I played in Japan many times for the last 30 years as a studio musician and was always blown away by Bands in that country performing live exceptional performances, especially rock/metal. Being from Europe and living in the US, I played it all and seen a lot, but the music scene in Japan is one of a kind. Especially if you are into Rock/Metal, they got that part covered and you find yourself blown away by a 17 year old kid playing live in a dive bar in Tokyo. As to Japanese Bands, I have seen Band Maid and Lovebites amongst others live in Tokyo and was just floored. Then I continued to see them live in Europe and the US and each time I was impressed more in how they capture their Genre of Metal/Rock by using amazing musical ability. Especially band Maid has a huge appeal to musicians/ older generation like myself especially since they figured out how to use their rock/metal influences from past/mix with present and create their own genre while doing that. That, I think is brilliant by itself.

I literally avoided Band-Maid for a year because the thumbnail was cute women in maid outfits. So no, I’m most definitely not in it for the fetish aspect. One night I clicked on the Dice MV and that was it, hopelessly obsessed with the music.

Your story is almost the same as mine. I saw BabyMetal and BAND-MAID appear as suggestions from time to time. In my prejudice, I thought it was something like The Voice for kids in Japan where they do rock covers or something like that... But one day I happened to click on BAND-MAID. Think it was Puzzle or DICE? The only thing I remember is sitting there fascinated by the drummer's incredible playing. Then I read that her name was Akane and realized that I had heard of her before, everyone said she is incredibly good. Since then, I'm stuck.

I was the same way, but it was only a couple months or so for me. @wave potter kept talking about how much he loved them and I just kept putting them off. For me, part of it I think is that I'm not a fan of Baby Metal. Their music just doesn't resonate with me. I can see the talent and I can see why other people may like them, but they are just not my thing and I wrongly associated Band Maid with what I was seeing from Baby Metal. But after I kept hearing people talk about Band Maid, I finally broke down and clicked on one of their videos and I've been hooked ever since and they've pulled me in to the Japanese music scene. I don't love everything I've heard from Japan, but to name a few that I now listen to regularly: Band Maid, Nemophila, Scandal, Luna Sea, Maximum the Hormone, Gacharic Spin, Polkadot Stingray, 9mm parabellum Bullet, Fern Planet, Rick Rack, and Trident are the ones that come to mind. I like Lovebites and I think they are insanely talented musicians, but I don't listen to them as often. And as far as Band Maid is concerned, if they stopped wearing the costumes today that would be perfectly fine with me. I would probably actually rather they just started coming out in their street clothes to be honest, but I've never really understood the attraction to maid costumes really. Again, just not really my thing I guess.

@@LostAgain1970 Is this supposed to be in response to me? Cause I'm not sure what it has to do with my comment. Anyways, yeah, I know everything you just said, but gap is more about the difference between the outward appearance and the way one presents themselves. In the case of Band Maid it's the divide between their cutesy appearance and their hard rock sound. I haven't come across anything that tells me that Kanami went to music school outside of her music club in high school, but I know that Misa and Akane knew each other from their music school. They are all extraordinarily motivated to succeed with Band Maid from all the interviews I've read and seen, but there is little doubt that Miku and Kanami do a lot of the heavy lifting in the band with Kanami writing constantly and Miku doing lyrics and exhaustively doing appearances and marketing the band. She never seems to stop driving forward. That said, Misa and Akane are my absolute favorite rhythm section in the business and are both brilliant on their respective instruments and Saiki's vocal talent is second to none as far as I'm concerned.

I would note that there's a clear relationship between reactors' musical backgrounds and their response to the band. Those who "like music" tend to like Band-Maid. Those who "know music" tend to love Band-Maid. Idiots like Finn can't see past the skirts. Consider in-depth reaction channels such as Jbf Music & Guitar, which features 21 Band-Maid videos. Then there's Chase Carneson, who did 5 Baby Metal reactions before listening to Band-Maid for the first time. He was quick to reassure Baby Metal fans that he was not abandoning Baby Metal reactions, but since hearing his first Band-Maid song, he's never gone back. His Band-Maid playlist now stands at 19 songs. As he put it: "I don't want to hear that they're good for pop musicians, or they're good for their age, or they're good because they're female musicians. Get that rubbish out of here--they are great musicians."

