For a number of years I used to drive the team bus for the Jays. As the senior player, "Doc" always sat behind me and unlike a lot of players who use the bus time to blow off steam and joke around, Doc was always quiet and dignified and the players respected that. One of the rules of driving for the team is that you don't bother them with small talk and you certainly don't ask for autographs, but at the end of the 2009 season it was obvious that Doc was going to be traded before the next season. I went to the Jays store in the stadium, bought a Halladay shirt and asked the equipment man if he could get Doc to sign it. Doc signed it and gave it back to me when boarding the bus and I thanked him for it and wished him well wherever he ended up. He was always a classy player and individual and among the best Jays players of all time, I was shocked to hear about his death and my sympathies and thoughts go to his family. I have never worn the shirt and it is one of my most treasured mementos of my time with the Jays.

RIP Roy Halladay.... This guy’s last name is on the first ever sports apparel that I have. This man was my role model when I was a kid. This Cy Young winner was my favorite player on my favorite team. This Perfect Game pitcher is one of my favorite players throughout all sports. Harry Leroy Halladay III... 🙏Please keep his family and him in your prayers

As happy as I was for Roy, I think I was even happier for Carlos Ruiz. You can tell by the smile on his face how proud he was of that game and his contribution to Roy's success from behind the plate. What a memorable team.

Doc ALWAYS threw first pitch strikes. More likely than not, it was probably the most hittable pitch he would throw in any at bat. You knew it was going to be a strike.

This was one of the most epic games I ever attended. So many of my friends were there that night, it was docs first ever playoff game and there was this tense feeling most of the night, once everyone realized what we were watching. The tension release after that final out, was pure bliss. It’s hard to describe what it’s like when 45k people all explode in joy and relief at the same exact time. It’s hard to believe we almost witnessed two perfect games in one season from him. What a legend…love and miss this man

I think a no-hitter in the post season is more impressive since the opposing team is actually trying to win the game. I notice that sometimes it looks like the batters try not to ruin it in the regular season most of the time but loosing the first game in the series is bad so you can tell they were actually trying here. He left his arm on the mound against Carpenter and the Cardinals. Guy was a true ACE and was an absolute thrill to watch every fifth day. So glad he was a Phillie and accomplished this and his perfect game in red pinstripes.

My 2nd favorite pitcher of all time behind only Steve Lefty Carlton. Doc was pure class and his work ethic was second to none. I called his perfect game earlier that season after season how locked in he was in the 1st.....I was at this game and it was one of the best moments of my life. It was the second no hitter I witnessed live, Terry Mullholland in 1990 was the other. When we resigned Cliff Lee the next season I was beyond excited. Watched the best season of baseball I ever seen. 4 Aces in the rotation and a dominant lineup. Still don’t know how we didn’t win multiple rings....

+Kobeee24BRyant No, that is what is called players past their prime. Most players only have a great 3 to 5 years in their career and then they get old and injured. That is what happened to the Phillies today with Howard becoming injured and irrelevant and Halladay becoming old and irrelevant. Cliff Lee was still great, but he was a great player on a losing team with has-beens and crappy young talent.

+CMPUNKSTR8EDGE Hamels is an ace, but the point is that they signed him to a big contract when they should have traded him. They re-signed him in 2012, when it was clear that they were on the downfall and should have began rebuilding instead of trying desperately to hang on to what was left of the '07-'11 dominance. He had the best season of his career in 2012, and could have yielded a HUGE return had they decided to trade him. Granted, he got them a pretty big return this season, but he could have done the exact same 3 years ago and the Phillies would be much further along in their current rebuilding process as a result.

Took him years to get into the playoffs. And he shows up and pitches a NoNo..wow!! I watched the entire game .and his stuff was ridiculous!! Back door breaking balls..everything was off the end of the bat! The doc was my favorite of all time. Second was NAILS.

ruiz taking charge of that last out was just brilliant. i'm a die hard red sox fan, but you can't help but root for baseball history like this if you love this amazing American pastime. I swear, I had an ESP type sensation in about the third inning and felt like halladay was gonna do something special in this one.

This was NOT 27 up, 27 down. Not a perfect game. He walked a batter with 2 outs in the 5th inning.

Technically it was 27 batters up and those 27 batters down, with one in the middle that got on, as it does take 27 outs to complete a 9 inning game. The better title would have been 27 out of 28 retired.

R.I.P. Roy, from a Blue Jays fan. Canada is very sad today. One of the greats has left us far too young. The above video is an example of what a great pitcher Hallady was. That no hitter was almost a perfect game.
