So to summarize; The Lion Tutules didn't make humans into Elemental Benders, they made Fire Throwers, Earth Tosser, Water Splashers, and Air Puffers. The animals (and one celestial body) made them into benders.

@@falkyraizu3063 saying that also negates the fact that lion turtles existed for thousands upon thousands of years and were hunted to near extinction well before the first comet. Of course people didn't go around saying they learned from the lion turtles, because no one knew they still existed. They knew how people learned to use the elements, but not where they got that ability. Lion turtles were thought to be a legend, mythological beings. Yes, waterbenders learned from the moon, but they had that ability already. By your argument, why doesn't Sokka become a waterbender, if he can just learn the ability from the moon? Why doesn't every non-bender become a waterbender if that's how they can do it?

@@falkyraizu3063 Researching the world you are writing about is important. It's also quite the bold claim to accuse the writers of LOK of not doing any. So looking at the ideas with this video was how the powers were granted by The Lion Turtles and the advanced martial arts, what became know as Bending, was learned by observation the people made of nature. Then the people passed down the art of bending and the story of how they developed it. I think the video did a great job of this, I don't have any points to add. It is a fact of the show that the water manipulation power has a strong connection with the Moon cause of what happens during "Siege of the North". Spirit of the Moon is in trouble and the people of the Northern Watertribe weren't even Water Splashers. This just shows waterbending has a spiritual source for this power it. So what is said about the relationship between the Moon and water benders. Yue says, "The legends says the Moon was the first water bender. Our ancestors saw how it pushed and pulled the tides and learned how to do it themselves." Katara mentioned how she noticed her bending is stonger at night. "Our strength comes from the spirit of the Moon our Life comes from the Spirit of the Ocean. They work together to keep balance." Please note the first two words Yue used, "The Legends..." meaning Yue is stating this information is a story is, perhaps based on some history, but is mainly a story these people use as part of their personal cultural understanding and identity. Which is kinda the point of this video to put forth the idea that the Lion Turtles bestowed the power/ability for manipulate the elements to people and the people left to settle the wilderness. Then over time those people learned to develope the martial art of bending by observing nature and telling those stories and eventually forgetting about the Lion Turtles. Also remember it had been almost 10 thousand years between those events in the story, which is all of human history is about the same length, and while the legends say that Rome was founded by two boys who had where raised by wolves but I'm fairly sure that isn't correct.

I have some things to put to Firstly legends are true if they are achivable, not to magical. It is often said a legend if there are two parties who have diff and opposit thoughts. It is said a legend to resoect others thinking too. This is why moon being a original teachers is a legend because 1: Lion turtle gave power, moon shoed how to harness the power and how to control and use it. 2: some may think moon just gave some power. I believe for 1 because, that also prooves why some are non benders and some are not. Lion turtles gave power to only those who left for the wild, while those who stayed among them didnt get the powers. After lion turtles going away I think people of same origin(element turtle) lived together in a community, thus those who left earlier were benders , while those who stayed non benders. This also tells why there are diff benders in 1 regions, as those who left the turtles might have lived in a diff turtle community in that area they reached, not the one they came from(like bolin and mako’s parents being diff benders, {or they moved due to formation of republic city, idk}). This also tells why moon doesnt make people benders, since it teaches the how(bending) , not the why ( ability to control element). Plus i think ATLA is very accurate genetically. lion turtles were able to mutate a person’s genes, making them benders or non benders instantaneously , and since mutations shows in the offspring, the childrne of benders would be benders too. Plus , the reason of children of people were benders or not might be due to dominance or receciveness of a gene in a family. Since 2 dominant parents will produce recessive chikdran too( talking in terms of genes ,not behaviour). And i thin lions controled genes would be recessive or dominant in a particular person, due to non benders and nonbendres also produced benders( making non bending dominant here) while 2 benders produced non benders ( as in case of bumi)

@@falkyraizu3063 Yes, it is true waterbenders gained their powers from the moon, but they could loosely be referring to how their bending is amplified by the presence of it, mirroring how the firebenders are to the comet, and their acquisition of the motion of the ocean can resonate to a certain motion/technique to efficiently execute their bending. TLOK clearly lacked the necessary time it needed for a more efficient delivery of both story and writing, and that's a fact, but it does not necessarily mean both the possibilities and hints of its supposed clear connections to ATLA are invalid. It entirely depends upon the fans themselves at this point, if they're willing to either fill up that connection for themselves, wait for the writers to fully clarify things up in a later story, or not at all.