I wanted to point out one specific quote from his original video. He says "is there something about being from japan that changes the sound of the music you would make"? This sentence baffles me. He doesnt seen to understand the concept of a music scene. Because yes being from japan does change the sound of the music you would make because you are growing up in a music scene which has influences different from that of the Swedish or American metal scene for example. You wouldnt get a band like Baby-Metal in America because America doesnt have an Idol scene to take influence from. You wouldnt get Hanabie because you dont have the Maximum the Hormone influence in America as much. Like theres nothing wrong with liking Swedish death metal so whats the issue with like Japanese Metalcore? Also he seems to think it's the year 1852 or before because he claims Japan is super insular and doesnt advertise to foreign markets despite Japan opening up to western markets in 1853 when Matthew Perry brought gunboats to the shores of Japan. Not to mention that Japan had never stopped trading with other asian countries and the fact that even at the time seeing Japan as "closed to the world" is eurocentric and racist in itself.

Best band I've heard in 40+ years. Bought the cd's and blu rays. That they are 5 petite attractive women....bonus....great they are watchable. A lot of his criticisms were "This sound was played out in 2011", and "This would have been fine in 2000". So I guess bands all have to conform to the new sound or else it sucks? Damn, better throw away all your old albums since you can't listen to them anymore. I actually appreciate that some Japanese bands play older styles of music instead of the same stuff we hear on the radio nowadays. As far as "People in Japan don't even like this", I mean...he's right, but not because the bands suck or it's a nerdy thing. People in Japan listen to pop. The same as here in America where your favorite metal band gets almost no exposure compared to Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish and whoever else. The last thing I'll say is that his chat kept saying, "It's good if you like this genre", and he responded, "Yeah but is that genre good? In my opinion no". He said it multiple times. So I get the impression he either doesn't like anything or doesn't want to like anything. Probably the latter, so he could make his terrible video.

Doc Loco in a comment here pretty much sums it up: "You give too much importance to a nobody." The guy is a KZfaqr operating what appears to be a music channel with a lot of subs. He does not appear to be a musician or musical scholar that could talk about or react to music at those levels. He is, like most KZfaqrs, an entertainer (hence the subs). In other words, the guy is qualified to talk about what any other Joe-off-the-street is qualified to do: to discuss aesthetically what music he personally likes and doesn't like. The controversy enters with his conceit: he knows the "truth" about which music is "objectively" good and bad, and has deemed Japanese music to be bad. (Yes, lol, he uses the language of "truth" and "objectivity.") How does he arrive at this "objective truth?" First, he plays samples from a full spectrum of musical genres to make a grand generalization based on nationality: music from Japan is unoriginal and derivative. It's not this song or this band, it's a Japanese thing. Why? Because, "This sounds like stuff we Americans already did years ago, right?" In other words, Japanese music is just re-hashed old stale American music. He concedes however that it is played well lol (the ole, "Asians can learn stuff good, but creativity and ingenuity can't be taught"). Annoyingly, he seems to think that repeating - "If an American band played this, we'd all think it bad." - proves something more than just "I think it's bad because I do." It's obvious that the guy's knowledge of Japanese music is about as deep as plastic wrap. But worse is the vid's sub-text. If you're a fan of Japanese music, you're an idiot. And not just a regular idiot, but a dumb one. Because you lack the self-awareness to realize that what really, secretly attracts you to Japanese music, is not the music: it's the exoticness. I couldn't make this crap up. I want to mention that Mr. Finn cheered on some pretty ugly stuff in the comments to his vid.

