I have researched the meager “ literature” mainly or more correctly exclusively in the form of short KZfaq videos. All of these videos have the performers executing the most exquisite subtone passages including the presenter of this video. What most or all of these most excellent subtoners do not realize or are even aware of is the simple fact that there does not exist one definitive procedure for the production of the subtone ,the net result by way of utility of all of the material available on the subtone that I have researched are not merely confusing, ill defined, subjective but absolutely contradictory in content. One subtoner insists that the mouthpiece be taken in as little as possible while another has the player insert the mouthpiece to well past the break line.Several subtoners stipulate a tip opening of around 3mm and a 1.5 reed, while another set insists on the closest tip opening and a 5 reed. A common suggestion is that the head be lowered to enable the lower lip to support the edge of the reed , while photos of the master Ben Webster clearly shows him with his head held high and tilted upward..There is general agreement that the throat must be opened out as much as possible. I know of no mammal much less a human who is able to control the throat opening. This attribute is limited for the most part to specimes of the large lizard species and to some large frogs.SO JUST WHY IS THERE NO ONE DEFINITIVE PROCEDURE THAT PROSPECTIVE SUBTONERS MAY ADHERE TO IN ACHIEVING THE ABILITY TO PLAY IN THIS MOST EXQUISITE MODE?

I am intensely interested in being able to play in subtones but most or all instructional videos state that the lower jaw be moved back . This I am unable to do due to the anatomical structure of the lower jaw which can only be moved forward and not even a fraction of millimeter backwards. I would be most obliged if you could either suggest an alternative method or suggest videos or other sources that could help me solve my problem. Thanking you sincerely.
