Tractor Time with Tim

Two tractors is better than one for the large brush and overgrown trees at the Radio Tower project. Tractor Time with Tim uses the John Deere 2038R with Baumalight Brush Mulcher while Christy uses the Ventrac with Tough Cut. Lots of drone footage as we tackle another portion of this overgrown 5 acre lot.

My 1025 tlb was delivered today. Way overkill for my 3/4 acre yard that needs alot of help. Just wanted to thank you for the videos and motivation. I've learned alot of invaluable information. In about an hour, I've got the yard mowed, and moved a brush pile that consumed half my back yard. This could have easily consumed my entire weekend before. I'm absolutely amazed at what such a small machine can do. Artillian comes next week(great folks) and heavy hitch probably around the same time... anyway enough of my long winded comment, just wanted to say thanks.

Front mounted attachments: just bought 2 International 140's just for the front mounted cultivator set up and offset operator station.Bought the 2 because they were on an internet auction,going cheap,and both fit on the trailer I needed for the 1500 mile round trip.Some surprises but overall pleased and using one to cultivate already.Little over $5000.00 for the pair and both have complete cultivator set-ups. Also got a fast hitch 1 row plow in very good condition. Don't need the plow though.Got videos up if you want to see them. Neat little tractors and my back and neck say Thank You.

If you raise the front of the ventrac tough cut you can cut a lot of the bigger brush. Then lower it down to cut the stump off. We noticed when we cut brush here in Texas the tough cut splintered the stalks so the are less likely to puncture tires. Or main brush is youpon and mesquite Enjoy these videos since I am unable to get on the equipment. Several years ago I got a commercial brush clearer who contracts to clear easements for power companies to clear a lot of brush. His machine had a rotor cutter 4 feet high and 9 feet wide. He removed some trees 30-40 feet tall. The good thing was it left mulch on the ground which helps prevent erosion till grass and forbes can establish.

So I was impressed by the brush mulcher in several of your videos. I am in the market for an implement to replace my 60" rotary mower that's getting old and worn out and thought I'd check this out. Holy Cripes! For the size appropriate for my tractor - 59-hp gross, 49-hp PTO - the mulcher has an MSRP of $17,000+! Out of the question. I think you should be up front with this information, even if it's an approximation.

Some thoughts... I've gotta say I'm really impressed on what Johny 2 and that BaumaLight brush mulcher are chewing up and spitting out. That said, one issue about using Johny 5, even with a bigger brush mulcher, could be the geared transmission. I believe your 5075E has a 12/12 hydraulic power reverser transmission with a wet main clutch. Judging by how much eHydro "creep and stop and creep" Johny 2 had to do, you might have to do a lot of clutching with Johny 5, even using 1st gear in its lowest A range. Although wet main clutches can take a lot of clutch "slippage" abuse, a creeper option would really help in this application. Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a creeper option available for the 5E 12/12 hydraulic reverser transmission. What to do, what to do... I'm guessing it would be very, very hard to get a new Johny 4 (4066R with 440R FEL) and a BaumaLight 580 approved by your very wise CFO. 😉

The stationary drone footage is good in this case because we can see both Tim and Christy working at the same time. Since you are mulching everything I wonder if the Tree clip from a couple of videos back would be a better front attachment than the grapple. Perhaps it would be faster to clip the 3- 5" trees than to mulch them? Couldn't you put it on Johnny 5 and not push the engine RPMS up to normal for rear PTO attachements?
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 4 жыл бұрын
re: Johnny 5. Running a PTO attachment at lower RPM actually INCREASES the stress on it...dramatically. Running it faster decreases the stress on the shafts. I know, seems backwards...but it is true. We don't want to put a machine with 65PTO hp (tested) on an attachment rated for 40 PTO hp. If we were off by 5, maybe, but not 50%+!

Great video, Tim and Christie! Another product I'd love to see reviewed because, except for Hollis Farms on KZfaq, very few videos, which are current, exist: Brown Tree Cutter. It seems it is the PTO, 3 pt hitch equivalent of a skid steer QA mounted hydraulic Diamond Cutter (enter other brand here). It really made great progress for Jason Hollis, and love to see a comparison. Keep up the great work...that 2038R is getting it done! Vinnie speaks for itself - great machine!!
@paulkleinschmit9871
@paulkleinschmit9871 4 жыл бұрын
The diamond cutter is like a brush mower except instead of swinging two blades, you're spinning a giant steel wheel with carbide teeth. It's a tree eating monster to be sure but it also has tons of momentum as well, which is a blessing and a curse for smaller horsepower machines. The upside is that momentum like that will allow the tractor to power through those situations where Tim killed the tractor with the drum type cutter. However, once that momentum is gone, it's a sustained struggle to build that momentum back up, which is quite a challenge for pto clutches and engines.

My dad was always at war with the Russian olives great to see how well this attachment takes care of them. How do you think my 25hp Tym T264 would handle this 48 inch model you have?

25hp would not be enough for this model.

Since your asking for what we would like to see, If they would let you have one, a Woods Brush Bull 48.30 would be nice to see behind Johnny, It seems to have better specs than other rotary cutters in that size.

Looks great Tim and Christy!!. That brush mulcher really does a great job!. A few questions on Vinnie in this video: 1.) Are the dulls necessary here or where they just on the tractor at the time? 2.) Is that JD quick hitch on the back of Vinnie?

The duals were just on it already. Haven’t taken them off all spring. Yes, that is a Deere I-Match on Vinny.

what are your future plans for this area, will you convert it to a pasture and mow it once or twice a year?

I would love to have a brush mulcher like that. I have between 20 and 30 acres I would like to get back under control. 30 years ago it was partially wooded and pasture. When I was a kid we ran cattle/sheep on it. So it is a bit overgrown now.

Thanks for the video! I'm wondering why the paths/routes the ventrac was taking, seemed to be so inefficient. Did the camera angle not show the "real" size of the area or possibly, the severity in the thickness it was mowing? Thanks again and have a great day!

Does removing all the foliage increase your vulnerability to flooding? Should the County dig a big culvert along the road to take away the water from neighbors across the road - if that's the source?