This ass hat could not be more wrong. I have been a musician for almost 50 years, when I first saw Band Maid come across my KZfaq feed, I took one look at their thumbnail and said to myself, "I am not listening to this shit." I judged the book by it's cover. My arrogant musician's mind could not conceive that these ladies could play, let alone be outstanding musicians. They looked "too kawaii" "too cute", and "they are girls for crying out loud". I am being completely honest and I am so embarrassed about how I thought. One night during lockdowns, I was desperately starved for new and different music, something I have not heard before. I decided to bite the bullet and checked out Dice. Well I that turned my head around. From there I went to Blooming, I was hooked. Next videos from Shibuya started dropping and realized that these musicians were entirely different from the cartoons of western rock and metal that I was bored to tears with. Band Maid are a breath of fresh air from scowling ugly guys dressed in black showing us everything that they know in 20 seconds. They actually look like they are having more fun than their audience (if that's possible). Also they look like they like each other. They write music in a way that most western bands wouldn't dream of doing, They combine different elements of rock in a way that on paper does not make sense, but sounds quite natural in these gifted musician's hands. No. I do not have a Japanese fetish. I have played in many jazz and prog bands for decades with many great musicians. I am not saying that makes me special, but I know what great musicianship and outstanding song composing is. This little pu$$y is nothing more than a jealous bitter little troll. Ah I shouldn’t write that about this guy Finn and his "truth" but I can’t stand fast 😅 That was a very reflected and appropriate reaction here. I couldn't have done it like that. Much has been cleverly said about the illogicality of his argument. I know this type of guy in Asia and they've always gotten on my nerves. I've lived and worked in Japan and I've seen two types of expats (to use his simplified rating system). Some enter a new culture with curiosity and openness (which is mandatory in my opinion because Japan has a distinctly homogeneous population, not as multicultural as Europe or the USA, you can’t just hide in your national community bubble there). They usually find access to the country and the people, and then there are these a**h**** who go to East Asia with a western superiority mentality. With this mindset, they then reference everything they encounter with their western counterparts - which of course are superior - unable to grasp the cultural peculiarities from a neutral and unprejudiced perspective. These expats neither have been able to integrate into the society there nor were able to build friendship with the people, also let alone by the often sophisticated Japanese women who tend to have a good sensitivity for condescending Westerners. These usually leave Japan in anger and with contempt because they couldn't land with the people and in the believe that Asians are just too stupid to recognize the glory of the West - sarcasm off. Finn unfortunately seems to be one of those, I can literally see him in front of me in Tokyo. Interesting, that he was apparently married to a Vietnamese woman and should learned something about different cultural approaches, or do I just smell the rancid smell of a fetish here. I notice that I feel personally attacked also on behalf of my friends and artists in and from the Far East, which is not a good starting point for a sober view and I'm aware that it smells suspiciously like unscientific kitchen table psychology, but I had so many flashbacks regarding my time in Japan in those 25 minutes of projection and nonsense bull**** it was unpleasant. And he has no idea what he's talking about, but at least with conviction LOL. Forgive me my rant, I couldn’t hold it back 😕

just a word from someone who can't play music, but was listening to hard rock and heavy metal since their beginning. my personal favorites are led zeppelin, and metallica. those i listened to the most. i became involve in bandmaid jusy over a year ago, and thrill was the first song i heard. absolutely surprised. for whatever reason, they reminded of LZ. i was hooked ever since. let me say here that i had never even heard of japanese rock before this. after listing to baby metal, i decided i t wasn,t for me. so i moved on to lovebites. absolutely blown away. there are several other bands ive heard and like, but i'll always be a maidiac and a member of the wolfpack, i watched most of your video and enjoyed your comments. just me, but to be an honest reactor, you gotta know something about music. keep it guys

I always appreciate your program! - Having been a Japanese living in North America for 33 years… I can tell right away Finn has a specific image of one small segment of Japan, and believe all Japanese are like that. I feel sorry for him that he had not been able to see the more representative side of Japanese, which thankfully you folks see. When you hear a guy say he has been to Japan and could at one time read Hiragana, Katakana, it’s like saying,”I’ve been to the US and was at one time able to recognize the alphabet.” big deal! If he believes just listening to the music, it would not be impressive, have some other professional musicians (like you folks) listen to some pieces from Unseen World, or Babymetal, and more recently Asterism. Then show them the music with visuals and have a honest discussion. I feel he will be totally out-voiced. BTW, I really enjoyed Alan’s very first reaction to “Road of Resistance” where Eric called you “that’s X-ing racist” I’m so thankful you are not! I was at Band-Maid’s live in DC Oct.25, looked for Ryan, but could no find you. Please keep up the great programming all! "po"

Maturity in music appreciation requires goes beyond language and listening to the composition, and as others have pointed out, listening to the vocals, sung in another language, as an instrument. A good/great vocalist conveys the emotion of the words using vocal techniques of dynamics, phrasing, and volume (example - Saiki - Band-Maid - and the song Puzzle). That racist idiot Finn did not take the time to examine what he was supposedly 'discussing' which is plain sloppy. Like many, I previously did not listen to rock music from other countries because "I couldn't understand the lyrics." This is funny because I would listen to classic music in languages I didn't understand but enjoyed it. All it takes is an open mind to explore something different and in doing so treasures are found.

What throws people off about Japanese music is the vocal melodies. They are so strong. It sounds ridiculous at first. I hated Japanese singing for a long long time. But now that is the best part. I love the vocals. It takes some getting used to. Westerners go through that with Anime songs. They hate it the first time they hear it but eventually they love it. They think it's because they like the anime but it doesn't work that way. I like Twin Peaks a lot and I still absolutely hate the music.

