His baritone saxist, Charlie Bubeck, was one of the best.

Before my time but I love this. I truly appreciate this music/generation. Ozzie was so handsome. Lovely family. I sure am glad you found this and shared it.

Before my time too, but I love this stuff. His son Ricky's songs were from my time and I love those songs too. Thank you so much for watching this one! Jim

I loved their show...those were the good days. I was a kid but I sure enjoyed the show. Wish we had shows on today like that one. We can't live forever but this music will. I was heartbroken to hear of Ricky's passing...and the family over time. We watched these shows and felt like they were family/friends we knew. *Genie* Thank you Jim

Great version of "Begin the Beguine". This orchestra had a really driving rhythm section.

1:55 - Watch the second sax player from the left switch from alto to baritone. That's Charlie Bubeck, one of the best jazz baritone sax players of the pre-bop era. He solos frequently on Nelson records from the mid-late 30s, but sadly gets overshadowed in this clip by the tenor player to the right of him, without the opportunity for an up-close solo feature.

The whole Nelson clan is too little appreciated these days. Oz had a very versitle band and his sense of humor often surfaced in their music long before The Adventures of O&H. Thanks for this vid - Ozzie lives!

So glad you enjoyed it, Heather! I stumbled upon this on a recent DVD that I purchased. It was one of those extra "added attractions" on the disc. I thought it was cool so I posted it. "The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet" show was a ritual in our family and we just loved it. Thank you so much for watching, my Friend! Jim

LOVE this, Jim!! Love both of these songs! Ozzie was quite the entertainer--love watching him conduct! I grew up with reruns of his show, too, and love the whole family. Thanks so much for sharing this treasure! You made my day :))

The saxophonist in Old Bonnet sounds like Tex Beneke on steroids....

I wonder if Ozzie, in real life, was anything like his befuddled character on TV. That sure was a great program....rarely miss it.

Question; why are they playing so weirdly FAST? a lot of neighbors bands did this material but why the frantic pace?

This was what was called a "soundie" .... short films made to play on special video jukeboxes in the 40's. It was an interesting idea that never really caught on in huge way. I don't believe they really had names so much as they would just be labeled with the artist's name and song. They captured some great music on them ... sort of like MTV vids of the time.

Above average big band the only thing that irks me is the same same four four time pounding old time four beats per bar

I don't know how he became a conductor; his baton seems to have no relation the to the music's actual tempo.
