My second interview with Noel Gallagher conducted on the eve of the 2000 world tour in Tokyo. This was the first time they toured with the new line up with Gem Archer and Andy Bell

Noel is so comfortable in his own skin, and speaks so genuinely in this interview. You almost never hear celebrity types speak like this - they always trying to portray an image rather than be who they really are
@coldacre4 ай бұрын
are you kidding? he looks so uncomfortable in this interview. Bonehead & Guigsy are gone, Liam's voice was deteriorating.... he's a man trying to come to terms with the fact that his band is no longer #1..... he's taking stock, at best.

This is the most honest interview I've seen from Noel. He was clearly in a bit of a spiral of self doubt, probably because coming off the drugs, probably because the music world had changed around him, probably because the band was collapsing around him. There's always been this bravado which I guess comes from the sense that he escaped the dreadful upbringing he had so anything after that is a bonus, but he's genuinely vulnerable here. He has something to lose at this point and is in danger of losing it, and doesn't have the 'toot' to help charisma his way through it. It's fascinating and really just, I guess, normal human.

Noel G always does great interviews, but I think this is the best one I've ever seen. And I have watched and listened to every interview I could find. He's a total straight shooter. This was a great time in his career to talk to him, and the interviewer was asking him interesting questions. I learned a lot about what he thought and how he felt about a bunch of stuff. I really enjoyed this. Thanks so much for posting this. Peace.

This is my favourite oasis era (99-02). I don't really care that much about the hyped years in comparison. They matured musically so much and their music had a darker tone in it. I guess that's why people did not really take it well.
@cph20048 жыл бұрын
I enjoy watching noel Gallagher's interviews, watching his body language give away clues of the future...for example, when he says he doesn't care if the album doesn't sell well, then he bites his nails, feeling anxious, in which he does want it to do well. It things like that, if you listen closely he tells and acts the true story of what goes on behind the scenes.

Noel really outdoes himself here, there's this combination of all the human traits and attitudes, all rolled into one, and they pop out one after the other. And he talks about stuff all musicians are fascinated by. But it's the vibe of the guy which overides everything....Cool, unassuming, humble, real. He's said some stuff about Harry lately I think could have been left out. But this is the great music man at his finest.

I skip most of it nowadays. It could've been an amazing album, but it just falls flat. Funny enough, I skip a lot of Definitely Maybe too nowadays. Morning Glory is the shit though. I even think that Sotsog has aged pretty well. I think if they had took a break, perhaps BHN would've ended up being merged with the best songs from it, and they would've dropped some of the weaker (most) tracks from BHN.
@CS-mo7xp2 жыл бұрын
@@mikejenkins4924 I thought Shoulders was a disappointment tbh, not bad just a bit underwhelming. they lost that raw powerful sound. it sounded very tame and studio bound (to me). Be Here Now still has that fizzing energy
@mikejenkins49242 жыл бұрын
@@CS-mo7xp I agree with you, but that is why I like it. It is such a comedown album. Bhn on the other hand, although it has energy, the compositions are just not as interesting, plus everything sounds overbright, with an overabundance of major chords. Apart from a few songs, it is an album that I think has dated the worst. Definitely wouldn't consider it a good follow up to WTSMG. If mixed with a few of the songs off of Standing, it could've been another masterpiece, especially with a few of the A-sides swapped out for B-sides.

StrettyHS 313 I think the chorus was a bit of a stretch - it was a slight strain even in the mid-90s. That said he sang it well enough On Jools Holland in 2000 and again at Finsbury in '02. But yeah, I've never heard Noel say anything like this before...

dave790 I just listened to his Knebworth performance of it. Don't think anything after that beats it. Top notch. I think 2002 was the very tail end of his voice being great. Personally to me, I don't think he sounded very good at Finsbury.

Yeah it is blinding. Main Road that year as well. I liked his vocals in 2002 but it's not for everyone. There's been the odd show since. Even now, with rest, he could sing well at a one-off show. But even then they'd be no way he could pull off Some Might Say.
