Extreme Acceleration | My first soap on a stick | Rebatching Soap?

Ophelia’s Soapery

Күн бұрын

I know it's hard to believe as long as I've been soaping I've never had a 'soap on a stick'
But it finally happened! I am usually very good at reading reviews and notes from sellers on if a fragrance accelerates.
BUT in my defense I had used this fragrance in the past and it was perfect. When I re purchased it I didn't think to check the notes. 🤣
I posted a video on my Instagram showing the soap acceleration and received a lot of questions so I thought I would post the most frequently asked ones here 🥰
1. What was the fragrance oil?
- It was Japanese Cherry Blossom from Wholesale Supplies Plus
2. You should soap at room temperature.
- I did. Both lye water and oils were room temperature. I don't think even stirring in the fragrance would have helped this one. 😳
This was my first time Rebatching a soap so I am no professional, please do research and watch a lot of videos on it. 😁

It’s lovely to be able to see the face behind the hands. When I get soap on a stick, I usually add a bit of water and put it in the microwave. It gets the rebatching done within a few minutes.

Oh my goodness! Your struggle was felt deep here. But that finished bar... is absolutely stunning! If I hadn't watched the video I wouldn't have known the design wasn't deliberate. Gives off a jade stone or a unfinished turquoise stone vibe! So happy this worked out for you.

Seeing soap accelerate is crazy! Especially in person. I experimented my first year using 15% shea butter and the instant we started mixing the fragrance in with that batch of oils it seized instantly. Looked like dried up peanut butter in the end but was a nice batch of soap lol

@@mimiohnine Welcome to soaping; it is great fun!!! As Ms McBride mentioned, there is possibility of lye pockets (or fragrance pockets). In my case, I could have rebatched in crockpot, but didn’t have one. The soap literally looked like rocks when I tried to break it up. It was solid within a few seconds! Anyway, what you saw Julie do here was incredible.

I thought the issue was the temperature. Normally she pours the lye water while it's hot instead of after it has cooled....
@christeef6840
@christeef6840 2 жыл бұрын
@@SamuelsReview It's not temperature because most soapers used cooled lye. Julie uses the heat transfer method and although that works great and is easier in my opinion as well - most soapers don't use her method. This was 100% the fragrance oil which is always what causes these situations unfortunately.

I've had that happen on new fragrances and since I often use a crock pot when I soap, since I do several batches, I just threw it all in a crock pot on low and went on to do other things. An hour later it had melted into a nice gel that came out as a really wonderful soap. I started soap making with re-batching and one of the things i love to do is let it fully set, then make curly shavings and put them in a clear melt and pour with a complimentary fragrance and use small cavity molds for unusual shapes with red and green swirls in them. People love those and never once guess it was a disaster at the beginning.

Omg Julie, I'm so proud of you for sticking this one out and ending up with a gorgeous soap in the end, I fully loled @ 2:00 bc i was about to comment "you totally need a salad shooter for future seizing and confetti batches" and out came the food processor! mind meld!! 🤣😘 p.s. I had this exact same thing happen with an Irish Cream Coffee FO! It was completely soap safe but I sourced it from a candle supplier who didn't have many soap relevant reviews at the time and man oh man was it a doozy! Luckily I was able to save it by shredding it (as I'd premixed my colors, Earth Brown mica and TD) and confetti it 50/50 in a batch of activated charcoal soap and made it look intentional. The IFRA usage rate on it was well over ten percent, so I used a "full" 5% in the seized batch, and with coffee being such a naturally strong fragrance even at 2.5% it was still lovely.
