I'm the owner of 2013 altima 151k miles done and cvt is smooth as new , people who are complaining about cvt failure I advise them learn how to drive cvt transmission car , its not like normal gear, 1 Never launch ur car 2 apply progressive brakes 3 accelerate gradually and try to not exceed rpm up to 2500 4 use cvt fluid nissan NS 3 only 5 monitor spark plugs condition 6 never b hurried to shifting While the vehicle is still moving and not stopped completely don't shift the gear . When u reversing then make sure car is completely stopped then shift to D . These are main points u have to follow everytime u drive, then trust me Nissan is not sucks actually we r not handling the way we should b. If anybody have more points to follow pla reply comment and educate me thanks

I agree with what you listed but still! If you check out Nissanclub website they’re a sticky forum where people were posting when there transmissions failed. My first one failed at 8k and then at 41k. My buddies 2016 Altima 2.5 failed at 45k and he babied that car. My aunt had a rouge that had its trans replaced three times and she drove all highway. I love Nissan and my old atlima with a four speed auto was excellent. These new ones are just ehhhh

Driving below 2500 rpm is crazy 🤪 the engine likes to rev and it revs up pretty quickly imo, just gradually accelerate

Also, added a B&M external transmission cooler to the transmission cooler lines at 80,000 miles. Got 372,712 miles of smooth sailing. No studder/judder cvt codes or any delay shifting. Changed transmission fluid every 80,000 miles as I like to get the full life out of my fluids. 50,000 and 30,000 miles is waay too soon to change that cvt tranny oil. The oil can last much longer than that.

I have a 2012 and 2015 Altima, both 4 cylinders. So far, I haven’t had any major problems and all I do mostly is just annual oil change on Mobil1 EP and recently did first CVT fluid drain-and-fill at 88K and 98K miles on both cars, respectively. Scotty Kilmer needs to see this video so he can shut up about telling the world Nissans are crap especially it’s JATCO CVTs!

One thing to consider too, is that if you're mostly highway driving, you may get 150k+ out of your CVT. In town driving and abusing them is what kills them (and not changing the fluid). So if you commute a lot on the highway then it might be OK and you may get a decent life out of your Nissan. It's stop and go traffic that's harsh on a car in general (not just the trans, but the engine too). This is why mechanics will say that a car with 100,000 highway miles is like 10% of city driving because highway miles are far easier on a car (driving at a constant or relatively constant speed) than stop-and-go city traffic.
@mkecarconnection3808
@mkecarconnection3808 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've heard that. I'd say I'm about 60% highway 40 city in terms of actual miles but I do idle alotttttttttttt. Car has Hotspot so I just chill inside with the engine running and I also do alot of stop and go.

I picked up a 2012 SL from my sister in Feb of 22. 128K miles for $6K. The car is in great shape and the first thing I did was change the tranny fluid (twice) and all of the filters on it. IF you change the tranny fluid regularly, and make sure the tranny temps don't get too high (install an aux cooler if necessary), then this is a very reliable car. You can't ignore maintenance. I got some minor hail damage on my after I bought and then my net price ended up being just over $2K, with some cosmetic damage - no big deal. For sure there are some very durable automatic trannies out there, but for all of these trannies, changing the fluid is actually easier than changing the oil, not sure why folks don't do it more often. Aftermarket fluid that meets spec is also not very expensive.

I just bought a 2014 2.5 SV. 166,000 MI. I got a good deal on it considering car prices are through the roof right now. By the look of it you would not know that it has almost 167,000 now. Transmission is as smooth as silk but I don't know if it has ever been changed out. I'm going to evacuate the fluid before long and replace it just to be on the safe side. Changed out the dim low-beam headlights and put high-powered LEDs and they are quite brighter. Added some refrigerant to the air conditioner. Put brand new tires on it. Detailed it up. It is black with black interior which I love. It's not leather and I'm glad for that too.

Mine is a 2013 Altima SV. It's taken a beating as well, with me using it to do Uber in NYC. It's held up for the most part with many repairs along the way. Mostly normal wear & tear from everyday driving. I recently just got to 200K. Soon as I got to 200K I started sensing the beginning stages of the CVT starting to fail, because it's giving me a 3-5 second delay when shifting into drive. So I'm not sure how much life this Transmission has left. Once that Transmission goes I'm NOT replacing it. Rather just get a new vehicle. And I've done my synthetic oil changes every 6K and my Transmission Fluid changes every 50K. Only using Premium Gas since day 1. I'm the sole owner of this vehicle. Hence that is why I was able to get over 200K out of this Nissan CVT and still going...

