Saxon was the first "proper" metal band I heard, sometime around 2003 I believe, still a favourite to this day.

Fantastic show Robb. It’s aged like fine wine. From the first episode with Lars from Rancid to now, been loving all of them. Years later when I look back at this pandemic, one of the positive highlights for me will always be your show. Your show has been a saving grace during this most unconventional of times honestly. The depth, rigour and sincerity with which you deconstruct the subjects of your interviews is second to none out there. What really impressed me is how seamlessly the conversation flows from one aspect to another and ends up covering such breadth and depth and yet creates a coherent narrative that makes sense at the end rather than being a random collection of different aspects. It shows that you have a natural ability to build a structure around a conversation without it ever feeling contrived or forced. I think only Lars Ulrich’s It’s Electric show comes close. I hope you will continue this show even after touring resumes as it is a real gem. Love and respect man.

Instantly hooked , that was my introduction to the NWOBHM back in 1981 i believe. Legend. Their live album "the eagle has landed" is still one of my favourite live metal albums to this day .

I somewhat remember that wacken rocks seaside show. Me and my buddies went for machine head specifically and had to travel from the Netherlands. We got there pretty early and walked onto the festival area. I think a lot of germans had some kind of pre party the night before or something since lots of ppl were already in full partymode. I remember a guy lying in the grass right before or after the entrance in a bit of a weird pose and sleeping/hungover under a cowboy hat or something. The funny thing was, at the end of the Day (deep in the night) , that same dude was still there, i don't think he moved 😆 he missed a full day of music, although i have very recollection of it as well since i got so drunk x). Anyway, coffee sucks (never drank it again after one sip) and love the podcast, keep this thing rolling! 😇

Talking of ABBA, Led Zeppelin recorded an album in their studios in Sweden (POLAR Studios) - I think around the In Thru the Out Door period. And it has that ABBA dissonant sorta slightly out of tune piano feel to the entire album if you listen closely.
