_$16,000 a month - a year's rent anywhere else. ONLY in crazy NYC._ FWIW, my place in So. Cal. (admittedly not an inexpensive place to live), would be $48,000 a year ... so 3x your baseline. PS I don't have views of any cool parks or buildings.
@hewitc
@hewitc 10 ай бұрын
@@josephgaviota It's not something I would want to pay, but people with money to burn spend hunderds of thousands per month to rent homes in Palm Beach, Hamptons etc. One celebrity (maybe Kardashian or Beyonce?) spent over $1M to rent a yacht on the Riviera for one week! When I rented in NYC (decades ago) the most I paid was $450/mo. for a beat up one bedroom with floors that visibly sagged and plaster falling down. Fifth floor walk up but with a Euro-style elevator that fit 3 people very tightly. No AC. No "amenities". But that's still $1,900 in today's dollars. So today's rents sound high to me but I can understand paying $2,500-$5,000 and up. Location, location, the realtors say. Plus most of the city is gentrified now. The old areas of Lower East side (alphabet city), Bed-Stuy, Williamsburg, Harlem, Hells Kitchen, Times Square, even The dreaded Bronx (Fort Apache?) used to be places you stayed well away from. Now they are all %1M+ condos or $6K/mo. rentals. I've been there lately and I only saw one homeless guy asking for change. The FBI says the NYC crime rate is at a 25 year low. I believe it. It's a Democratic area so the right media likes to exaggerates the problems. And it's always had problems-- it's a huge highly populated city with incredible diversity and lots of poor people, like any city. But it's 100% cleaner and safer then when I lived there for decades.

Those scissors!!! Please ask your wife. She may know but there is a man in Japan, Hirakawa Yasuhiro, that hand forges those scissors. They can cost from a thousand American dollars on up to thousands and thousands of dollars. Used primarily by those artists who create bonsai. Depending on the intricacy of pattern and the precision of the scissors, it can take a year or longer to make a pair of scissors. Anyone who buys a pair knows the cut will be sharp and precise. I would love a pair. It is a dying art just like making sumi ink but there are craftspeople in Japan who are reviving the art of creating thousands of centuries of craftsmanship in these fields. Oh, and the apartment is nice 😊

Plusses: Window in kitchen (prized in NYC) Big closets mahogany wood paneling everywhere (I'm a sucker for that, I admit it) hardwood floors size of a house views location roofdeck washer/dryer bay window nice bedrooms Minuses: no windows in baths (subtract big points at this price point) tiny kitchen (at that price point, though, they'd always eat out) location (I know, it's also a plus, but it's a bit off the park, the Dakota would be better, or a riv vu) kind of cluttered (yes, that can be fixed) ceilings not impressive (I know, 1st world problems) wood paneling (yes, also a plus, but it's a bit dated and claustrophobic, too). It's obviously wonderful, but those minuses would count for some people.

While the mahogany woodwork is gorgeous (Sinash are you drooling yet) is making it look very dark. Sometimes less is more. LOL! Now, here is an example of where we disagree--except for my drooling... I'm at times somewhat baffled by folks who believe interiors of a home must be upgraded every 2-3 years. First, that's expensive and you may never see a return on that investment and it's extremely inconvenient. The good thing is that it keeps construction workers working... I like this property. Sure, the bathrooms and kitchen are dated. But everything is clean and functional. It works for me. I believe it is worth the $16K/month (as long as everything is included). It's located on Columbus Circle overlooking Central Park? Now, THAT'S New York living to (and for) me!!!

Rent that place you are going to need to have a French polisher on speed dial if you want to get the deposit back... So much wood to scratch or leave watermarks on.

Calling it mahogany wood is redundant 😂 Nice bay window. Yep, that's all I have to say since finding out it's being rented for $16,000/month. 😳 I love mahogany, but having lived in a house that had a ton of mahogany I remember feeling really stifled, and I only lived in that home when I was 12 until 15 when my parents moved to Southern Ontario 🇨🇦
