UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) - Paige Bueckers scored 26 points to lead No. 17 UConn over 24th-ranked North Carolina 76-64 in the Hall of Fame Women's Showcase on Sunday.
The former national player of the year hit 11 of her 14 shots and blocked four on the other end. Aaliyah Edwards added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Huskies (6-3)
Maria Gakdeng had 14 points and 13 rebounds for North Carolina (6-4), before fouling out late in the game. She was one of five Tar Heels in double figures.
The game was tied at halftime, but UConn scored the first of 11 points of the second half to open it up. The Huskies outscored North Carolina 29-13 in that frame and led 65-49 three quarters.
North Carolina cut the deficit to eight points with 3 minutes left, but the Huskies held on for the win.
UConn's losses have come against No. 3 North Carolina State, No. 2 UCLA and the No. 5 Longhorns.
Bueckers had 17 points in the first half, helping UConn to an 11-point second-quarter lead.
But North Carolina used an 8-0 run to pull ahead 30-28 and the game went into intermission tied at 36.

Bueckers concentrates on making the basket no matter if fouled, surrounded by defenders, or falling forward and half-way to horizontal. Phenomenal.

I love all the UCONN kids so I'm not dissing on Edwards, but she seemed out of it today. Easy with the wine coolers....lol p.s. I just saw the nose bleed stop in her nostril. I wonder if the knock in the nose made her a little woozy.

Nikka Miehl has finally realized that she is being left so wide open on every outside shot that it might as well be a free-throw. They gave her the space & she took & made the free-throw. Now, Edwards and Griffith have to make the same mental adaptation. The first step is to know where the free-throw distance is all over the floor, the second is to take a relaxed set shot just like it's a free throw. Let's face facts: Bueckers, Muehl, Fudd, Griffith, & Edwards will all attract WNBA interest at the end of this year. Having that free-throw line distance elbow jumper or set shot, will determine how much money and how feverish the interest is. Ashlyn Shade knows how to play D1 ball & so do KK Cadence. Make the most of your time on the floor, guys because all three of you could start for UConn next year. Ice, shoot it, already. We know you can & so do you. Stop aiming for the front rim; either aim to drop the ball into an imaginary cone emanating from core of the basket, or shoot for the bottom of one of the many metal hangers that hold the net in place. Don't wait until your sophomore year to show us what you have.

Utsby played the absolute WORST game of the season and why that UNC coach put Lexi D. on Paige??? Good lord.🤐😬😶 But in the grand scheme of things, why would a #17 (still #17 today) team not beat a #24 (now 25) team?

By end of game, UNC had 15 personal fouls, UConn had 14. UNC had two more turnovers than UConn and lower shooting percentage in field goals, three pointers, and free throws.

Both had the same amount of fouls until unc fouled one more. sounds fair to me.
