This review was super helpful for me in deciding which tablet to go with - finally a review that did everyday tasks rather than running random tests that don't apply to everyday use. I went with the iPad Air 4 largely due to the newer processor. ProMotion I could care less about at the moment and I'm usually doing single core stuff anyways. So far I've edited a whole video on Lumafusion with no issues. Lightroom works super fast. I've used the 2020 Pro in the past and it got hot super quickly when editing photos. The A14 chip really is next gen in that regard. I'm impressed. I don't regret my purchase at all.

I’d definitely consider the iPad Pro 2018 over the Air, however, the 2018 iPad Pro is only worth buying if it’s refurbished from Apple or if you manage to find a brand new one. Because all the “refurbished” iPad Pros you see on eBay or Amazon don’t have replaced batteries or the frame of the iPad. So the Air is a better investment.

Opening apps actually doesn’t test the chip much. It only tests how fast the ssd is at loading things into ram. Benchmarks are actually a better metric or doing things like comparing frame rates in game and video export times.

Drawing with the pencil was way smoother on the Pro. Just set the speed on the KZfaq player to 0.25 and you'll see the obvious difference. It's less visible at normal speeds, but it's there.

7:10 watch at 0.25x. clear difference. pro is always pro

The nvme storage read and write speeds on the Air 4 is increased thats why your seeing higher memory scores.

Just checked this out irl as well, the pro just seems to have a way better looking screen, apart from that 100 nits and 120hz, it just looks like it has way better contrast and the air looks flat in comparison

Finally someone is actually trying to make a review, I would have loved for more details on the video rendering, like how long it was and what was the difference. I saw pixelator's ml sharpening is halfed in ipad air compared to pro. almost 28sec to 52 sec. so each has its advantage. procreate still not recognizing the 4gb of ram yet, so watch out for that any artist. hopefully they will fix it if there was a requirement and apple opened the whole ram to developers.

I'm really tempted to buy the Air now. I think I might still hold out and buy the next-gen Pro instead. However, a Pro would probably be overkill for my needs. The only games I would probably play on an iPad would be Hearthstone and Oceanhorn. Editing wise, I would be doing light edits in Affinity Photo. Other than that, I would be mostly using it for the web and reading my ebooks.

Honestly if u are student and buying it for the purpose of note taking , video watching and pdf stuff , go for buying ipad Air 4 with 256Gb along with 2nd gen apple pencil ( which will be nearly equal to price of ipad pro 11 with 256Gb ) , 1. if u ever had ipad in ur life u might be knowing that u r never gonna use ipad for taking pictures , 2. touch id is far better to have then face id specially when u are donned with mask , ( med students) 3. plus it's better to have 60hz refresh rate then 120hz as it will be saving battery a little which we need the most while studying . 4. Great Videos Noah as always I was going to go for the new Air but I would need the higher storage. Should I go for the Pro instead as 128 storage would be just right and like the thought of the better sound and screen as sometimes us my iPad out doors. This video just feels like an iPad Air commercial, he downplays and disregards everything the iPad Pro does better and and praises the shit out of everything the Air does. Like why did you downplay the 120Hz pro-motion on the Pro like it's irrelevant? It's makes a MASSIVE difference to the overall user experience and is literally a deal breaker.

New-gen PRO with A14X/Z will blow away every other tab in the market, but at that pricepoint, Air sounds like a better deal to me (at least for the next couple of years) because Apple will likely keep this for at least 2 years till they refresh.

Those geekbench scores looks impressive on both... I'm on an iPad Air 2 and GeekBench 5 scores are 385 and 1070. What bugs me off is that for my use, is more than enough! (I just read pdf books, take notes, and use it as a Daw controller for Logic Pro X, and works great!). Wish I could get something slightly better with Pencil support, but not costing me more than my monthly rent! Maybe... Apple should make 3 types of iPad. 1 Full blown PRO model.. ok. And then 2 other models, one for those who want as much as they can get for their money (a "lite" version of the pro), and then one for those who don't require any of the cameras, the greatest sound, etc... just a "tablet" for basic use like mine: read, write, draw... nothing more. That would be a killer in the market! as many people don't have an Apple tablet cause they can't afford it. And any other "cheap" android tablet sucks.

Great video as always man!!! That’s strange the iPad Pro was stuttering with Minecraft. I’ve never had an issue with it on my 2018 iPad Pro, it runs buttery smooth with no frame drops.

Really nice video, I feel like the only difference that the average person would actually pay attention to is the no Face ID on the air and other than that, everything seems just fine

The pro is clearly much better. The slight advantage in the single core is way beaten by the gpu. Who would go for the one that opens apps a tenth of a second faster but is destroyed in every other way. I will never understand why the speed of opening apps is hyped to be such a big deal. Wow my iPad opens apps slightly faster than yours but mine is much much faster to work with once the app is open. Why is it even a discussion.

This was well done! I still have a hard decision time. I'm between air 4 256GB or the Pro 12". I'm more interested in the performance over price, but the performance gained per dollar is important. I'm mainly wanting to use it for Lumafushion and basic browsing. Some drawings here and there. I don't do complicated video editing, mostly it's just sets of clips on a timeline, cut them, and add transitions and background music. Does that warrant the Pro and the bigger size or do you think I wouldn't find it difficult on the air? I'm not sure how I feel about an 11" tablet for video editing as I've never used anything below a 15" screen for video editing up until now. I have used 13" for drawing and that's fine even if I get smaller.
