No Start Troubleshooting 5 Volt Reference Dodge Grand Caravan (EGR Shorted Replaced)

Max Rebo our 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan left me stuck on the side of the road. I do not usually have this happen but I did not have any tools or a meter with me to do any troubleshooting. Believe it or not I had to take the ride of shame with the van on the back of a rollback tow truck. Watch as we track down the problem and fix it.

I have a very similar problem with a 2006 dodge grand caravan but sum time it wont start but sum times it will and the 5v ref will go out when the van does start i also noticed if i erased the codes the van starts fineee could it be the same problem your having with the van u are working on?

Also do i have to prob the cam sensor or can i prob liek the map sensor or another sensor with 5v ref

@jjbossshtx that does not really sound like the problem I had. I would loose 5v and it would not start. Even with clearing the codes it would still not have 5v ref and would not start. If you suspect the EGR valve is shorted just unplug it and see if it starts and you have the 5v ref. It will throw a code but you will know what direction to go. @jjbosshtx I forgot what sensors are on that 5v circuit. If I had to guess I used the cam and crank sensor because they are on the same circuit that had a problem. Do a search for a electrical schematic for the year model and engine you have. Happy wrenching! ~Mr. C.