@@falkyraizu3063 Princess Yue explained that the Legend explained how their ancestors learned from the Moon how to push and pull the tides, like the motion of the ocean. She then mentioned how the Moon gave their people "strength" and the ocean gave them their "life". That can mean so many things, since it remains as another of many Legends in the Avatar lore, and its still ripe for further exploration. The Legend never stated that absolutely no one had some connection to manipulate water before the Moon and Ocean Spirits came and sacrificed their immortality to really "integrate" themslves into the mortal world. Until then (or the point that we get clearer and official bits from the writers themselves) then people are free to remain open to the possibilites of the lore or not. Your criticism on how the writers were on LOK is all right since its your opinion (since LOK factually received diminished attention and development due to the issues between Nickelodeon and Bryke), and we all have our own/personal views, but again we really can't blame some fans for thinking/seeing the lore in one way or another.
@jorz1330
@jorz1330 3 жыл бұрын
@@falkyraizu3063 Was that interview pre or post LOK? I can only take what they remarked in that interview with a grain of salt, since they still have to factor in what Princess Yue specifically explained about her people's ancient past. Regardless, the implications of having acquired power from the moon freely remains to be questionnable, unless they exactly specify the process of how that works, whether it involves either ability or technique to bend, but again the Avatar lore is vast and the best everyone can do is stick to what has been given, theorize for themselves, and wait for more content from the writers. I won't settle for only what ATLA presented to us long ago while scrutinizing every detail in LOK just because it idealistically makes sense to either me or the ones urging others what it should be, as it would just take most of not all of the fun out of it anyways. However, the point you're making with how new introductions that "break" the establishments of the originals, is borderline subjective. Whenever the facts are given, and new things are added later down the line, especially in fictional lore, it is definitely your call whether that sounds about right or not, as it remains to be fiction* and its still progressing*. I won't be surprised if some things didn't make sense now then suddenly made sense later on and vice versa. I apologize if we really see differently on these little things in the lore, but expecting everyone should see things how it all should idealistically be in the first place is not practical. You can be open to what is so far** introduced, without having the urge to invalidate what others perceive from the same lore.

I felt it was explained really well in the beginnings episodes but I can still understand why people could get confused, especially when you take into account what we were told from ATLA. @@matthewwilliams8267 actually I still think it’s conflicting with atla. I do understand that having the power of an element is not the same as bending, but where the conflict comes in is with the Oma and Shu story. They’re supposed to be the ‘FIRST’ earthbenders, and they learnt from badgermoles, they never even got it from a lion turtle. According to the beginnings story, there were earthbenders even before avatar wan. Antoine said in this video that Oma and Shu probably lived on the earth lion turtle, but according to their story show that was not the case. The story said they came from two different villages at war, they built a cave to secretly meet and Oma then built the city of Omashu to end the war. The fact that the city of Omashu and the cave are still in existence while lion turtles are gone, that shows clearly that they were never on any lion turtle.

It could go into detail about all of their origins and who they are. Book 2 could go into missions they went on and go more in depth on the organizations goal. We could see more of Unalaq and further understand him as a villian. The final book would be about finding korra and enacting their plan of kidnapping her and it could end in them failing. I don't think anyone was saying there was an Omashu contradiction. The contradictions he was refering to are "The first show said (Dragons, badger moles, moon/tides, bisons) were the first benders and taught humans. But now Korra says Lion Turtles gave it to humans. That is just retcnonning and contradiction!" But he, and many others, say that it's possible for both to be true. It's not retconning.

