Tether car racing at the top level runs the 80/20 methanol castor fuel only, that is in monster 10cc glow engines.

So found 5 gallons of VP methanol M1 $61.00 for 5 gallons. Then use the Klotz Super Techniplate $25.00 a Qt. Trying to follow your videos, I know you say just buy premade stuff, but I’d like to try this myself. Now my tmaxx 2.5 has been a champ for 3 straight years on my VP 20/9 fuel, I have not touched the carb since 3 years back, it’s been set it and forget it. I assume that would change? Live here in Arkansas. Summers get nasty here soon. Thanks man. Enjoy your content btw.

Sounds like a good deal. Run an os lc3 glow plug and you want 10% oil by volume i Believe that's 12.8oz fluid ounces. and it will take a little adjustment as is with any fuel %%% you switch to. It might be a little more sensitive but because you have the best methanol quality it should be fine

update! IT WORKS! bought the methanol 100% got the klotz benol racing castor oil mixed 20% to start off car runs just fine with cool blue smoke across the lawn .

We used to run glow engines off 99% isopropyl alcohol with 20% castor oil. The pharmacy special. Ran just fine, we just added a head shim per 10% in nitro once that was an option.

@@thebug4046 we had problems keeping the castor oil dissolved, had to shake the crap out of it. I tried to find the engine we were doing it with, I remember a heck of a deposit build up as we didn't have the degummed castor. You'd have to wire brush clean the bore as the piston would stick overtime. These were steel piston, cylinder and rods. Your video makes me want yo go back and try again. This was on much lower compression airplane motors, maybe that was the difference?

Other fact helps in cold weather to start I live in Canada in cold weather I only use 10 to 15% nitro I already do this little thing that saves me a lot I use the same oil very good product keeps the engine clean the mixture 50% sintetique 50% castor oil klotz benol is perfect for old engine without bering with plain bearing made of brass it is better

@@thebug4046 Me on my French side of Canada In Quebec it's very cold during the winter I use very small engines around .o49 to .o10 size in extreme cold the smaller it is more difficult to start we have to keep it hot I am used to making my own diesel and nitro fuel also I use gasoline for 2-stroke engine in a engine it works but not efficient I made a video of that

I & other rc airplane lovers use only methanol & castor oil since the late of 70s...because nitro methane is not available here in Baghdad & the hot weather...we fly only from late of September to the mid of April..but I re assemble the engine after 3hours of running because of the gummy effect of the oil so cleaing must be done all the season of flying

I guess the only real nitro engines in the purest sense are Top Fuel rail (or bike) engines. And they are interesting too as they start on methanol and switch over to nitro prior to a run. They practically self destruct as they run though lol. Some guys have converted their glow engines to petrol (gas for you guys?) by installing spark plugs and CDI. That would be an interesting video (wink wink nudge nudge). As always, keep up the great work!! 😎🇦🇺

It's designed for all 2 stoke engines big or small just so happens its also made for rc engines to just make sure to read the instructions! Very important! And it can separate in cold weather do not use in oil injection systems

Great video. Out of curiosity, why do airplanes run different nitro and oil ratios? I imagine part of it is because they run more lean higher up in the air?

Altitude change compression ratio the type of carburetor that is used they also run a lot less nitro because they swing a prop that will change how fast the fuel burns and The last thing you want is detonation really old plane bearing engines need around 20 to 25% oil to keep them alive most modern ABC airplane engines will be just fine around 16 to 18% oil

What do you use to clean your engines? They are always super clean. I just picked up a rs4 type ss off of eBay and it has a k12 in it. Never heard of it but I guess it’s a nova based engine. Would like to clean it up since it still has good compression

K12 is a nova it is the same as a nova cx12 those motors rip I had one in my RC10GT, had 8 gallons sold it going strong!

If yours has a rotary carb then this should save you some trouble, the factory setting for the high needle is 5 turns out, the low is 3 1/2 turns out, and the idle gap should be set to 0.6mm good luck!!

