Back to the Herman's Hermits with this classic. I got lots of requests for this one so I found the best version I could and it was an "extended" version in stereo. The one thing you will notice from the beginning part is that it has a true stereo effect. The original guitar was played on a classical guitar with nylon strings. I sold the one I had so I used my Yamaha 6 string acoustic on the left channel.
I carefully match up the tuning and the EQ to be perfect.
I didn't layer many tracks but tried to keep it simple. Just the rhythm
guitar on the left, vocals at critical parts. snare drum on the right and
keyboard sounds (strings and bells) on the extended end. Hope you oldies fans like it!

Herman's Hermits was one of the groups who made hits of Graham Gouldman's great songs. This was released as the B side of "There's A Kind of Hush" and made for a two-sided hit single. In 1967, as an 11 year old with limited funds, being able to buy a 45 with two hits that I loved was a big deal.

A very tricky song to sing with 26 different parts. Requires superior breath control to navigate its tighter passages. Peter's impeccable timing made this song work. Go watch any Herman's Hermits vid and you will see Noone keeping time with metronome precision by tapping the side of his leg with free hand. He may not have had 4 octave range but he had impeccable timing.

My sister who is 71 now says same thing , the sound of the bell makes this song unique and timeless , brings her back the 60's.school days.

No Milk Today was not a song I had heard often in the past. I'm just a bit glad of that. There aren't many new songs I like very much. This is a gift. It is like a new song and I love it.

Mine too, very much in the style of The Hollies. But if you want to hear it in true stereo with it's beautiful extra long ending without the overdubbed krap here such as the silly hand clapping towards the end, it is on their Bear Family Double CD 50th Anniversary Anthology, which contains a lot of first time stereos of their classics, some of them with full longer endings for the first time. But I picked up a different stereo mix of this on KZfaq with different instrumental separation between the channels, labelled Tom Moulton mix, with a bit of studio chatter at the beginning, which does not seem to be here anymore. But the extra long ending was not so long. The only problem with this song was the line The Company Was Gay. But the worl Gay didn't mean homosexual in those days. But they will steal words.

To me, this was an example of a "mature" Herman Hermit's song, as opposed to their other works which were made to appeal to the younger teenage market. This is done very well, and has a wider appeal than their "Henry VIII" style.

Whenever I listen to any of my CDs, I always have to adjust the bass and treble controls on my amplifier. No matter what track I listen to of yours, I always leave the controls at FLAT - kudos to you for that kind of perfection!

hello,cinimatic..your remixes on great,to those of us who bought these 45 in the 60s were very fortunate because everyone was doing creative music,from soundtracks to popular,& r& B,what is sad most studios had 4tk tape until 68,when the upgrade happened,..I call 1968 the 8tk tape-year,get it,,the firsr 8tk mix I recall was I wish that it would rain,temptations,atlantic label had 8 tk first & columbia did also,in 1965,capitol I think not until 68,my point about this is all music forms need 8tk because all the instruments need their own tk because the texture is different and when say drums & bass are one one tk the mix and balance is fixed.thats why early 60s mixies are arkward to listen to,beatles especially all those british mixes,and the pop records from the USA from 60 to 63,anyway how about doing some beatles,like she loves ,please please me,from me to you,differemt drum-the stereo mix fro the ponys 2nd LP which has the un-edited keyboard part,if I think of more songs,I will email you again,thanks,dan,,,

As an avid 60s record collector, I was particularly interested in this 'extended' version which I had never heard before. I'm only guessing but I think the 'extended' bit is the short but lovely instrumental ending which starts at 3:03 and gives the record a pleasant surprise to the end of the song. I think I'm right in saying that the original 45 release faded out well before this. Kenn's treatment was another masterpiece too. Keep 'em coming Kenn, we love your work! As a footnote. Kenn, I have waited and waited in vain for you to enhance the original version of John Leyton's, Johnny remember me. I know you did do a version but it wasn't the original one and to be honest, painful to listen to. PLEASE redo it and sling your first version out with the rubbish!! Sorry to be critical of your work as everything else you've done is first rate, it's the only one in your catalogue that's bad apple!

why they called it `Pop' ~it was not threatening to kids. It was NOT political.~no AGENDA. it was exciting & new. basically free, unless you wanted a recording. ~which you could get on 45rpm for a dollar. WITH their photo on the cover. and they looked like YOU, but had a cool, British accent. and hair.
