When I was a kid my grandpa bought me one of these for Christmas (Circa 2009) from a grocery store. This little bootleg console was one of the first ways that I had experienced a lot of retro NES games. A friend and I even managed to beat Contra with these terrible controllers. I sadly have genuine nostalgia for this exact unit 😂

Let me just say this.... If I saw this "all in one" system with two controllers, one of which looks like an N64 controller, one Genesis controller AND it also comes with a gun.... when I was a kid in the late 90s... it literally wouldn't even matter what games that it had. This would be the greatest thing I'd ever seen.

I still own the Super Joy. I love it because it plays actual famicom cartridges

I bought one for my kids as a travel system. We already had a couple PlayStations and a Game Cube. Not wanting to damage those, we bought this to use in hotel rooms. It was a serviceable alternative to the pay per hours games offered at hotels at the time.

As much as I do hate this thing, I have to be pedantic. 1942 always starts you on "Last 32 Stage"; it counts down from 32 to tell you how many stages are left, not what stage you're on. So it is running correctly here.

I remembering buying one of these at a random kiosk at a mall when I was teenager out of pure curiosity since by that time I was already well into my Playstation years (Atari 2600 and NES was my life as a kid lol) Played it once. 15 years later, I found it in storage and gave it to my cousin who has since become quite the video game collector so at least it went to a good home.

Man I used to have this exact thing, I remember the box and everything. Mine was red, but came with the silver gun.

That buzz is the 60hz from the mains, common on crap electronics with poor shielding/grounding/filtering. Adds to the crappy charm!

I remember I got this for Christmas one year. When I opened it I thought it might play n64 games. When I hooked it up I was disappointed to see that it didn’t. None the less I still had a lot of fun with it this was actually the first way I ever played super Mario bros. I played it nearly every day for a month then out of nowhere it stopped turning on. This was back in 2012 and I have no idea where it is now so it was nice to see you make a video on it!

I had one similar to this called power-joy it had the gun built-in to the main controller and it came with a 84 in 1 game cartridge with a weird panda Mario game they were sold at the mall sometime in the mid 00s for around $30

I used to love this thing when I was a little kid. I remember begging for it at the SI Mall.

One of my favorite titles was Golf EER. Also, I love how you basically said, "I'm sorry if you went through that trauma, but if you have, please say more."

And there were more models to this Shockingly. You had this version (made in 2001) The original one (which said 76 in 1. And had music in the background) You had the final one which was slightly improved with the cartridge and had no letters next to the title. And some came with PAC-MAN and some came with mappy with a Nuts sprite (from nuts and milk) in the place. So me living in NYC this was everywhere and only $20 on 14th Street. And it was like hoping for PAC man or not. I owe it to this console it helped get me through my parents divorcing as a child. Great video btw

Me and my cousins shared this console as kids and quickly realized what it was. However, it gave me an opportunity to experience a lot of these older titles that I had never seen as a kid and developed a fondness for them. Now as an adult I collect for the NES. Without the Super Joy I might never had experienced some really great games. Thank you for finally talking about the Super Joy 3!

Also Walgreens sold something like this back in 2009 called Senario 101 in 1 for $9.99! there's other versions with fake games but this one had the real nes games they were pulled quickly from the shelves once Walgreens found out they were bootleg

Thanks for actually showing the Famicom slot in use. I had a very similar Famiclone system as a kid which they sold through local catalogues but instead of a second MegaDrive style controller mine had its own unique shape whereas the N64 style main controller lacked the fake analogue stick and had a silver colour. Also the C buttons were in their actual position. The games were basically taken from the black box series i.E. Pinball and some lesser known ones like Battle City.

Glad to see a video on this. While I never bought it, I distinctly remember seeing these all over the mall near me for a solid time. So it's always what I imagine first when someone says "Bootleg Console"

I remember back over 10 years ago these being sold in little stands in the mall. Then they moved onto the Flea Market, and finally I would find them in various states of repair/completeness at the local thrift stores. Thanks for the awesome coverage of an item I remember well.

I remember walking in Bryant Park's pop up shops in NY years ago and seeing kiosks running these freely like nothing was wrong. I always wanted to buy one but never got around to it.

An italian youtuber called "the phantom castle" made a video on this console too. They actually broadcasted a telemarket advertisement for it all they time in Italy during the 90s

I remember seeing this as a kid, it's like exactly the same one my great grandma had for her house whenever I visited.

My parents bought me a Super Joy III set back in 2003 or 2004 (because I had obviously saw it in the mall at a pop up kiosk) and when I opened it on Christmas morning I was the happiest kid ever and I loved playing it!! At the time I didn't know they were NES games but I had only just realized it into my teen years that they were LOL. This thing brought me hours of fun! My parents had also bought my oldest sister a soccer game and my younger sister a knock off DDR pad (that had licenced 16 bit music on it lmao) all from the same kiosk that was in the mall. Seeing this video brings me back SOOO many good memories I still have my Super Joy III set today and it still works just like it did back in 2003/2004.

