NIU Battery BMS Replacement

Replacement of the BMS in a 60V 29ah battery from an NIU N1S / NQi Sport. The original BMS was faulty and the battery wouldn't charge. I ordered the BMS below, waited a month, and gave it it shot.

I'm not a trained professional (as should be obvious from watching the videos) and working with 60V of electricity can be dangerous, so if you attempt anything like this, please be careful.

Hello, Thanks for the video. I have two Niu 60B2 batteries. Both batteries blink 3 times when I press button on top. I check voltage of package, which is good (61V and 58V). At one battery the celles are not in balance anymore, I suspect a faulty cel. The other one is balanced nicely. Now I am searching internet for a new BMS, but the link in your description is not working anymore. You have any other suppliers? Als, does anyone know what signal the 3 small pins in the connector give to the charger and/or the scooter? Thx!

Hi, just search for "NIU BMS" on AliExpress.com and you will find a few for sale. You just need to find one that works with the voltage and amperage ratings of your battery. www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-niu-bms.html?spm=a2g0o.home.search.0

Hi, it's 彦阳BMS. The aftermarket BMS needs to have a BlueTooth module, and then it should connect.

I have 2 brand new NIU 60v 26a batteries that had been sitting for 8 months. 1 charges and the other does not. One shows 64v and the dead one shows 8v. How can I revive the dead battery so it charges again? Thank you

How did u know the BMS what's the problem? I bought a secondhand battery on internet, but when I got it seems not to be working, it does not charge. Do you have some advice for me?

I contacted the NIU help desk and described the symptoms: it wouldn't charge, but when I had it plugged into my NIU and plugged into the wall, the NIU would run. They told me that the BMS was faulty and would need to be replaced. Assuming that your issue is not the charger itself, try connecting it your NIU and plugging the charger into the port under the seat. If the NIU turns on and runs while it's plugged in, and then shuts off when you unplug the charger, you might have a BMS issue.

I got mine from Aliexpress. The vendors change all the time, so you just need to search their site and you’ll eventually find the right one.

The 3 black wires? As I explain in the video, they are the temperature sensor wires.

Hi, I did the same BMS swap as you, first it seems the company fixed the bolt hole issue, mine line up perfectly. But my question for you is did yours work in the bike afterward? I get a full reading, battery charges successfully, even runs the bike for a bit, then suddenly cuts out and battery % reads zero both via the bike and the Bluetooth sensor, despite each cell cluster reading adequate charge. Just curious if you had any issues in the bike like I am having..

Can I use one of these packs in a different scooter model by opening it up and using a different connector? Current scooter is a dual motor 60V, current battery is 67.2V. Could this battery be repurposed to work with a GX16-3 charger?

Theoretically you could use this battery with another scooter, but I am not an expert and have never tried this.

It’s a 29ah battery. The batteries in the NGT and GTS versions are 35ah.

A more useful reply: you can buy a new one from AliExpress or search your local secondhand websites (Craigslist, Gumtree, eBay, etc).

Hello My battery has been drained to zero. I charged up to 3.2 volts, maybe the diagnostic sheet will start the BMS Or I need to buy a new BMS Thank you very much for the answer.

Try disconnecting the BMS for a day and then reconnecting it. I have heard that this can solve the problem. If not, the one I used has the amp with the cell by cell charging information.

I got mine from Ali Express. There are many options, but you need to make sure you get the one that matches the voltage and AH rating of your battery.

Nice video , thx. Just thinking why BMS blocking or stops the charger to recharge batteries ? Is this because of software on chip or some fuse on this plate is broken ? Couse normally no one need to change BMS Plate only because of safety function! -I am wonder why NIU don’t tell on the true what to change on plate or how to reset BMS Function !? 😀🙋🏼‍♂️🍺 THIS wil cost maybe not more then 5$!

I'm glad you liked the video. I have no idea what the problem is with the BMS, but replacing it is a lot cheaper than replacing the battery. Obviously a $5 fix would be even better.

@@Gehtdichnichtsan583 You could try disconnecting the BMS, waiting a few minutes, and then plugging it back in. I heard once that this might work, but I have never tried it.
