Not only was this video stress relieving, it was also very educational as im preparing to rebuild a z24 myself. although i'm sure my work isn't going to be quite as nice 😅

Great video thanks, I recently bought a 86.5 d21 w 60k miles and it is beacause of folks like you that i have it back on the street. I did my timing chain and guides and im pretty sure i put the tensioner foot in upside down now that i watched this, I duno thats going to keep me up tonight ha.

Oh no! Now I'm wondering it if was me that actually put in on upside down lol. Glad to hear your D21 is back on the road, I really miss mine ever since the frame broke by the front lower control arm 2 years ago, but now that I have that clapped 88 D21 I have a solid frame to frame swap my truck with!

@@HardAngle I checked we both did it right. When i got the truck it ran and someone had it 180 out and forced the dist. on upside down just a bit crooked to line up those holes. It took me hours to figure that one out. In the pan was all the metal from guides and chunks. IT RAN. engine is really scarry and hard to find real mechanic info on more detalied than chilton from 80s but it seems to be a tuff nut. Thanks for answer and looking foward to more videos of a real person doing work im putting off.

Thank you! Definitely sufficient for the level of work this engine is going to see (not much) probably could have gotten closer to a 45 degree cross hatch if I would have used a dingleberry hone so I could move up and down without worrying about the stones popping out of the bore.

Not to many people rebuild those certain carbs good stuff man I own a 86 d21 i just sent my carb to get rebuilt because she was running a little too rough already for me and i didn’t pass smog new cat egr and egr vacuum modulator it should pass now if not im burning it😅

Nice, How many hours would you say you spent on this rebuild?

I would estimate 60 - 80 hours most likely, I didn't keep super careful track of the hours as I was tinkering around and trying to make sure everything was perfect rather than being efficient with my time.

Hey good video. Iʻm putting together one that someone else started and left. I noticed you put the oil filter straight on the block. Is there no bracket needed? A manual I referenced showed a bracket hence the 4 holes. Thanks

I think some later versions of the Z24i had that bracket like most modern engines, or maybe this engine was just missing the bracket, either way this engine did not have an oil filter sandwich plate installed in the block when I took the engine out of the truck and the oil pressure guage was located in a different spot, so I'm guessing this engine just never had that plate and the oil filter always went right on the block.

@@billkea7224 Yes, I usually dilute 10 to 1 with water, the high temp puts in a lot of work.

I like to use a dab of black rtv on those rear main sideseals bc sometime they just leak oil after break in

So I have a question for you I have a 85 Nissan 720 z24 rebuilt engine been running good for about 6 months now into the other day it started skipping and popping pulled into driveway it act like it wanted to clear up and run again but it didn't I checked my coils they are good check my plug wires they are good also check my plugs cylinder 3 and 4 Had bent spark plugs and yes I have the correct spark plugs in it was just driving along and it started doing it Motor still runs don't hear any Knocks no smoke coming out of tailpipe do you think the rod bearing could have worn down for some reason please help this is my daily driver really love this truck its has been nothing but good to me 😊 hope to hear back from you soon

What pistons are these? Stock replacement? Can you tell me what the rebuild kit brand is or did you source thr parts individually?

All the parts I used in this video were from a kit made by DNJ Engine Components. I've built quite a few engines using their parts and they seem to be of very good quality in the affordable stock replacement area. I order the engine parts from partsology.com

Did you use a Manual of some sort i have an 86 Nissan 720 king cab its also surprisingly automatic transmission i cant find anything about it anywhere

For the most part I just watched how it came apart to know how to reassemble but for any torque specs or valve lash specs etc. I used a haynes manual and the internet.

Yes, for the rebuild of the long block I did, I believe I got them from partsology.com and the rest of the big parts like the alternator or the throttle body rebuild parts I got on rockauto

What chemicals/products u use for clean aluminum, please-

I soak them in simple green heated to around 180 degrees, then I spray them with a power washer to clean off the cleaner and dry them with compressed air. Be careful as simple green "can" dissolve or discolor aluminum when doing this but so far I have only ever discolored (darkened) an aluminum engine block.

I could've sworn the z24 in my 1985 720 engine had a double roller timing chain, I thought the single roller came out with the KA24. Was this a 1988 engine?

I thought about doing that with this one and decided not too since there is always a slight generator hum in the background but next time I think I'm just going to leave the raw sound in anyway, it is much cooler.

not z24i. z24i is 3 valve. this is z24

The i in Z24i denotes the throttle body fuel injection vs the nornal z24 carburetor. All Z series 4 cylinders in any displacement were all 8 valves, the Z24 replacement (KA24E) was a 12 valve though which moved onto traditional fuel rail style port fuel injection.

The very last generation of that block was a 3 valve and then it went to k which was technically the same block after that generation of that block they quit using the same block for the k you can use the 8-valve and still have the fuel injection you can use any head you want but you don't have the i head I have a real I head I can send you a picture of just so you know you not missing out anything and you can you should use 4 spark plug instead of the eight trust me it's better

@@zackting622 I would have to ask the guy I built the engine for but I just checked the VIN plate on the truck cab which reads: Color (465), Trim (K) Engine (Z24I 2389cc) Axle (CA43) Trans (FS5W71C)

When it comes down to that type of research Nissan would quite literally change their truck 15 times in a year or less it's really hard to get the information that the truck actually came with. all I do is l20b d blocks and z blocks K blocks but like I said it doesn't matter the Z24 head is the best following I don't mean to come off rude or anything or as a know-it-all this is all I do good job by the way

Здравствуйте🤝 Мне капиталили двигатель на ниссан террано1(z24i)моновпрыск. Он незаводился после ремонта...(я перевернул трамблёр на 180°)и он заработал... Так вот,я хочу попросить того кто делал что бы метки грм правильно поставил что бы трамблёр правильно стоял...потому что провода в натяг после того как я перевернул...
