People are frightened because it's a multi racial, multi ethnic, multi religious, and multi cultural society in which there are no common ties that bond people.

Isn’t it “funny” [ for lack of a better word ] that since **most** **people** in our population of 300 million; have a camcorder in their pockets so, Bigfoot disappeared a the police continually violate **your** **most** **basic** of human rights?? Isn’t that fucking hilarious ❤️🔥

Arguably japan and places in Scandinavia are "secure" however less free. And less open when it comes to government. Edit: its ok to be afraid what matters is how you respond to it. I wouldn't expect a softy who stares at books all day, behind mahogany doors to understand that.

Typical reductive comeback. It’s true this is the most gun crazed country on earth. We own over half of all guns in existence.

This is what everyone loves to hear: A brilliant man that lives cloistered in the halls of academia shaming everyone else’s fear. Some people can’t afford insurance for everything they own or have write offs and replace everything. Murder rate is zero in Cambridge. Is that a by-product of Massachusetts gun laws or the fact that the people even able to get close to living in Cambridge have to procure at least a six figure job? So please continue to look down on those of us that pray for safety, hope to avoid trouble, and have their own insurance policies.

Yes, inequality is a big contributor to feeling unsafe. And the lack of social safety nets means that many people find themselves in desperate situations and revert to violence, hence the need for the rest of the population to "protect themselves" [from thieves, junkies, gangsters].
@Speedofsound96 ай бұрын
If you actually listened to the whole podcast you wouldn't have typed this comment. I believe the context was about creating fear within your population for votes. He goes on to mention a community of extremely wealthy folk in Arizona, who live in a gated community 10s of miles from the southern border. Had Steve Bannon and a few others like him, go in that community and ask for money to build a wall. The irony of it all is you probably couldn't find a safer community in the entire world. Yet these people, in their gated community, are so terrified of illegals, that they give their money to fund a border wall. The idea that anyone is scared of illegals is a right wing experiment to get votes. Because they have no economic policy that is worth getting voting for. So they scream border and abortion and half the country votes republican out of fear.

Response 2) inequality exists and because of it, somehow people have to be violent. 3) make more money. This is the ultimate liberal starter packet here. Yeah poor people have it bad. Here is the formulary for why it is bad, and a utopian prescription from a centralized government authority whilst holed up from the rable and telling them that are law abiding that they shouldn’t have guns or make more so they can be insulated from seeing any societal ills. Thanks.

@@nickmonks9563That’s literally what the second amendment is for. To protect ourselves against the govt, it says it right there in the constitution. Also, it’s really not crazy to think they don’t want us to have that protection and are currently working to remove said protection. Look at the UK or look at Canada, they all had guns and the govt took them away. Here in CA they are slowly adding more and more unconstitutional gun laws that don’t help whatsoever with crime or gun violence deaths. More laws don’t stop criminals. They break laws by definition, so why would limiting magazines to 10 rounds have any effect on people who don’t care about the law? Then you have dipshits talking about assault rifles when those have been banned since the 70’s. I’m not some tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist holed up in their basement w 50 guns, I’m a productive member of society w a family. I’m just not stupid and I see what’s going on. If you want to have 6 million guns for yourself who cares.

He's mistaking preparedness with paranoia. Canada is able to have dystopian gun laws because there are so many firearms in the United States. As can Mexico, and the rest of latin America. America doesn't have a crazed gun culture, it has a democrat problem. And if firearms were truly dangerous, in the law abiding person's hand, we wouldn't have a democrat problem.

I’m hyper critical of Chomsky the older I get . He is blind to many things. Take this point he makes . Gun owners are not exclusively paranoid , but he throws a hit their way. The US is not the most secure country . In fact it has been invaded and could have been invaded right up until 1945 . The paranoia stems from the First World War and it was justified. It is a lazy analysis that is ideological in nature. In so many aspects he does not survive real academic scrutiny. Especially his thesis in Manufacturing consent
