This 3 series, especially in sedan (saloon) form is becoming rare where I am in upstate New York. Coupé, yes, I see from time to time. WE NEVER TALK ABOUT FORBIDDEN FUEL VEHICLES AS THEY WERE NOT IMPORTED INTO THE US 🇺🇸! This 330i is very nice! We never had designations as such, mostly expensive option packages that would match this UK 🇬🇧 SE designation. Nothing like the sound of a BMW straight six. 3 series was always an aspirational BMW; you would gradually move up to a 5, 6 or 7 series with the rise of your yearly income. I like this style over the current hideous blobs that plague the current range, with nothing to differentiate other than stretching the wheelbase with model designations. And no mod cons to interfere with the driving experience! Another excellent review Joseph has, I hope both you and your wife are feeling better!

A very fine car MR Lloyd, a long with the E39, BMW was at it's best back then. Beige leather interior with wood trim and an automatic transmission, just how we like things to be.

E46 330i Automatic in dark green with a beige leather interior. Perfection. This model has never been matched for looks, handling or ride. To have the absolute best of all worlds, buy a Touring model, an E46 with space. Everyone should try an E46 at least once in their life.

Nice looking car that. As the owner I can safely say any concerns over reliability are completely unfounded so far too...😆 Ps .. actually got it to 30 mpg on a run at motorway speeds the other day!

Not a keen admirer of BMW’s however this one is in pretty good condition for the year, that interior is nice too. I just wish BMW electrics were better. I had a 5 series and the ecu was under the windscreen by the front bulkhead, not a great idea putting something electrically complex in a damp trap! 3 litre engine in a 3 series though, nice choice. Great review as always Mr Lloyd.

Great cars and I miss my E46 coupe. This, in six pot form, is definitely a future classic. That legroom isn’t any worse compare to my much bigger Jaguar XJ X300. I had a few years a ago an E39 with exactly the same colour combo. Sadly, although nice to look at, it was a pain to keep clean. New jeans colour would rub on the seats! Oh and great review!

Silky smooth, I am sure this is the most powerful car you have had on no budget reviews?. Most bought the 330(forbidden fuel) because around about this time they were telling us that its good (F F) and better for the environment, In fact petrol was almost gonna become extinct and forbidden (circa 1999-2006)!!!

I think the designers of modern car interiors could learn a lot from this car. It shames most of the black plastic brigade. The car's exterior is beautiful, too.

I love a e46 petrol auto with a beige leather and wood interior too . Dealers unfortunately are getting hold of these cars and wanting over 2k for them unless you settle for a forbidden fuel manual which I don't like .

I agree that you should not speak of Forbidden Fuel Power Units like the E46 330d. However, where I live is 30 miles from the Irish Border where fuel is charged at Euro Rates. When the Sterling Allowance is taken into account we can buy Unleaded for 4or5 pence a litre less while Forbidden Fuel is around £1.19 a litre. I hope that I have partly explained the popularity of said unspeakable vehicles where I am from. I really shouldn't mention it but I had to make a trip from Co. Donegal to Co. Down today. A 220 mile round trip. Audi A8 weighing 2.1 tons, 3.0 litre V6 heavy oil powerplant, 229 bhp. Roughly 80 miles of Motorway, the rest equally divided between A Roads and B Roads, average 39.9 mpg. Please do not reply because we don't talk about such matters on this channel. Allow may to fall onto my Claymore, Sir.

Nice engine but I bet it does not get 50mpg like the 330d did. :) The SE’s do have a nicer ride than the sport models.

When the best cars that will ever be made were made . The current 3 series is pathetic in comparison.
