Xavier McElrath-Bey is a Youth Justice Advocate with the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth. He worked for more than five years at the Northwestern University Juvenile Project as a clinical researcher/interviewer. At 13, he was given a 25-year sentence for his involvement in a gang-related first-degree murder. After serving 13 years, McElrath-Bey was released and earned an MA from Roosevelt University.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

It's amazing how far he has come. All people are capable of changing for the better and improving themselves for the benefit of themselves and those who they influence. God bless this man.

"According to Recent Finances Development of Science, the prefrontal cortex which involves rational thinking and weighing the consequences and impulse control is not fully physically developed until age 25. Until this age, youths and children rely on the amygdala to process information." This right here is the most important thing people need to remember. I find when I was a youth, and police were involved, they treated me like a criminal regardless of the situation. They need to be educated on things like how trauma affects others.

The data doesn't lie. Our society is viciously maintaining the status quo around impoverished and traumatized communities.

His voice is fine? You could always use the subtitles or watch the video in a slower speed if you have hearing issues.
