For those who doesn't understand: We all thought he was getting a NEW contract. That would be with new/different conditions than he allready had. Potensially different salary and slightly different responsabilities. Maybe less of a saying in transfers. But that is not what has happened. The contract is not new, it's exactly the same as it was. They just activated the extra year he had in his excisting contract. So therefore, it's NOT a new contract as we all thought he was signing.

Makes good sense to me. If ETH does well next season then he will have a very strong hand plus other suitors. If he has a poor season then at least he would be well compensated. For the Club, it provides flexibility regarding the Manager. It look like we now have adults running the club making logical and not emotional decisions.

Seems very astute and reasonable to agree a one year extension. It gives Ten Hag the opportunity to impress in the Premiership this coming season, while not throwing more money at a new deal that they may need to tear up next year.

Hence they talked to new managers, and, with the new season approaching, they've decided to extend his current contract as a compromise. If ten hag is sacked, Ruud will stay since is attached to the club,.. plus they would easily Appoint Ruud or any other manager to work with the exact players brought in. It's what good well run clubs do,.. buying players that fits the philosophy of the club and for any manager considered or appointed.

I am ten Haag in but this actually makes a lot of sense…I understand the injuries but there are aspects ETH can improve on…two years gives him some time to continue the project and if he shows improvement, I am sure Ineos will give him a longer deal…but if he doesn’t, we will still be in a position to go a different direction with one year left rather than another 2-3 years left…

If you change every part of a ship, is it still the same ship? The ship is not defined by its individual materials, but by everything as a whole. If you need to replace parts, you have to for the benefit of the ship, and the broken parts of the ship very swiftly no longer belong to the ship. You’ve missed the point about player power. A new multi-year contract would have squelched player power resurfacing after a theoretical next run of bad results. Than again, this is partly Ten Hag’s decision not to relent in the differentiation between manager and first team coach, but the problem here is a risk of the coming season bringing much of the painful dynamics the last season did.

Hoping that they did this because they have so many transfers to sort out that there wasn’t time to iron out a whole new contract for ETH so this is a quick solution and sort out longer contract over the course of next season (if all goes well)

They needed to get an extension in quick as with the mentality of these players - if there was any doubt of ten hag leaving at the end of the season they would down tools like they did with Ralf. This makes sense and will be interesting to see what happens further down the line.

Delighted with this news the reality is that this is the same deal he had a year plus an extension is we wanted it now he has a two year guaranteed deal. Mark why do you believe? that ETH Said bring in RVN & the other chap. A sporting director team above him. INEOS has just done a full review. They sat down with the new team discussed what to bring in to help ETH. INEOS then presented that's to Eric. Even Eric Himself has said in an interview we're all on the same page. Sounds like a Chelsea blueprint to me.

I thought these players are agreed on by the whole management.... i want to see new player im done hoping i just want to see new players i can't support this if they dont give ETH enough players to play the way he wants
