@@TheGrumpyNerd Maybe something has changed. There are so many reactions to their videos. The big surprise TBH is that they let these live videos stay up. They are all taken from a DVD they sell. So it just seems like they want as much of this out there as possible. Which is Totally the opposite of most of the Japanese bands out there. Many reactors get in trouble for various J-rock/metals bands, but I don't think I've seen one have a problem with Band-Maid before.

first time I've heard of someone getting Copyright Claim by their music! Their music definitely has a crazy range from more poppy to pretty heavy. Even if you can't reacted definitely check out some of their other music off camera. I always suggest Rock in Me, simply because it gives you the taste of some of the more goofy/fun side of the band and even through its more pop then most besides like Start Over, but that has a story/reason behind why its different then their other songs. As for Rock in Me, it gives Miku some spotlight as it feels like she doesn't get as much in some of the other live videos. Also, the song Onset is always a must!

Band-Maid fans or Band-Maidiacs are hardcore and passionate people. I drove down from Sacramento to LA for their show at the Echoplex on September 30th. That's 369 miles each way and that was nothing. Spent the day in line and l got to meet several folks l interact with on social media. There were folks there from Seattle, Phoenix, NYC, Texas, Concord and l know Dave flew in from Australia just for the two shows. Band-Maid's show had zero publicity. Even the marquee at the Echoplex was empty. There were no flyers or posters for the event and yet they had zero problem selling out a total of 1700 tickets for the two shows. This is a live band that must be seen live to fully appreciate their amazing chops. Arguably MISA is among the best bassist working anywhere today. Akane, the drummer, made such an impression on Jimmy Page that after he watched the band perform in Tokyo in 2016 he requested to meet with her. The selfie they took is my screen saver. And lead guitarist Kanami. Well just watch her play and decide for yourself. With about 90 songs in their catalog in six years (new album Conqueror out this December) there is no shortage of great music. And since Alone they write, arrange and perform their own original music. The maid attire that is currently worn by three members is Miku's old work uniform at Maid Cafés where she wound up working after failing to break into the JPOP idol scene. So she forms her own rock band and this is the result. BTW when Miku formed the idea to present as Maid Cafés employees she was looking for the "gap". She wanted people to look at them, form an opinion and then blow them away with blistering rock n roll. Imagine. Rock n roll has been saved for Western civilization by five beautiful and talented ladies from Japan. Regards.

As much as I agree with most of what you wrote these girls are not alone. There are three younger sisters from Mexico closing in. 😉 In this video you can see the opening track on their latest album *Queen Of The Murder Scene* vimeo.com/309137588 Alejandra/Ale on bass was just 13 years old in this recording, sister Paulina/Pau ( _who is singing while drumming here_ ), was 16 years old and oldest sister Daniela/Dany ( _normally lead singer_ ) on guitar was 18 at the time. They have +30 originals and are independent and get support from 600 Patreons. They perform live like crazy. Channel: kzfaq.info/love/eZHVOA5rP9rHoa7zKCx7kQ

This song is the highlight of their live shows. The crowd (including myself) was going nuts during this song, jumping around into each other, doing the chorus, headbanging, and just generally being hyped, and that was even at the end of a 2 hour set. If you want more of the live stuff, check out Don't You Tell Me for some crazy solo action and if you're a metal fan, you're going to want to hit up Domination, DICE, and Real Existence for their studio stuff.

You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the cross over of genres, it's why I love em. Such an interesting mix, alternative pop vocals with melodic heavy rock/metal/funk instrumentation, lots of time changes, short solos, it's all very tight. They can melt your heart and your eardrums at the same time.

A year ago when I heard them for the first time I immediately searched for US shows. BAM! I had but weeks to wait to drive but 20 miles to see them. Yes, they are amazing live. They do these tiny little venues, so I got there, crawled to the front and hung on for dear life to the railing just in front of the bassist. First show I've been to in decades. Just saw them again a few weeks ago. So happy I've found them. Totally re-invigorated my love of music and playing drums!