That's how I interpreted it after Beginnings came out! Beginnings clearly show Wan learning how to firebend from dragons, and he learns how to use it in a way that's clearly distinct from those who temporarily received it from the lion turtle. In their own words, he "uses it like an extension of his body." They just throw flames. In this way, I can use my leg to kick or my hands to throw a punch, this doesn't make me a master martial artist.

It really goes to show nostalgia blind some Avatar fans are that they couldn't see the 'The Legend of Korra' just establishes where people got the ability to bend the elements from, and in no way, overwites the lore of people learning how to control the elements from animals. Like, come on, we see Wan doing the Dragon dance, so it shouldn't have taken that much mental energy to put two and two together. It honestly baffles me that some people need this explained to them.

It’s not being blind from nostalgia... ATLA ended in 2008 with a lot of established stuff in the lore. Many things were a bit mysterious, but it made it more intriguing. LoK book 2 comes out in 2013, 5 years later and goes “NOPE! This is the REAL information!” Nostalgia ruined, lots of confusion, etc. Fans wanted a season 4 of ATLA because there were a lot of unanswered questions. Instead, the creators decided to drop Legend of Korra for some reason. Ya, the comic books answered those questions but they were released sometime during each season of Legend of Korra... Legend of Korra might have been better received by fans if they released the comic books earlier

If I remember correctly, among those ancient 'benders' it was only the air city that had it's bending teacher on it, in the form of sky bison living among the lion turtle city. So it could be argued that the reason those ancient airbenders seemed so in tune with their element is because they were already being taught the ideals of it by the bison

😊🇵🇭 The fire element-granting lion turtle where Avatar Wan lived *gave* him the power or element of fire and the ability, capability or capacity to use it, but it was the white dragon which *taught* him actual and real firebending through the "Dancing Dragon". The same or similar concept also applies to the first earthbenders Oma and Shu with the badgermoles, the first warerbender/s with the Moon (Tui) and the first airbender/s with the sky and/or air bisons. By the way, if Avatar Wan is indeed or definitely the first human who was granted the power and the element of fire and who actually and really studied and learned actual and real firebending from a dragon (the white dragon), then it means he is the first firebender. The first ever Avatar is also the first ever firebender, unlike just those other more experienced hunter-gatherers and fire throwers before him who already ventured, hunted and gathered food in and from the Spirit Wilds.

If u pay close attention, we see this a bunch of times throughout ATLA. Aang explains how the ancient nomads copied the moves of the sky bison, and how the Sun Warriors mimics the movements of Dragons. There is a trend of the Lion Turtles granting humans bending abilities, then they pass on their bending to the offspring who was the people to copy the four original benders, like how Zuko's family was solely for breeding stronger benders, then Zuko would go to the dragons and learn the technique to better control it

i agree with you on the whole bending thing, but there's just one thing that bothers me about the way people in general talk bout the earth kingdom. i'd argue that the earth kingdom is a loose coalition of city states and provinces. like, king bumi was the king of omashu. and there was a king in ba sing se. and the queen was collecting taxes from a village. so that leads me to believe that the earth kingdom is less one giant country and more like a bunch of city provinces with their own kings in a loose coalition under the leadership of ba sing se. kinda like the united states but with royalty. other than that, spot on.

It makes sense. In real life people have the ability to fight naturally but many of the first eastern martial arts were developed by watching animals or so the stories go taking a natural ability and turning into something far more disciplined. This basic idea from our world put into the world of Avatar makes complete sense. The ability to bend gifted by the lion turtles is a "natural" skill or ability they possess but which few really understand how to use with any real efficencey. So the idea that the first benders would learn to bend as a martial skill by watching animals and adapting the skills to their needs is good reasoning.

