Luckily I've been raised by 2 great parents, and I don't know if it's just me, but it seems that single dads raise better children than single moms. If it is true, it's probably because single moms are typically terrible people, while single dads are a far greater variety (averaging out to ok/good men), so bad women raise damaged/vulnerable people, while good/ok men raise good/ok people.
