I always felt this song was about how Courtney Love was acting one way in public, but backstage was acting completely different. She would constantly try to offer advice, say what to do, and manipulate Kurt into being something he didn't want to be. He wanted out, but always backed down, because he could never go through with that. That's shown, and explained by the line "Hey wait! I got a new complaint", which shows he tried, but because she was so manipulative, he kept backing down, and that's shown with the line that followed, which is "forever in debt to your priceless advice". she changed that even more, because she got pregnant, and because even though Kurt had a dark side, he loved his daughter, and tried to change for her. So when she told him she was pregnant, probably during a fight where Kurt was going to leave, she threw down her "Umbilical noose", which refers to Courtney being pregnant, and used that to drag him back in to their toxic hell of a relationship... With that news, which would rattle most, he would "climbe right back".

I would have loved to have met Kurt Cobain not only was he beautiful looking he seemed to have such a frailty, innocence and shattered soul and those things in themselves whilst they cost him his life they were beautiful.

If you go on this, the next lines "forever in debt to your priceless advice" could maybe be about all the "advice" that was given (forced) on the band to make a more radio-friendly sort of record, which was a very common problem for them. Or it could all just mean nothing.

Because apparently, the lyrics to most nirvana songs seem to be subjective. I wonder if that was part of the draw to them? You could listen to the songs almost abstractivly and the words moulded into what you needed them to be as it applied to your world at the time....or maybe we were just all really, really, high.

You know growing up, I was more into Hard Rock, Metal, and as rock music transitioned into Grundge, I listened but didn’t give it too much attention in the 90s. As an adult, really reading the words in his lyrics and understanding the meanings obvious and hidden, I really and truly get touched on the inside. The man is literally pouring pain from pen to pad, and it really showcases the dark side of human emotion for everyone to hear. No wonder this man touched so many ppl, cuz they related. This is SO visceral, and is true art. It’s sad he did not find the healing he needed in life only to find relief in death. RIP Kurt Cobain

I been here since 1993 when In Utero came out. I was 16-17 yrs old. I never heard Nirvana before Nevermind was released and I wasnt that impresssed at first but I admired their onstage performances especially 1993 MTV VMA show. Now when In Utero came out that hit me. It was raw and hard and I could really relate to the lyrics and anger especially Scentless Apprentice but as a whole it is a great album. Almost thirty years later Nirvana has a timeless sound. Rock and Roll will never die. As long ad kids jam in their garages it is still alive whether or not it is on Billboard charts.

Kurts birthday is 4 days before mine, yet I look more forward to his then mine.

Im not a fan but i dont hate Nirvana. Nirvana was one of those bands you can not deny their impact in music.

I always thought he said "I got a real Cobain" and interpreted it as he can be real this time, unlike every time in the past, and underneath the facade he's put up until now, he actually feels grateful for the advice he received, even if he was unable to follow it.
