After the nitro drill, I wanted to try and make similar projects with this kind of rc engines. Unfortunately, success didn't come fast because I had to remake the whole build 3 times. I started with a Cox 049 (0.8cc) airplane engine which is very delicate concerning the fuel mixture as it requires at least 15% pure castor oil. Modern fuel blends include a small percentage of this oil, with the rest being synthetic. This lead to its failure due to the overheating of the crankshaft, which rubbed against the crankcase walls naking it useless. The second engine I used was also for model airplanes, a O.S Max 10 RC (1.6cc) from the 70's. This one while it didn't need special fuel blends, it was really difficult to start, not because it was stubborn, but of the way I made the tool to start: by spinning the flywheel with my thumb. It was almost impossible to make it start like this. Only a few times the engine run, but for a few seconds. Then I thought I should use the kyosho gx-12 (2.1cc). It had a pull starter, which meant no more trouble with starting up the engine. It's also more modern than the previous two engines, so it was the absolute winner of the 3.

I'm new to Dremels, but this thing has been great. kzfaq.infoUgkxfPgcZ5_Cl0HDUKkMJAKde11YKQZVgMoR The variable speed is awesome and the cordless aspect makes it so easy to work with. I am constantly finding uses for it that make tasks easier. Recently I put in a new deadbolt on one of our doors. I knew I had to enlarge the hold where the deadbolt goes into the door frame. At first I thought I would have to get a big router and figure out how to use it for that, but then I rermembered we have the dremel. I was able to enlarge the hole almost as easy as if I was drawing with a pen. It's also great for grinding our dog's nails done and so many other household tasks.

Even a GX-15 motor only has about 0,35PS which translates to 0,25kW (250 Watts), and that is typically only for one specific RPM. Given a effectiveness of 50% it only produces 125W of mechanical power. A genuine Dremel has up to 175W. About actual torque i could not find any data.. BUT: If you need more power, just use an angle grinder or drillpress, depending on your needs. You cant use the product indoors for long due to exhaust gases, it is much louder than a dremel and it gets hot, which is dangerous. I dont want to say that this is a useless build or anything, as much as you also i like gasoline motors that power everyday items and i like building and machining stuff. I really like this video. But still that doesnt make a gas powered handtool more practical ;)

There's these stands for the angle grinder you can buy (or make, since they are pretty simple, after you see the form it can be made from a few angle irons and a plate) and if you have a beefier AG you can cheat and put slightly bigger cutter wheels on it. Cheapo tool to cut acurate-ish. Certainly better than hand working it.

Whoahaha, dude, that's COOL! I've been familiar with these tiny engines ever since the late '70s--didn't play with them for about a q.-cent. or so, then picked them back up about a 15 or so years ago, then haven't played with them for a few years; but it looks like it's time for me to get playing with them again, because seeing this is rekindling my interest! I have an engine with nothing hooked to it, and then a black U-control plane. My dad had a yellow u-string plane in the '70s but we never got it going back then and then stashed it away and we never found it again. And then I bought one of those comparitively giant friction-coupled electric starters, but sometimes it was still fun to try to start them by hand. I could rarely keep one of these engines tuned well long enough for it to stay running for longer than about a minute or two, so it's cool to see how you managed! Sorry two of your engines were hosed, though.