My mother got me one of these around 2002 from QVC. It caught fire.

So I've researched these extensively from buying many. A number of them can be moded to support expansion audio for vrc6 and other chips. A smaller percent have correct audio in Mario and the like, where the duty cycles aren't swapped. But I haven't found any with both.

7:16 : Not to mention that, for whatever reasons, the battery pack is too small for the batteries. I remember having a tough time removing the battery pack AFTER trying to boot the console on battery.

I had one of these and if you scroll far enough you get some crazy romhacks. I played some version of super Mario Bros where Bowser was flying through the screen and you were swimming but you were on land, it was super crazy.

my parents owned a gift shop when i was a pre-teen and they brought this home for me to play. they sold it in their shop. i was really into games (obviously still am) so i just played anything. i was very aware of how bootleg it was and got my retro gaming fix through roms and emulators on pc, but still played it every now and then. it must still exist somewhere in my parents house

My parents saw a guy selling these at a fairground once. There was a guy who saw that it had Burger Time, and he freaked out yelling something like "IT HAS BURGER TIME! I NEED IT!" and bought one. My parents bought two of them just because. It was how I played Wild Gunman for the first time. Be glad you didn't try to use the battery cartridge, my brother tried to use it and it got so hot the plastic melted off

I bought one of these from a local flee market about 12 years ago. Didnt care much for the preloaded games, but I loved playing all my famicom games on it!

My grandparents got me this one on that same color, funny enough this is how I first got to play Duck Hunt, I did have some fun with it until I got a Wii.

I had one of these as a kid. Pretty sure this and the Sonic Mega Collection introduced me to retro games.

Retez showed a version of this missing the player 2 and light gun but had a working joystick. The atari port was on the cut off middle grip. The shopping channel Canada model had the av cables built in and the famicom slot not put on the board.

It came with a flash gun and you "don't have the patience to break out the CRT" to fully use it's features. I had one, it was red and the gun was black with brown grips. I played Wild Gunman all the time, and loved it. Our small CRT TV was actually placed at chest height normally, so it worked out quite well for me when playing it.

That's take me back when Romeo my cousin had that in the 8th Grade at Davis Middle School in Bessemer, Alabama and AJ had that too when he started Kindergarten at Elementary School in Bessemer, Alabama during the 2005-2006 season. While I had Extra Controllers for the GameCube, Memory Card, True Crime NYC, didn't had DOR 2 until Early February 2006.

I remember seeing this one of these bootleg consoles at my local mall when I was a kid. Heck, I remember playing Super Mario Bros for the first time on this console at said mall.

YO I HAD THIS AS A KID AND I LOVED IT SO MUCH mine was only the n64 controller, there was no second controller nor lightgun, it had no cartridge slot either nor a battery pack

As a teen, there was a "3Stars" shop at an outdoor shopping mall in the neighbourhood I lived in at the time, that sold cheap and off-brand household products, and right at the (wide) entrance, on the opposite end to the cashier counter, there sat a few Power Player boxes, and one set up and connected to a small 14" CRT TV. At the time, I didn't realise it was a knockoff of the Nintendo 64 and Mega Drive controllers, as I hadn't yet seen photos of what an actual N64 looked like. I also didn't realise that the weird slot was a Famicom game cartridge slot, likely only designed with bootleg cartridges in mind, and I was a very different person back then, to the point where NES game graphics in some games used to creep me out.

3:02 : You don't need to hide it. I did get a PPSJIII in a flea market a couple of years ago, back when I had no idea how Illegal these bootlegs where.

I remember several kiosks in the mall had these as well as several variations on the housing. Some attempted to look like real consoles. Each kiosk had different ones. I remember going to each kiosk looking for the one with the most games. If I only knew then what I knew as soon as I turned it on and started scrolling lol.

I had this thing when I was younger because it had so many old unlicensed classic games on it . I played it like a regular console so much the wire would make the controller start to smell like burning plastic ( I can still remember the distinct smell just by looking at the controller and the ports ) I had to replace it with a couple different AC adapter wires but the console would usually end up burning because it had no builtin fan

It's so cool to see you review this! I bought the same exact Power Player at a Goodwill a few years back (except mine has black controllers) and I have another Power Player whose main controllers were a ripoff of the Sega Dreamcast and a sort of Super Nintendo-esque controller with standard controller grips. The Dreamcast one seems to be an older model judging by the box design and the fact it advertises 128-in-1 games rather than 76,000 (even though I'm pretty sure it most likely contains the same games. I never tested out the Dreamcast model due to the power supply box being partially cracked open and I don't wanna take any chances. This N64 Power Player though, I've just been lazy to test out, but after watching the video, I feel a bit inspired to take some time and plug everything in and check the console out for myself.

One cool fact about this thing is it can be powered by batteries! It has a little holster in the expansion pak slot where you can insert AA batteries to power the device. If you have some sort of external display it makes for a decent way to test games on the go. Great for scalping enthusiasts on the run lol.
