they were likely brought to the side as they created the models themselves. Which, without the proper amount of originality, is still dubious for some of them, but the majority of them are fine.

Basically Nintendo is a company that has remained unchallenged for so long now that they have never had to struggle so hard. With Palworld pushing for the top Nintendo went from of course it is just a phase to holly crap what are we going to do. Hopefully they can do better and prove they belong at the top otherwise it might be the end at least of its top spot.