I don't even know where to start with this. My brother once asked would I still listen to BAND-MAID if they weren't hot Japanese chicks. And I had to think for a while. Early on when I didn't know many songs, maybe not. But the more songs I dug the more songs I listened to and it snowballed form there. Their like KISS. Is there a visual aspect to the band, but that's just a bonus. The music would still be great music if I was blindfolded. But they're fun to watch! Not only that it's fun to watch other people watch them. How many people in the world have never seen KISS? I'm sure there's a few, but millions have, and not nearly as many as have never see BAND-MAID. Can you imagine someone who started with KISS Unmasked and didn't know about the makeup or pyrotechnics., and then found out, would they like them less? Maybe someone first caught BAND-MAID on their Christmas show, and like them just for that. They they saw them with electric instruments and costumes and lasers. Isn't that a bonus?

They would be booed and chased off the stage in cities like LA, Dallas, Chicago, Houston, NY. Those cites will eat you alive if you are not any good. I seriously doubt Jimmy Page would go out of his way to see them, ask to meet them, and ask for a photo with and pay Akane such a huge compliment. Well, I've never heard of this Finn guy before so I popped over to his channel to see what he's about. Only took one vid. It was titled "Best rock and metal albums of 2021" fully a third of which weren't rock or metal. He put an album on his list that he said he didn't like but included them because he knew the band and expected better of them next time. I guess he misunderstood the "of 2021" part of his own title. Then he gooshed over an Olivia Rodrigo vid which was basically pop with a little fuzz on the guitars while extolling that young women doing rock were going to "save our genre" while they were dancing around in tight-fitting cheerleader outfits in a gymnasium with what appeared to be a very leaky roof. But apparently I'm the one with the fetish? He'd also never heard of Måneskin which has a pretty big following so... he's an rock culture expert, I guess? My take here is that he's a "tuber with some industry connections and basically shills for the established american music producers while shitting on everybody else because his buddies don't like the competition. I put Beato in the same category but cut him some slack because it's hard to embrace something new when your arteries have started hardening. (Okay, that was pretty snarky but I'm a geezer too and we get that way sometimes) Plus I learned a lot from his channel so, there's that.

Great video, guys. (Sorry I'm late to the party; I just discovered Band Maid and J-Rock overall at the end of June.) Anyway, I think you pretty much said everything that could be said and were spot on, but I still wanted to comment. OK, Where do I even start with this guy? From what I can tell he's a self-styled Robert Christgau (a "final boss" douchebag in his own right) wannabe. I mean, calling yourself "The Punk Rock MBA" isn't too far removed from Christgau's self-appointed "Dean of American Rock Critics" title, is it? The 1st video I ever saw from him was one where he talked about how pretentious heavy metal and progressive rock fans are, and how they gatekeep music. Being a metal and prog rock fan myself I obviously took issue with this, especially seeing as how he named his channel after the genre of music that basically invented the term "sell out". I mean, how hypocritical can you get? Now, to be fair, in his video, he actually did briefly allude to the irony of a punk rock fan calling this behavior out, but he made it equally clear that - objectively speaking - metal and prog fans were far more guilty of pretension and gate-keeping than punk rockers ever were. So, I called him out for this in the comments, and his response to me was something along the lines of "My guy, if you had watched, you'd know I admitted to this." Sure, but like I said before, he downplayed it, and in my view, as soon as you call yourself "The Punk Rock MBA", you've forfeited any right you have to call anyone else "pretentious". For the record, I don't have anything against Punk. I like some of it and I even used to play in a punk band. But the day I saw that video I realized that Finn is pretty much a mental midget. Seeing his reaction to J-Rock and his incredibly baseless and shallow (not to mention racist) critiques makes me realize I was right

In my experience, As a man from Southeast Asia (Malaysian) and playing as a guitarist with a punk rock band and having played with them on the same stage there are many Asian countries such as Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan, Korea, China, we're all friends, and we also speak in broken english, sometimes we don't have to talk to them, just act on them so they understand it, it's a funny and fun experience, I don't have any negative experience with them, it's just fun hahahaha ok stop here, the punk sound actually came from America, and a lot of punk bands from Asia started worshiping American punk, but Japan started making a new punk music sound in general, until it exploded and became something that we can all say is very creative and beautiful , and also because of that all the young people of the 90s (not the old people who really worship American punk) like un to worship Japanese punk because it's different from the norm, so my conclusion is, music is not something that we all need to be in a bubble... it's just something far from that, that makes us open our minds, and become more mature as a human being and as a musician

