I live in Toledo, OH. We are at the western tip of Lake Erie. The wind was so strong recently, that it pushed the water away from Toledo to the eastern part of the lake, which would be Buffalo, NY. I don't know what happened in Buffalo, but we saw the lake bed on our end.

Betsy you are probably doing combination knitting for regular 1x1 ribbing. Combination is different than twisted stitches, because usually you purl through the back loop but since you wrap your yarn clockwise as you purl, the stitch is mounted with the right leg in the back. For twisted stitches ribbing, you simply knit the knit stitches through the back loop and you can still do combination knitting, usually it makes a tighter fabric if you also purl through the back loop, it is a bit less stretchy. Great sunsets !!!

I love the chat about the weather. I live in the north of New Zealand and summer has just arrived as well. 25-30 degrees C and 80%+ humidity. We really are becoming tropical. One difference this year is that we are having lots of rain. It’s too hot to knit.

OMG! 😅 Y'all r too much. Tell Simone she is ruining the grade curve, A+😊. Betsy is catching up and I empathize with her. She's asking great questions. Ones that I would ask a "senior knitter".😊 Kim I'm 🙏 for u.😅 I really like the variety of knitters on ur pod. I also like they r there for most of the pod. Kim, u r doing a great job. U r surrounded with talent and that's a blessing (sometimes a curse). Thanks for sharing.Thanks for sharing.

I like to get my knitting and sit and watch your latest podcast, invariably I find I have a big smile on my face. Love your conversations. Betsy I knit my 1x1 rib the same way as you, the purls wrapped clockwise. It’s not twisting the rib because on the next row the knit stitches are knit through the back leg, that straightens it out. I would love to see how you knit your stranded knitting flat. I am also a thrower or English knitter. I can knit two handed stranded on the public side doing a continental Norwegian knit stitch but I can’t do a Norwegian purl so end up using my right hand English knitting for the purls. I really find it cumbersome and I am not that happy with my tension. Your tension on that square you made for the throw you and Simone are designing looked perfect. Would love to hear a bit more about that . Cheers!

I'm just pausing the video...when Betsy talks about winding the wool around the needle clockwise on the purl sts in ribbing...I believe it may be called combination knitting. I do most of my ribbing this way now, I love it. It does twist the stitch, and you will end up purling through the back loop on subsequent rows...but it's really not a big deal, and starts to feel natural.

I can support your comment on ChiaGoo Kim. I have the Forte original set and did have a problem with the twist wires and a broken needle. They replaced the needles and when they knew I didn’t like the twist wires they sent me a complete set of the red wires. Within a week ! Definitely a fan and the set is beautiful.

I always knitted twisted stitches and could never understand why my knitting never looked like someone else’s….ahaaa ha..I had no idea what I was doing when I started knitting. Those sunsets would make a lovely colour way for yarn. The sunset point prim addition perhaps?

I love top down sweater patterns. But I always divide for sleeves where ot suits me and then let the motifs keep going on the body and sleeves separated. It works very well and I get a sweater adjusted to my body.

If you knit rib normally then turn it inside out, you have twisted rib. i.e if you look at the reverse side of normal rib knitting, its twisted rib. Its good the Chia Goo have 3.25mm. That size is being phased out by a lot of needle manufacturers.

After hours of analyzing Jamieson's Spindrift colors to see about substitutions for a Marie Wallin pattern, I turn on the podcast, and what should Simone be wearing but the very same sweater! I was so tickled I had to comment even before I watched the episode, which I have no doubt will be as inspiring as ever. Agree with the person who commented on the energy of the three of you and format of the show. It must take a ton of work, so sincere thanks to you all!

Loved this episode! I was giggling in places. Your chestnut cardigan is beautiful Simone. And your miss matched socks are pretty. You never could wear matching socks! lol! Mom always had things "just for good" and I do the same thing. Betsy, your hat and mitts are beautiful! I was telling Simone the other day that those colors and pattern would make a beautiful cardigan. I wish we had the snow we had when I was a kid. We don't get any snow now compaired to what we got back then.

The purl stitch wrapped the other way is in Patty Lyons book. It works well with ribbing, when purl stitches follow cables and in lace. It’s how a purl is formed in combination knitting. That book is such a good resource.

Betsy, a friend of mine had very good luck translating a Norwegian knitting pattern with Google Translate. The secret, she found, was to paste a whole swath of text in at one time, rather than a word or a sentence at a time. Context tends to increase its accuracy, apparently. Maybe that will help a bit?
@bigblackdogfiberarts
@bigblackdogfiberarts 6 ай бұрын
Betsy, Translate doesn't speak Norwegian crochet, either. Ask me know I know. hahaha Kim, for the little 9" needles, I've noticed that I knit a whole lot tighter on them than I would if I were using a larger needle, 2 circs, magic loop or dpns. I mean significantly smaller gauge. 2 needles sizes or more. 😬 I'm sure you know this, but before you get too far, make sure your sleeve gauge will match the body. Grins!

Great episode Ladies...and Ken. Betsy, I learned purling left to right when i first started knitting 17 yrs ago when i couldn't get my ribbing tight enough. This little trick ( throwing yarn over needle left to right instead of throwing it right to left over needle)made my ribbing so much nicer looking. Didnt know there was a name for it😊Now i do Norwegian purling which has been a game changer when doing ribbing. So much faster.🥰🇨🇦Sharon.

I love all the projects so cool. I'm knitting my second Night Shift in sport weight, shop bought yarn, but am spinning for the hand spun version hopefully this year or surely next year. It is a much loved shawl for me, perfect in my Australian winter, not too big and heavy. I just keep knitting the pattern until its the size I want. Such absolutely beautiful skies.

"In a tree, on a branch, in a hole." 🤣 Is Betsy's cardigan from a pattern? It wasn't included in what everyone was wearing (I'm on the hunt for cardigan patterns right now). I can vouch for ChiaoGoo's customer service. I had an interchangeable needle that wouldn't screw into the cord properly, and they replaced the one bad needle with a pair of new ones, very promptly.