My personal opinion (no real direct evidence): Oma and Shu were the generation after the people who left the Lion Turtles. They were born into warring villages after the spirit world and material world were separated and then the two lovers story happened, but everyone else in the Earth Nation were all novice benders and had no real control over it due to their limited knowledge and limited use before. Oma and Shu then learned from the badger moles in the cave and then the story was completed. That’s just my opinion but I’m pretty confident in it.

The magic part of being able to control the element is something that is paced down generation to generation. (I think of it like the magical bloodlines in Harry Potter.) That's why most of the new "airbenders" came from the earth kingdom. It's where the surviving nomads would settle and produce offspring. Only in that sense did they "forget." Because they forced themselves too. At least until harmonic convergence

Idk i understand the lion turtle story line its actually a good interesting way and explains a lot but i dont like how it contradicts with the first series i honestly wouldve preferred if the whole bending thing was more of a connection to earth and the avatar became the avatar because they had such a connection with earth that he was able to kearn from all 4 of the original benders which also gave them a strong connection with spirits and humans and that bond is what made the bridge that would continue life after life. To me that would be a better story line and when it comes to bending itself its more of a comprehensive thing like who can control which element and stuff like that and sometimes no one can
@Zinervawyrm
@Zinervawyrm 3 жыл бұрын
That would have felt much more natural. I was in high school during the time the original Avatar series was airing, and I had two connecting theories about the first avatar. First when I saw the "Cave of Two Lovers" episode my theory was that Oma as the first most powerful earth bender was reincarnated into the next cycled nation and was able to bend earth and fire, the the next life, earth, fire, air, by the third life, earth, fire, air, and water, and either by this time or the next life cycle after this person realized something was up, meditated under the giant mangrove in the swamp, and realized that for whatever unknown reason they became an avatar and sought a higher form of enlightenment. Hell it took the world a while to even fully recognize who and what an avatar was. I think both our ideas would have made better less contradicting stories about the first Avatar than Wan's story did.

@@Zinervawyrm thats interesting too and the way of bending could be a comprehensive thing like i said like for example in real life for school some people are better at some subjects than others just because they understand it that could be how bending is and for those who cant bend either dont have strong connection to earth and the original benders or dont comprehend it

So true, man. I never saw a contradiction with Korra era and Aang era lore. Clearly in beginnings it displays the two factors in bending, it is bestowed upon you by the great spirit, but then you are just a crude user not a true bender, learning from a master to master the element is completely different. Interesting how technically normal people could be given bending though, like there is no reason that Sokka could not be given earth bending from a Lion Turtle and then learn from the Badgermoles (or maybe just Toph) and become an earth bending master! Makes me wonder how that one guy learned to take people's bending away. Which spirit taught him that? Also why air benders suddenly appeared with convergence, people didn't randomly get bending in Wan era, and nobody had it genetically at all either. That was a weird thing.

I honestly feel like most of the ppl who say that just jump on the LOK hate bandwagon and repeat it because they heard someone else say it and never watched LOK or that episode for that matter. The episode clearly explains everything (Wan was given the ability to bend by the LT but learned to do it properly from the dragon) and fits in with the lore and makes sense. The ability to do something is not the same as learning to do something. Yes, we have the ability to produce speech but we still have to learn it. likewise, there are ppl born without the ability and can never learn even if they really wanted to. If everyone could just learn bending from the original benders (Dragons, badgermoles, airbison etc.) there should be no non-benders, because then anyone could just look at the moon, for example, and learn from them and become a waterbender.

It actually makes sense that Oma would be the fourth Avatar. One person building an ENTIRE Kingdom from scratch? Seems like something only an avatar could do. After Shu died she might’ve gone into the avatar state but they didn’t know what that was back then. Also I wanna point out that it’s not canon that the avatar has to travel the world to learn the elements. Who knows if she ever even unlocked the other elements? there’s no rule that says an avatar HAS to use all 4. Focusing solely on earth bending might have made her one of the most powerful earth benders ever

My bad for saying she created the kingdom by herself, but still that’s a lot of powerful for one person. ALSO her innate desire for peace and order and distaste for war is the MAIN avatar characteristic.
