Crazy how this popped up on my KZfaq I was terminated from this class in week 11 for attending my cousin's wake (Major told me to give him the details and said he'll lmk if i can go but didn't show up to work the next day for whatever reason. So I spoke with a Sergeant and told him that Major gave me permission to attend the wake [he didnt] and the Sergeant allowed me to go). It was a bad decision on my part but I dont believe I should have been terminated. Especially since people were caught with phones in the barracks after my termination and still graduated, and someone who was involved in a bar fight still managed to graduate. And now I wear hearing aids from the gun range at the academy (which was never reported because I was terminated a few days later (didnt know the hearing loss was permanent at the time). This academy changed my life. Lost my cousin, career and hearing

Most officers won't do cell exractions. That is done by the CRT team.
@hugodias18843 жыл бұрын
You say that because you don't work at NORTHERN STATE PRISON. We do cell extractions on a DAILY

@@TNT111007 That's what runners learn to do. Clenching your fists makes your body tense up, opening your hands helps you run faster. I learned that in track in high school. Anyone that's a trained runner runs with their hands open.
@kellyanderson76243 жыл бұрын
Runners (usually sprinters) also run on the balls of their feet. Non runners run flat footed which slows you down.

I'm sorry but that room to room looking for shooter stuff is a complete waste of academy time. As a CO 99% of the time the only time you handle a weapon is at the range. Otherwise, 90% of your time is spent in places where firearms are forbidden. The only time you'll be armed is on trips, towers, lobbies, and mobile patrol. As a supervisor you'll handle a weapon even less. Even if there's an active shooter situation we will be support staff at best. SOG might be used but not line staff. IMO the time is better spent learning how to take a proper count and to write a proper report. As a SGT I can't tell you how many flubbed counts I've gotten and how many reports I've gotten that were unreadable. Otherwise, the best advice I can give is never show weakness and the inmates are not your friends and do your job. Don't let anyone bully you into not doing your job and that includes fellow officers. And count your equipment ASAP. You have no idea how frustrating it is to get a phone call 20 minutes before shift change and being told that someone is missing a piece of equipment.

@DVJFan No. This is state DOC.
@Rockhound61655 жыл бұрын
@DVJFan I would guess all jails have the same policies. You're not going to carry a firearm inside the secure perimeter.

I definitely agree I wish they would had show us more on how to write reports and count but they focuses too much on trying to break the weak. I respect the Pt because we definitely need to be in shape.
@craigrusso92914 жыл бұрын
I agree all the stuff I watch 90% of what i seen in this video is not necessary. I started with the NJDOC 1985 made Sgt 97 and retired in 04 getting medically retired after a cell extraction .

Actually as a sgt you should know this training is vital to off duty life mostly for active shooter situations. any training is good training in law enforcement..these men and women are sworn law enforcement officers and while off duty should always be carrying a weapon.

I did this job for three years and do not recommend it to anyone. Inmates never bothered me. Fellow staff slept with inmates, snuck them in contraband, and helped them escape. Why are staff here using military-boot camp tactics? Corrections is not the military. Quitting that shit job was a happy day.

Do the people that quit think that inmates aren't going to yell at them in the prison? They have to know how to act in a stressful situation. There IS a method to the madness.

DOC instructors fronting like they're NJSP Academy instructors. NJSP Academy Sea Girt is an infinitely more demanding program. Ask me how I know.
@TNT1110073 жыл бұрын
I think that you forget, we are all on the same side. I have been through 2 academies, one for state corrections and one for municipal police. Each was more demanding than the other in their own ways. They aren’t “fronting”, they are preparing us for the career that we chose and they do a damn fine job of it!
