Finally!! No More flat bike tires, thanks to my friends over at Tannus Armour & their inserts! Over the last year I've dealt with an absurd amount of flats across all my bikes which is why I initally installed Tannus Armour Tubeless on my MTB but the tubed inserts intrigued me. For my gravel bike I didn't want to have to mess with sealant especially if I was way out on a big ride, eliminating potential issues is my favorite which is why I'm stoked to experiment with these inserts which look to be pretty dang bombproof.
Let's face it, flat tires SUCK & there are a ton of innovations out there to help with them but in my experience none of those options have been as easy to install as the Tannus ecosystem. After struggling with similar tubeless inserts from other brands in the past I was a little worried when it came to installing the Tubeless Tannus Armour on my MTB but it was a breeze, then there's these tubed inserts - it felt WRONG how easy they were to install which also gives me confidence in the worst case scenario of having to install a tube out on a ride. No messy sealant & worst case scenario you can run them flat until you can get some where to repair the tire.
One of my favorite things I've experienced so far with the mountain bike is how much more manageable the tire grip feels during cornering, although that's not as critical on a gravel bike it is nice to have that confidence when you need it. I'm stoked to get more familiar with this setup on my Fairdale & am happy to report back after a few hundred miles about how I'm feeling on it but if it's anything like the tubeless setup...it's going to be ripper!
Shout in the comments w/ any questions!
Stay RAD,
-Mike

So super easy. I think it depends. With our short side wall height, it was difficult. Tannus Armour had to be trimmed on a short side wall height. I should note that I was replacing the tires to and Tannus recommends trimming and using dish soap to help with the insert positioning and fitting.

Good note! Thankfully I have meaty tires on my rig so trimming wasn't required but I did have to trip on my wife's gravel bike.

That looks like something my wife would like for her 700c wheeled commuter bike. She had a few flats last year and these tubed inserts might help. Plus, who doesn’t like a smoother ride. Thanks for the video.

Funny enough my wife is what led me to learning more about these! She got a flat on her gravel rig & I considered going tubeless on that bike but I didn’t want her to have to deal with sealant if she had to replace a tube out on a solo ride. This was the perfect solution & the weight is pretty negligible.

Yeah, but were they easy to install though? 😛

@@whateverbikes in my honest opinion, yes! Really no more difficult than a tube change. The tubeless version naturally requires some additional finesse; but not much!

i'll definitely watch more videos working on bikes! tomorrow i'm checking out a local nonprofit that repairs, cleans, and gives away bikes -- my intent is to start volunteering with them as a mechanic. i like working on bikes just about as much as i like riding them! also planning on inviting neighbors to bring bikes by to hang out and tune up / repair stuff i'm equipped for starting this spring.

Right on!! I think I’ll do a more detailed install video since this was so quick & dirty. Personally I’ve never enjoyed working on my bikes until recently…having the right tools, a stand, & a little space definitely helps up the fun factor! I love that man!! Such a rad way to give back to your community & help friends out, plus, getting more people out riding never hurts! Happy wrenching amigo. 🫶🏻

I went to the bike shop today to get them installed it took the guy 40 minutes. Now both of my bikes are protected from flats.

Is the rolling resistance difference big?I mean if the rider can really feel the bike is slower?

I dont understand going tubless then adding a bunch of weight and liquid so it seals and you dont get flats
@JoyOfBike

It definitely has its benefits but nothing is a sure bet, with a full tubeless setup - no insert you’d probably save roughly 7.5oz per tire, fully dependent on how much sealant you add…but doing sealant + insert, this is definitely the way to go. I’ve yet to play around with a tube+insert combo like this on a MTB with more rock hits & opportunity for pinches - but it’s something I think I’ll get to entertain a bit on the gravel bike & perhaps down the road on my MTB

For a gravel bike sure. But they’re a pain to get the tire to spin true and make a mtn bike feel so heavy. Even compared to my Cushcore inserts. Google it. You literally have to ride a gear lower to offset rolling resistance and that’s compared to other inserts. I’m posting this for people with mtbs on the fence about it going tubeless or retaining tubes with these. Just go tubeless. Even if it is with Tannus Tubeless inserts. But if you only ride you bike 1x every 3 months, then use these.

I'm planning to try these on my MTB at some point, too - I do love my Tannus tubeless set up there but I'm always interested in trying new things. When I try the tubed inserts on the MTB I'll most likely use the Tubilito to help cut down on some of that rotational weight, however. I think a big thing to keep in mind with these types of inserts if they aren't sitting true is the tube size used (it's a good idea to size the width) & tire size it's going in, if the tire size is on the narrower end you can trim the insert to make it fit better, thus helping it spin true. This was something I was concerned about setting them up on my bike, but I can't feel any hop or abnormal feelings so far.

@@JoyOfBike I did a video on here that’s helped people get them to run true. Yes I did run a smaller inner tube and trimmed the insert as well. When I ran them on a ebike, I had to use the next higher power setting and saw a 20% decrease in battery life on the same exact trails I test on. I like a damped ride with tubeless inserts, but man these are a whole next level. Running plastic tubes like you mention might help a little.