Behind any dislike is some sort of prejudice, either a direct or an indirect one. And most of the times the indirect ones are more harmful, because we are not really conscious of them and so no self cenzorship is apllied. This politic of no prejudice merly shifts the balance in the favour of the indirect ones, so naturaly, people like him do manifest themself. The same thing goes for biasses too, as we do favour one thing over the other based on our subjectivity. For example: Saiki gets more points from me then other singers, just for holding the mike in her left hand and her interaction is with the right one, as most of the comunication between people is trough body language, she conveys more like this (at least for me).And I can give you alot of other examples like this. Will the music be less good without this type of examples? Certainly not, but do add to it. While we do have professions like art critic, wery few of them are good at their job and know how to analyze something from more then one or two perspectives. Obvously his video has no value, you only risk falling in the same trap as he does.

Would I be moved all the same if someone else would say it, a non-Japanese person? I don't know. Because it's not only the words but the insight conveyed through music as well-and, ultimately, your whole life. If you say "Peace is the path," and you want your words to change the world, you yourself must be an embodiment of both The Peace and The Path. The Mighty Pigeon is the embodiment of both, and the living proof of it is BAND-MAID itself, because they are united as the fingers of one hand, and they press forward on their path to world domination, through thick and thin, no matter what obstacles they stumble upon. Who else in the world has said and done it? Nothing but sighs. Such a pain! A ti ti ti… What is flaming? Ta ta ta ta… Troll face

Well said, Vladimir!! My oldest memory is seeing The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show when they first came to the US. I grew up with all the great music of the 60’s & 70’s. My oldest brother brought home Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, Deep Purple Machine Head, Uriah Heep The Wizard while the radio played Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Led Zeppelin, CSN&Y, The Doobie Brothers, etc…and yet Motown was just a slight twist of the dial for Marvin Gaye, Ben E Smith, Aretha Franklin, etc…another twist to the Eagles, America, Neil Young’s Harvest or John Lennon’s Imagine. Then I went heavier with Black Sabbath, Steppenwolf, Judas Priest and onto a 40 year obsession with the music of Rush. And 80’s pop & hair metal, 90’s grunge and lots of good stuff since. And even some classical Beethoven, Bach & Schubert, for good measure. I’ll be damned if anybody tells me that I can’t like the music of Band-Maid or I don’t hear and feel it’s excellence. That I’m not uplifted by it or moved to tears by it - or simply amazed by how incredibly good it is to my ears. Screw that dude…whoever he is 🤷🏻‍♂️🤘🏼😎

"3rd". I hope people see the absurd irony in that. When Vladimir articulates into words with heartfelt sincerity & no prejudices how he actually feels about B-M & their wider influence it makes me proud to be associated with him (in however a small way). His Miku lyric breakdown vid was one of the most interesting threads i've ever been on & covered such topics as theism, Rinne, & the concept of wabi sabi. There is nothing lightweight or vacuous about BAND-MAID & I've never visited Finn's channel. I wouldn't grace him with my presence I'd feel dirty & tainted :)

@@GaryHolloway-810 Thanks for your kind words, Gary. I think POGO! lyrics indeed speak of such people. I really don't understand what pleasure these guys find in throwing shit at the artists. Miku does not show it often, but these words about "Troll Face" have really struck me as a glimpse of what she really feels. It's not from manga she was reading, not from a movie she has seen. It's from her reading the twits from disgruntled "fans" who tell her that she is a fake guitarist and her Flappy Pigeon is a fake guitar. Our girls are not immune from trolls, of course. They try to keep away from them as much as possible. And we know that there are literally only two or three people out there who come to the comments and vent their sick feelings on us. So, it seems the Japanese approach actually works well. I mean, the approach when the artists don't really communicate with the fans. When Miku liked Peter Lim's twit with his amazing collage, he was in the seventh heaven. But she deigned to react openly, I think, only because Peter Lim is not a regular fan anymore in her mind, since he was doing all those designs for Herman Li/Miku/Kanami interview. People are still full of pent-up aggression, many of them. Just yesterday I conversed with one lady in the chat, who was calling on the world to destroy that 15-year-old boy who won the carting competition and waved his hand in a gesture that looked like a Nazi greeting. He apologized afterwards, and he was almost crying, saying that he is not a Nazi, and he did not mean anything like that. It was just a gesture of a sort "from my heart to you." But no, she said, it looked exactly like a Nazi greeting, and now this boy must be destroyed because, you know, zero tolerance for Nazi gestures. It's absolute madness, what's happening in the world right now. I have shown her that photo of Kanami raising her right hand in a gesture that looks like showing a middle finger. We know that it looks so because she holds a pick, and her index finger is bent because of that. I tried to explain to her who Kanami is, that in Japan, showing the middle finger is not a widespread gesture, it's almost unknown among the general population and people don't use it this way. I even gave her a link to that funny video of "Kanami of BAND-MAID from the Future," and explained a little bit of Kanami's background. No, she was adamant. The middle finger is the middle finger, any person in the audience who sees it, must immediately fight back and trample this girl guitarist into dust. I think many fans of Japanese music actually fetishize these Japanese people because the Japanese music scene is an oasis of purity in the wilderness of modern desolation. We thirsted for years for something like this, a band playing energetic music, but not oozing hate and disgust. It's a unique phenomenon indeed. We all need some positive role models, and those Japanese musicians provide them to us. So, yes, I do fetishize them.

