Thank you! I'm new to polymer clay and I'm using Fimo soft and it's sticking to the acrylic surface. I was using the blade flat to scrape and getting all sorts of distortions. Thanks for this tip!

I'm glad it was helpful. You might want to skip the acrylic surface and go for a glass or glossy ceramic tile. You'll have much better control and it won't get all scratched up.

Thank you so much for this! I used the same cutter as you do and when I tried to cut them loose, they distorted and were no longer a nice even pair 😢

Thank you so much. Really simple and informative video and you’ve saved me from paying out for a huge blade as I thought the fact that my blades being too small were the reason for the distortion!

Thank you for mentioning leeching. I was so worried my clay would be dry, turns out it’s too fresh and needs to be leeched. 😅

I found this video very helpful and informative. I am feeling so stressed as a newbie working with polymer clay. Literally, everything she described happened to me😅😅 but I definitely learned alot, thank you.

There's no reason to be stressed, it's just clay! It's all good. Glad the info helped!

Ok first it was so hard to watch what you were doing because I couldn’t take my eyes off of your nails!! They are on point, I LOVE that polish! Ok so back to business, lots of great info for this newbie, thank you! What is that blade called and where could I purchase one? I need to get some sort of shiny surface too.

That is just a polymer clay blade. You can get one at craft stores or on Amazon.

I'm going to look on your KZfaq page, but how do you know how thick your clay should be? I would like to make some tiles for several projects and I've seen some videos where people have done it (that's why I want to), but either I'm missing it, or they aren't saying how thick the clay should be. Can you give me some helpful advice. Thank you so much!

@@thebluebottletree Aaaaahh gotcha thanks! I notice when using an extruder that if it’s the slightest too firm, shapes like the square come out with cracks/splits along the corner edges. Doing it really slow usually helps that, but ow..

@@ION400 Yeah, just the nature of the beast. Polymer is non-Newtonian and it gets super stiff and will crack when you put rapid pressure on it. The solution is to make it warmer, less viscous, and move it more slowly.

Hello, I've read your article about cutters but I can't find the solution to my problem. When I use cutters on polymer clay, the pieces come out with a sunken center. The cutters I use are sharp. This happens with both soft and rigid clay. Could you tell me what the problem might be?
@thebluebottletree
@thebluebottletree 2 ай бұрын
When the cutter pushes through the clay, that excess clay has to go somewhere. It tends to mound up a bit around the edges, making the center look sunken. This is accentuated by cutters that mash the edges rather than cut, or when the clay is super soft. The solution is to flatten the pieces after cutting by laying paper on the top and rubbing the tops ever so gently with something flat like an espresso tamper or even an inverted tile.

I tried lifting my clay with blade ,but I get those blade line marks at the back of the polymer clay while lifting them ,what do I do ?

It sounds like your clay is too soft and/or your blade has nicks in it. It also takes practice. I'm finding that lately the stocks of clay are very softly Please check out this article: thebluebottletree.com/most-polymer-clay-problems-are-caused-by-this-one-thing/

How do you avoid moonies in translucent clays? I don't expect a perfect miracle i just don't want as many.
@thebluebottletree
@thebluebottletree 11 ай бұрын
They're nearly impossible to avoid completely. But you can minimize them with proper baking and also making the pieces as thin as possible.