I’m currently sitting at 192k. I made the video thinking I’d be getting rid of it soon but after thinking hard I decided to keep it until she dies. Even if I get a new car in the coming months I can use this to DoorDash on the side. But In the last two weeks I’ve noticed a slight jerk when slowing down from 15-5mph somewhere in that range. Last time I replaced the fluid was at 157k so I’m going to swap it again and hope that goes away. Other than that she’s still solid. Synthetic oil still comes out clean. No leaks of any fluids. Just did the tie rods again thinking it would stop a vibration I’m feeling but it didn’t so now time to poke around more.

I own a 2017 Nissan Altima the same color as yours. Storm blue. I put 24k a yr on it back and forth to work. It's a great car, comfortable, great on fuel & I've had no issues, but like many here I have seen all the horror stories about the CVTs. I change my CTV fluid right with my oil every 10 or 15k. I use top-notch Amzoil products, but the worry over the CVT now that it's starting to creep up with miles at 47k now is eating at me. The car is paid for, but I don't want to incur a 5k repair bill. I can afford it, but why put that on yourself. I'm looking for a Toyota Camry to trade mine in for because with used car prices going up, mine actually low books about 16k. It's still hard though. Finding good deals in this inflated car market is tough. A good 18 or 19 Camery will set you back about 25k and 23k if you find a very good deal.

A guy I work with has had very good success with Nissan cvts. His first was a 2009 Altima that had 300,000 kms when it was T-boned by a girl with no license. His second Altima was a 2012 with 330,000 kms. He traded it in for a 2015 murano as he needed something bigger for his family. Because he lives close to work it only has 70,000 kms or so. I would seriously consider a Nissan since I do all highway driving and I never rush to work and am obsessed with doing the maintenance.

Hey MKE, watched the video and thought it was good. Though of course Nissan always has a bad rep with the transmission. But I heard that if you were to install a performance transmission fluid cooler that it would prevent that. Any testimonials on if that’s true? For the trans fluid, you are better off erring on the side of 30k. CVTs (pretty much all of them ,regardless of brand) need to have the fluid changed every 50k or less (or about 4 years) to maximize life. The other thing is you cannot beat on CVTs or they will go out. They are not built like a geared automatic/manual transmission which can usually take more abuse. Fast acceleration is one thing, although not recommended with a CVT over the long run, but trying to do things like burn-outs will destroy your transmission pretty quick (in many cars, but with CVTs especially, they are built for economy and not performance/racing as they cannot handle the torque and strain as a normal transmission). The CVT in NIssans (especially from the 2012-2016 era, in the Versas especially) are what scares me the most about Nissan. I think they have sharp cars (more luxurious than Toyota) but I still think Toyota wins in the reliability. Even though Toyota has been doing CVTs for about as long as Nissan, Toyota only uses it in perhaps a few of their vehicles (mainly hybrids) and the Corolla (even today, in 2022). many of their newer cars still use geared automatics, even though Toyota's CVTs have proven to be very reliable (in cars like the Pirus and now the Corolla -- since 2014). But Toyota is taking it easy and not joining the bandwagon like most and putting CVTs in everything and I think this is partially why Toyota has won out in long term reliabilty--they might be bland cars, but they focus on the long-term reliability and their reputation has shown it. Nissan, unfortunately, has a checkered reliability in the past (with the Versas getting a pretty bad reputation). I mean I read an article somewhere by Consumer Repoprts I think that did a study on the Versas from about 2012 to 2016 and found that the average Versa's transmission had an average life epxectancy if around 72k miles, right out side of powertrain warranty. And those were not cheap to replace with $2,500 being the low end perhaps for a rebuild, to about $3500 or $4000 for a new transmission installed. So ever since reading that, I never considered Nissans. The newer ones (like 2015+) may be fine, but from the people I Know who had NIssans never really got that much life out of them (one person I know had a 2012 Altima. Trans went out on it at 120k and he sold it and bought a Lexus instead). He got 10 years out of it, but even he said the trans should have lasted more than 120k (and this was an older gentleman, like in his 60's, so not a crazy driver, but a normal older adult driver). He did buy it used at 30k and 2.6 years old, so he had it for a while, but still, 120k is nothing even for a 2012. He didn't want to spend the $4000 on a $10,000 car basically so it was traded in.

Yeah Ik. I beat on my altima and do alot of hard acceleration but you can easily tell the cvt doesn't react like a regular auto. Can't really get the wheels to even chirp off tte line. From like 0-10 it's like eh then the power comes on and it takes off

The trans is eh after consistent 20-30k fluid changes versus the 60k the owners manual says. I also drive the car normal for the most part. 80% of the miles on it are highway miles cruising at 70mph. No strain on her at all! Suspension has held up wonderfully, brakes too. Honestly the whole car has held up without fuss. Only the trans now is acting a little questionable