I do think by Band-Maid being "worst" he meant in terms of being all about the image, rather than musically. Unfortunately, he just kind of made an assumption about the appeal, and that was the end of the mental journey. With every band mentioned being judged on their aesthetic above all else, the impression I get is that the look of a band/singer is very important to him, and Japanese bands just don't fit the look of what he thinks is correct, e.g. what American bands are doing now. His take on what Rock needs to do to become mainstream again seemed to be based largely on them changing their image and sound, to be like rappers, or maybe being like BMTH. A lot of his similar videos about older bands heavily feature the line "this isn't what the cool kids were listening to" as if that matters. I feel he's more into 'scenes' than the music, especially stuff those 'cool kids' listen to.

I will not give him a moment of my time or help him in any way. It was clear from the outset that he wanted to trash Japanese music by going after the most reacted to bands coming out of Japan to offend as many people as possible and get them to stop asking him about Japanese music. He is not the first reactor to do this.

Band-Maid aren't my favourite band by any stretch, but I think they're excellent musicians and song-writers, just a lot of what they do doesn't grab me for some reason. It seems Finn hasn't grasped that "not to my taste" =/= "objectively bad". Really, calling Band-Maid objectively bad (yes even for Thrill, the video's pretty awkward and I know they didn't write it, but the playing, riffs and hook are great) simply demonstrate that the person saying it has zero ability for musical discernment and can be safely ignored. Is Finn Mckenty the one who runs The Punk Rock MBA channel? I have seen a number of videos from that channel recommended to me over the last few years and never bothered based purely based on the thumbnail/titles alone and always skipped clicking on them. If that is the case it seems my thumbnail based discernment was on point as he clearly has not one iota of value to say on anything related to music, which is ironic for someone who runs a channel dedicated to talking about music.

If there's one thing I like about Japanese music culture, it's that metal seems to be something they use a lot and you can see it in all kinds of bands. The idols bish, bis, ladybaby, mad jamie, miscast, momoiro clover z, etc. They have songs with heavy or rock styles and that is not found in many other places, I can think of dreamcatcher from Korea. If someone liked babymetal, it is logical that they look for music from Japan because the kawaii metal style is not made in another country, maybe some attempt like Poppy's. Another difference with the rest of the world is that many of the most famous metal bands in Japan are female. Maybe that youtuber didn't listen to unlucky morpheous, lovebites, mai yajima, lightbringer, galneryus... Saying that you can't say that band maid is a good band is a bit pretentious, the same could be said of madonna, the beatles, the rolling stones... I don't like those bands but I'm not going to say that people listen to them just because they're from England. Another thing, generally, women who are in a Japanese metal band are much less sexualized than western metal bands. There are many arguments to refute what that person said, but I guess the only thing he was looking for was to generate controversy for the views... and he surely did it.

As if this society doesn't already have enough people who think their opinion is the only true one. The clips from this video alone are enough to make me want to vomit. Unfortunately, he picked Band-Maid as an example, but actually he describes a much more general attitude with this video. He has been to Japan, watched anime and even learned the language a bit to understand it? Sorry, but then I can only get the impression that this guy has been brainwashed to the max, or something happened that has caused quite a hatred of the Asian culture. And Ryan's reference to the fact that he liked very specific comments only emphasizes that from my point of view. Kudos to you guys for not losing your sense of humor on the subject. I have quite a bit of trouble with that, and not just as a fan of the Maids. ----------- 「 _'Our rock never dies ever. Forever!'_ 」 --- from *BAND-MAID* 'Manners' 🕊️
