In this one I'm working on a collage from some compressed charcoal drawings made outside.
I don't stick to any hard rules when taking these back to the studio to work on, preferring to take each one as it comes and do only what that particular drawing needs.
This way I don't have any pre conceived idea of what I think I should have, I work with what I've got and the visual ideas are fresher.

--------------------------------------------------
Working with mixed media using a variety of different paints. I work rapidly but build up the paintings in layers to make sketches that can be referenced in studio paintings.
Lewis Noble has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us.
His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface, they contain all of the time it takes to make them.
The result is a body of work that speaks to the heart of what it means to be part of the environment.

The large piece of paper is also another analogy with having more megapixels in a camera. The more you have the larger you can photograph and still crop as much as you want in post to create the right composition once back in the studio

Nice little work. I wanted the top crop to be just a bit lower. I was calling out at the tv to tell you but you didn’t take any notice 😆 But the result was good, and it didn’t need collage.

Just a quick question Lewis if you have a spare moment. What's your take on prepping one's water colour/cartridge paper before heading out on a drawing/painting exercise with graphite, charcoals, acrylics and pencils? I know some artists I follow on KZfaq always gesso up but without explaining why. Are there any pros to prepping your paper this way or is the end result better without it for some reason? Kia ora!
@LewisNobleArtist
@LewisNobleArtist 3 жыл бұрын
Priming will make the paper less absorbent and help it to take some punishment. I would only do this on heavy paper like watercolour or it'll crinkle up and be annoying to work on. I don't prime cartridge paper, I find it takes the paint well. You can get paper in pads for mixed media work too which is good. I have primed water colour paper before if I'm going to use it for finished work but I'm not using it at the moment. Thanks for watching!

Loved the 3rd one. I'd hang it on my walls. These may be your warm up, but I love this type of art actually. Just a little advice about the videos, try to watch the um and uh. Its quite distracting because they're at almost every other word.

@@boweryboy07 It is advice. Friendly advice at that. I'm a teacher and if I said "um" after every word, it would be a very difficult and boring lecture every time.
