Wouldn’t having a visible red LED when switching modes (for the IR) completely defeat the purpose of having an IR mode? Assuming that you’re using IR to not be seen by other people that don’t have night vision?

I mean over all the item is self defeating. If anyone needs to be tactical enough to use IR chances are an enemy is going to have night vision too. I'm assuming these are for practice drills but have minimal field applications for live fire situations. Mainly these are cool for airsoft but would get someone killed in live fire. 🤷🏻♂️ just my thoughts.

I was recording on several different cameras. I used a Sony AX53 for the night vision shots.

can smartphone camera detect the IR light?

Yes, but to a point. It will not be as pronounced as a true IR camera would pick-up the IR light spectrum.

Do you know if the light can be turned on when it is plugged in and charging?

Yes you can charge it and use it while it is charging and or plugged into a power source like a batter bank or wall outlet. 😎👍🏼🔦
