My partner is a stage manager and I've picked up a few things from him over the years. The Macbeth being bad luck thing comes from the fact that if you were in a show and it wasn't doing well, the theatre you were in would start putting on a production of Macbeth and cancelling the crap show to make their money back. That's why it's bad luck because it meant your production was rubbish basically lol. The superstition has evolved to the point now, where a lot of theatre folk have their own little anti jinx thing they do if someone does say Macbeth in the theatre instead of The Scottish Play 😅 The superstition that it's bad luck to whistle in a theatre comes from a safety thing. Back in the old days before modern coms, anything like flies being dropped or lights moving or anything had a whistle code. So like, when it was time to drop a fly, the stage manager would whistle in a certain way for example. You don't want to be innocently whisting on stage and suddenly a backdrop or a sandbag counterweight falls on your head! There are lots of cool people behind the scenes making sure the actors, lighting and sound all happens at the right time whilst also keeping everyone on stage safe ^_^ The behind the scenes stuff is really interesting when you dig into it.

You really messed up with the Greeks. Greek theaters had grandstands and were technical masterpieces that were only understood again in modern times. The acoustics were designed in such a way that even spectators in the last rows could hear someone whispering at a certain point on the stage.
