@@tigerfist5120 Good thinking! You can take Sec+ and then do some hands-on, learn tools like SIEM, EDR, Firewall etc, maybe do some tryhackme and build a home lab, use Kali Linux, Ubuntu, and a couple other VMs. Some network knowledge would be good like IP and other protocols, OSI model, how routers work etc.

Believe me, this dude is a huge outlier. Most people aren’t getting 3-4 certs in 6 months or taking multiple certs in one day. Dude was probably grinding till his hands went numb and his eyes developed blisters. Or he just has a really high aptitude for security

Research the company first. I work in IT, have a degree and you need experience because it's not something you can do in 9 months. It awful when these people misinform the average person. I can tell this person is honestly very rare. It's so much you have to learn to do security it's not something you can do in 9 months on average. That's a complete lie. I get calls and emails every day. There are so many different things you can do in computer science (pure computer science) and IT( information technology) are not exactly the same thing. That's why you need a degree. The truth is learning everything takes years. You will never know everything. You specialize in a particular area and it' takes time to learn about computers hardware and software. I've done both. I don't like getting my hands dirty so I like software and I never have to go into an office. It takes hard work, studying and a lot and often. I love to learn for the money. Just being honest. Cloud computing is interesting and is in high demand. Look at an example of resumes for that exact role. Write a functional resume. One PAGE. It usually is scanned by a computer not a person. Put the top 3-5 skills at the top of the resume. Speaking with good grammar. If you don't have excellent grammar, sorry. These men have good grammar and are well spoken. As a company recruiter I want to know if you have experience with the skillset that we are looking for in our company. I hope this Currently have worked in Technology since 1997. Hope this helps.

Had a job for about 15 years in the telecommunications industry. Went back to college for IT about half way through college, landed a job as an IT support engineer. Was support engineer for about 2 years. At the same company took on a new position as technical alignment engineer. Did that for about 8 months. Along the way I got my net+, sec+, CySA+, other cloud certs and training. Was very blessed to only apply to one cybersecurity position at a company that I wanted to work for, and was the top candidate. Along the way I would always see KZfaq videos of how to break into the cybersecurity field quickly, but it typically always consisted of applying to thousands of jobs to only land a job at a company that would likely cause burn out in the first 6 months to year and make you hate the cybersecurity field. Sometimes the fastest route isn’t always the best.

The only thing I would add is knowledge of the Applicant Tracking System, or ATS, and how to defeat it. Consider your encounters with HR and Technical Interviewers as Social Engineering. You want in. And usually they want you in, too. They posted the opening after all. Only you can fail at it.

This was a great interview. I am a Computer Support Analyst L2. I am currently studying for my security + cert. I see a lot of changes happening at the company I work for and I am getting myself prepared for the shift. A lot of gems in this video. He is right, Cybersecurity is not an entry level job. Help desk phone support is. Help desk technician are limited to what they can do. They do not have access to certain tools that can fix an end user’s issue. On top of that, they can only be on the phone for a certain amount of time. Keep up the good work. ✌🏾

Honestly enjoyed how informative this was and how brutally truthful he was in his answers and advice. I strongly agreed with the help yourself first advice before asking others for help. It’s ideal to have a career plan, learn the industry, and learn what exact role you’re trying to get into. I’m taking google’s coursera courses right now and soon will be studying for my security+. I thought maybe I should wait until after I’m certified to apply for jobs but I went ahead and started applying for help desk/support, or even entry level & jr security analyst positions. I will continue to utilize my linkedin and network more. Keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks for this video.

@ms_gy you really should consider passing Sec+ first before the Google Cybersecurity course and I only say this because the google course helps reinforce what you studied to pass the Sec+. It should be noted that Courses 7 and 8 are zero help in your Sec+ studies and are quite long. (Python scripts, and Job preparation). Minus spending a lot of time on SQL, courses 1 - 6 have some use but you’re better off making these two credentials as separate goals and not mixed. Coursera course is more about learning the basics and a small fraction of what can be used in a job of cyber security. Security+ you’re mainly studying to pass an exam. It’s two different approaches of study. Also, do not rely only on the Coursera course to pass Sec+. It didn’t cover everything I thought I saw on the exam itself.

I’m discovering similar things with resume writing. I have not written nor used a resume myself for over 20 years. Trying to extract skills that I either acquired from my military service or picked up along the way the majority of these skills are not even remotely relevant for the jobs I’m targeting. I’m totally rebuilding my resume specifically targeting specific jobs. Yeah it may be a good idea to have a longer resume with the wide range of skills if it is getting posted somewhere that employers go into and find someone. If you’re submitting an application and a resume for a specific job it needs to target what the employer is looking for. Remove the other non relevant information.

Hellow I.T .I am a single mum of three and I had my first degree from computer science. Actually I have a degree and an ordinary diploma in computer science. During my project in ordinary diploma I had it in mind to write a project on cyber security. Actually then I didn't even know if there was anything like cyber security. But I just had the inspiration in me that I want to protect people or companies who have been facing security issues. I just had the feeling that I should create an app which can be used to protect this companies from all this problems. But I didn't have the knowledge or someone good enough to guide me. So I didn't continue with the project. But after my first degree I got to understand better and I knew of cyber security and I do really want to get there. So I will keep watching and I will always need guidelines. Thank you for your good work

I hear people say all the time that certifications don't matter, what matters is what you can do. But those certifications teach you the skills and gives you the vocabulary. I think people need to look at certifications differently.

Pre Internet, 1980's pre PC, my Dad who was a CPA cut out a job listing from the newspaper, stapled it to a letter and hand wrote "I meet all the fore mentioned requirements." That low end 50k is still almost 10k more than what I make now so for somebody like me that’s a whole upgrade. I mean I do want my sights set higher but if that can get my foot in the door I can hit the ground running. Learned a lot by watching this video that I just so happened to stumble upon cus I am asking certain questions like which direction I want to go in and what can I learn that somebody like me that’s not the most technical sound guy in the world of computers etc. I’m also not working with a great lump sum of cash that’s why I’m seeking where I need to start at as far as certifications. I dnt mind doing the work cus I want this real bad. I just need the knowledge to know where I need to start and this vid have given me a lil bit of clarity

This is what works for me... I dislike physical reading. I LOVE video courses. So Udemy, Pluralsight, CBTNuggets, ACloudGuru, these are some of my favorite learning platforms to prepare for most certifications... I play videos on 1.5x-2.0x speed. For whatever reason, I can pay attention better and of course I get done the video course in a shorter amount of time Then, I find practice exams and I GRIND THEM. Repetition is the mother of skill. I'll do a bundle of practice exams, 2, 3, even 4 times until I'm consistently scoring above 90%.

I also had a high school class that was supposed to teach us an IT cert, the A+ in my case, but we didn’t get it because our teacher flaked out. He was also the school IT guy and decided he was too busy to teach us. On a side note it’s pretty funny how many people I’ve heard describe how they just followed their interests into a good job and then attribute it to hard work and determination 😂

my name is mike and i have a question for you. I am looking into a career change i have 15 years expereince in the plant automation side of things. cybersecurity really appeals to me. i am one that gets bored doing the same thing over and over. From the it side if things i am starting from scratch even though a lot of skills i have acquired are very similar. like the networking side of things. especially radios and i really have enjoyed the networking side. which was a lot of out calls as an E&I tech. As i understand help desk is where it all starts. what is the best way to get that first it paying job?