I buy the crappy tyre methyl hydrate and mix Sig Castor oil in it. I believe if it will run in my Saito four strokes, it will run in anything.

You can get it here but it's a lot of paperwork and it's really expensive so it's not worth it it cost over $100 per gallon or pier Nitro methane and then about $80 for a drum of math and then another 100 for the oil like 300$ to make 4 gallons

@@thebug4046 , it's $90 a gallon for turco pure nitromethane, for every liter/quart of Methanol you have to add 8.4 oz. Very dangerous stuff- invisible flame, can start with static electricity. I wouldn't suggest smoking a cigarette. Lol. Thanks again for great info!

It's no more dangerous then mixing a gallon of gallon for your weed eater. Actually gasoline Vapor is more dangerous. It really comes down to common sense haha

Definitely interesting info great content had question on compression recently pick up some Xtm mammoths with the 24.7 one engine that’s currently running had no shim and the other which was locked up but freed up has 1 shim on would I be damaging the one with no shim if I run it that way ? Such thing as to much compression? 🤯 usually just run Vp racing 25%

I would call it methanol engine, because "glow" engines could be both methanol and gasoline. I have gasoline engines running glow plugs. For example OS GGT 10 and Evolution 10gx are airplane gas engines running on glow plugs.

I wonder why Ethanol didn't work for you. Where I live (germany) it's illegal to ship Ethanol to private entities, so some companies started making "Bio-Nitro" fuel, which is basically the same mix but with Ethanol instead of Methanol. Only thing is that you basically need to preheat the engine otherwise it's harder to start. Only thing I could imagine is that it needs the nitro more than the Ethanol. Are there any other Methanol substitutes you tried? Methanol is about 2-4 years away from getting outlawed (at least for private entities) here and is already a pain to get (very expensive and only sold by people with 3 years of training, etc.), so having a cheap alternative for my basher engines would be great.

The reason for it not working is the glow plug doesn't want to react with that kind of alcohol it will kind of work but not very well and the oil doesn't mix very well with it seems to float on top for some reason methanol is what's needed for the platinum to keep burning its easy to get if you look in the right places

@@kittyhawk9886 with ethanol the carburetor has to be set up right because it burns even different then methanol. Just burns 80/20 or normal 5% nitro in your airplanes. The ethanol has a very short shelf life and not all oils will mix or it will go bad and the oil will float out they had special engines just for it they also had very high compression ratios. Not really worth all the messing around. I have tested it lots and you will never win

Poor quality Ingredients a ton of added dye to Stain engine parts inconsistent tuning small tuning window runs hotter and leaner because of its very high oil in it at 18% its also more corrosive more oil isn't always good it's actually harder on your engine if you stick with a good quality fuel like a 20/9 or 30/9 mix you will see a massive difference in tuning performance and longevity

i found a suppler VP Racing ,they have 20% RC nitro fuel very expensive! but they also have this stuff called "M1 Racing Methanol has a 99.95% minimum purity" 39$ for a 5 gallon can very cheap is this OK to make 0% nitro fuel like your formula?

It will make no difference in engine life lack of tuning and Improper brake in will keep in mind nitromethane is not a lubricant this is just like 2 stroke gas the oil in the fuel is the lubricant

Lol the nitro IS needed I mix fuel for a living and nitro stabilizes the combustion. You can run two strokes on wd40 doesn't mean you should.

Nope. you can buy 0% nitro at the hobby store all nitro engines originally ran on only methanol and castor oil aka glow fuel. Witch is only w ingredients. what makes up the bulk of the fuel. Aad holds the catalytic reaction with the platinum on the coil in the glow plug. Any engine can run on 0% nitro. In fact in cone racing they are restricted to only 0% nitro. They only started adding nitromethane in the mid 70s and a lot of Countries where nitro is illegal they burn 0% lol and running engines on WD40? I have tried and it barely ignites in normal gasoline engines. As it's mostly light Petroleum solvents similar to kerosene. Lol