Dude, what you said about the song sounded like a mixture of different bands totally nails it. I'm a new fan of Band-Maid for 3 months now. Saw them the first time in KZfaq performing live in Summersonic back in August. Since then, I've listened to all their songs. To be honest, listening to metal for almost 20 years, this is one of a truly unique band Iv'e discovered in this decade. Genre wise, I think it's a great move for them to just categorize themselves as playing Hard Rock rather than specifying a metal subgenre. They really pull it off by infusing bits and pieces of different heavy metal influences. Highly recommend for you to watch all their live performance. These girls play harder on stage than some of the metal bands nowadays.

To "get" what they are doing requires multiple views to appreciate the high technical level they are performing at. I have heard a few more than most of you, I'm 71 and remember Elvis's debut on TV. Other than a few "supergroups" in the 70's & 80's I know of no current band with same depth of talent and if there are they are likely Asian. As for your next reaction Puzzle live and Puzzle acoustic, again skill and talent.

This is probably their most metal-influenced song. Their songs are primarily international style hard rock with elements from things like punk and metal, plus a lot of musical details in fills, transitions and such. Also, they usually put in good melodies and catchy choruses which is rarely found in hard rock, and that is probably inspired not by pop but by classic melodic rock (even if the result is not really that) since the lead guitarist and main songwriter is fan of such bands as Santana. Like the interesting "gap" between their cute maid(ish) outfits and their hard-hitting rock, there is also a gap between the hard rock and the catchy and/or melodic parts.

And another stunned reactor joins the fray! This is one of their heavier tracks. You seem to be into more of metal than hard rock. Be aware that they are more of a hard rock band than metal most of the time. They do mix genres in a lot of their songs and they are very talented all the way around, so there is always something in their songs to be interested in. They run the range from heavier to straight up pop, even a bit of jazz now and then. They have a huge catalog that will be even larger come December when the new album, "Conqueror" drops!

All the members of Band Maid except the pigeon have very strong academic musical training and are multi instrumentalists. "The Dragon Cries", the song from new album ("CONQUEROR", it will appeared on December 11), produced by Tony Visconti, a famous American producer of records among the others of David Bowie, was pre-released on music subscription services (Spotify, iTunes) on November 20 (00;01 local time). Band Maid probably never recorded such a slow and at the same time such a heavy song. MISA`s bass sound like a step of a giant dragon, walking majestically and hammer you into the ground. Madness. If there will be no MV, I would be very surprised. The whole text is sung in English. One thing is certain, I would love this sound engineering and mixing to apply to all Band Maid songs! Now you can listen to it on Spotify - open.spotify.com/album/0maJxZBs1zieTVKbptV2Sk

I don't know how you reactors can control yourselves and keep from running out and buying every last album you can find. It took me but hours after hearing the first song from them before I'd bought 3 albums on iTunes. My FIRST iTunes purchase EVER, and only because it was the quickest way to get every song onto my phone. But you are now hearing what they are so good at. Fantastic hook, amazing Riff with catchiness through the whole thing. The catchy aspect of this is what makes it so listenable despite it not being in English. That's the poppyness you're hearing I think. If you haven't heard, there are no bad songs from them. They differ from each other, but when anyone asks what my favorite is, my answer is always the same: "whichever one is playing right now." If you liked Moratorium, I might hit Domination next: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qcl2nNOctre0goE.html Or Non-Fitcion Days kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7GjfNqIqqmXoYU.html But also take a moment to take in the visual Kawaii (cute) element of the performance. The official videos are best for this. And also be aware that many of the best bands out of Japan are these girl dominated bands. Aldious, Bridear, Asterism, Doll$Box, Lovebites, D_Drive and so many others. They all maintain stunningly high tempos, precission and fill their music with phenomenal musicianship and shredding.

If you want dark and a little heavier, but with similar genre-bending styles as Band Maid, try Dir En Grey. They will blow your mind. I'd start with Diabolos, Vinushka or Macabre and do live version of each.

Head over to some traditional Japanese Shimasen players. The technical proficiency is baked into the culture, and the structures of a lot of the prog/rock/metal material coming out of Japan make a lot more sense when you listen/watch traditional string instruments. Styles, tempo, and technique seem to roll into each other. Japan appropriates a ton of musical culture from The West, so you get this heady crush of genre and style when amplified like this. Found these folks surfing YT a couple months ago, along with Ningen Isu and Number Girl (def check out Number Girl)
