Could I use this method if I want to add more superfat in my soap? since my CP soap feels too dry for my skin

@@elistyle82 - No, you still need to use Lye because this isn't real "rebatching" in which you use heat to melt the soap, it's a technique known as Confetti Soap.

Using the Vitamix sounds like a good idea - I was thinking that my stick blender would probably burn out. Did you heat your oils much or just melt them? Thanks.

If the batch is 1000 grms do I calculate the lye for 700 grms of oil?

Thank you for your comment. I understand, however I don’t see why rebatching good soap couldn’t also be called rebatching. This is obviously not the method to use with lye heavy soap, I will add a disclaimer on that. I don’t think this is a confetti soap since the end product is very different. People often wonder what they could do with perfectly good leftover soap and this video is for those people❤

@@tellervo. I also agree that this is rebatchinb soap. You can rebatch any soap even if it was a perfectly good bar with no imperfections or lye oil or fragrance issues. Great way to rebatch. Thank you for this video

@@tellervo. you are in essence 'rebatching' to make a new soap. So to say you are rebatching would be in my humble view quite acceptable. Love the soap, I may end up making this sort of a batch once we get a bit more of our soap used 😂

@@tellervo. - Folks rebatch "good" soap all the time, it isn't always about fixing a soap that has too much or too little Lye. Maybe soap has lost it's scent or the colorant faded, morphed or just didn't turn out the way you wanted. And it isn't always about fixing anything either...you can actually buy pre-shredded unscented, uncolored soap (BrambleBerry sells regular and goat milk shreds). It's a great alternative for folks who don't want to hassle with Sodium Hydroxide, but also don't want to make M&P. But in order to 'rebatch' a soap...you have to remelt it. You do this by first grating the soap into shreds, putting it in a slow cooker or double-boiler on the stove, adding liquid...usually Distilled Water, and applying heat. All you did was grate the soap and then added the shreds to CP Soap...that's called "Confetti Soap". Confetti Soap refers to bars that contain shreds of previously made batches. And as with Rebatch, it has evolved...it's gone from folks recycling their trimmings and putting it in a white soap to using it as a design element. A few months back I made a soap to resemble Brach's Neapolitan Coconut Sundaes. To replicate the 'coconut', I made a small batch of unscented white soap and shredded it and then added to each layer. I've seen white soap used in blue to make 'snow', or in black soap to make 'stars'. And you don't have to use 'shreds' to make a Confetti Soap...you can simply chop up a soap into different size bits/chunks, or cut it into different size squares or chop up extruded soap dough. Now I do agree that the end product looks different. Hot Process/Rebatched Soap has a very unique appearance, which is why I was so quick to click on your like...your 'rebatch' looked like Cold Process Soap and so I thought you had invented some new process. But once I saw you add the shredded soap to a new batch of soap, I knew it wasn't. And even though you used the same dark colorant and stick blended the shreds, you can still see them in your soap...it's just the nature of the beast.

So, just so I have it straight, if I have 100 g oil, I add 30 g shreds for total weight of 130 g, or is it 70 g oil and 30 g shreds for a total weight of 100 g?

Any soap shreds should be fine and I don’t see a problem with adding milk either.

Thank you❤ Kaolin clay is just an additive, it’s fine to leave out. I also saw your other comments about the recipes. I don’t always share them, especially if the video is about showing a technique. When I make ‘how to’ videos on a specific soap or additive I always share detailed recipes. But I do encourage every soap maker to learn about fatty acids and how to formulate your own recipes. This way you can learn how different oils and fats perform in soap and you get a better understanding of what you like. For example, I often use a lot of butters in soap, but not everyone likes that🙂

If you can grate your soap, it should be fine to rebatch. Fresher soap is easier to grate. I would not discount my water in rebatch in an older soap.

Yes, exactly. The soap scraps are already saponified. The final soap has to be cured for about 4 weeks since there is fresh soap in the mixture.

Use the same amount of lye solution and oils, do not decrease anything and add the soap shreds on top off that.

I actually used a different one. In the soap scraps I had used an essential oil blend, for this soap I used a fragrance oil and I find that it overpowered the essential oils

The lye amount should always be based on the amount of oils. It would depend on the oils being used. I recommend using a soap calculator to determine this.

Oh I'm sorry about your soap. That doesn't sound normal at all, what water percentage did you use?

@@tellervo. 32% lye concentration but it was pretty high in olive oil, it has firmed up now so I should have just left it in the mold for longer! I was able to fix the shape by cutting it so it still looks okay. Will definitely try again with less soft oils, I love how easy this technique is :)

I would check that there's no oil streaks on the blender shaft and let it go a little thicker then I normally would :)
