White Oaks isn't a big dot on the map, and it really isn't on the way to anywhere else. But as Michael and the True Crew discovered it is well worth the detour, if only to hear the great stories told in the town's delightful saloon.

I drove all the way to White Oaks from Albuquerque but to my disappointment the "No Scum Allowed" bar was closed. There is a guy setting on an old bench in front of the bar and when I asked him what was up he told me he was just sitting their because the bar had free Wi-Fi, he was checking his e-mail on his Chromebook. Their was a mule across the road feeding on some grass and the guy told me the mule was the town mayor. I just walked off chuckling not knowing if he was just fu(king with me. Now that I know the operating hours I'll have to make another trip,

Got to visit the No Scum Allowed Saloon when it was pretty much original before the new owners expanded it and turned it into a biker destination bar. Live entertainment then was Saturday night when a rancher played his old guitar and his wife sang. The old cooler had been broke for some time so beer was kept in a washtub full of ice. Last time I visited it had lost all it's original charm and was being gentrified and overrun.
