Great video. I relate so much to the inspiration NoFX gave you. I also became obsessed with them around 2010/2011, and I still consider them my biggest musical influence. It’s surreal to imagine a world where NoFX isn’t active.

NOFX were the band that got me into punk. I made friends with a new guy at school when I was 14, and they were his favourite band, and that changed my life. So when I heard the news, I was so sad. I still haven't gotten the chance to see them in all these years. They rarely visit Australia, and when they do, they don't come to my state, so I'm hoping they come to Aus on their final tour. And yeah, from what I've heard, they are breaking up. Smelly has talked in a recent podcast about how frustrated he's been with Mike and how irresponsible he is, and that the band are more co-workers than friends. Really sucks to hear, but I wish them all the best. And like you said, no one can take their legacy away from them, undoubtedly one of the most important punk bands

@@MistaMahoney He wrote “I’m hoping they come to Aus on their final tour” and I informed him that they are already coming there now, because it seemed like he didn’t know. Would’ve sucked if he missed it for that reason. I’m sure he doesn’t think they will come to fucking Adelaide. Indeed, he wrote as much. I’ve travelled all around Australia, from Darwin to Hobart and from Brisbane to Perth, so i’m quite aware of its size. I also travelled by train from Adelaide to Melbourne, but I would recommend flying. Thankfully I only have to bike ten minutes to the nofx show in Amsterdam every two years, but I know that people fly there from all over Europe. That’s not much different.

ultimately, the hearts been out of it for years now. on stage they actively look like they're hating it. I get it, I wouldn't wana play some of thr same songs for decades, that'd suck. if you're in a position where that's the way you make money now, is to play obscure German venues every year away from family. They probably should have called it a decade ago, don't get me wrong, I love NoFX, and will be desperate to get a ticket to their final tour. its time, its over. RIP

Being an "Old dude" in punk, we're getting at an age where we're going to see a lot of our favorite bands stop going. I will say, getting old isn't a factor in most. Uncle Vinny, from Agnostic Front, is in his 60's and shows NO SIGN of ever stopping. My one big fear, from NOFX stopping, is Bad Religion may take big notice and follow.

After 25-ish years listening to them I have realized something about them. They should have cut out like 80% of their songs that were just album filler and released a really gnarly 7" or 2 every year. Not that 7" of the month crap either. I think the conversation a lot people would be having would contain a lot less "who cares???".

Loved the freeform video format, man. As for NOFX, bummer I guess but I haven’t really cared about their releases since like, the early 2000’s. I love them, I have everything they’ve put out (and it’s all good) but so many of these elder statesmen of punk keep churning stuff out and it becomes less of an event. They could tour forever on the mid-90’s catalog, but if they want to go out on their own terms, more power to ‘em. If they want to do a one-off reunion tour in 10 years, I’ll be there.

They were my gateway into the whole genre. A decent pick for the top 5 Goats of punk rock for sure. I can see them disbanding "officially" so that they can each be free to focus on other endeavor, but I sincerely doubt they won't ever perform as a band again in the future. The idea of a corny "reunion tour" with past members and friends like the Gimmes doing NoFX covers is 100% in Mike's head I'm sure. As far as playing minus one, the only one I can see tapping out for certain gigs would be Smelly. I think he's happily done, but like you said these guys have been the same lineup for too long for a replacement to even be conceivable.

One of the bits of speculation comes from the Dopey interview with Smelly (uploaded about 7 months ago), where he explains that they had to give Mike an ultimatum - they said he needs to get clean or the band ends. Smelly also said that they didn’t want to do this because they couldn’t retire from the band as they aren’t rich guys so still need the band to make money…

I completely agree, I think the only way NOFX ends(barring a death) is if the rest of the band get sick of Fat Mike. They could probably make a decent living just doing the European and American festival circuit each year. The song 60%(reprise) sums it up correctly when he say "We don't have management, we get to play loaded/and only 3 months a year/Some years we just take off, vacations are a write off, and so is goin' out". I really think it was a throw away line meant to tell Canadian's they're retiring from coming back to Canada.

Man, I've known about NOFX since I was just a kid due to my older siblings having a few of their CD's back in the late 90's. I rediscovered them when I was about 20 years old and have been a huge fan ever since. I've been keeping up with all their newest releases and listening to their older albums over and over for the past 12 years or so. It's hard to believe they're retiring but then again it's incredible that a punk rock band who gained notoriety in the early 90's is still around in 2022. I haven't seen them live tho.

i think that it is completely possible if not likely that they are breaking up, but as far as ive seen, mind you i might be missing something, besides that comment that mike made, no one has confirmed that they are breaking up. the most that mike has said on the matter was reposting other peoples speculations on instagram. i dont think that anyone in the band has confirmed that their up coming album is their last and i cant see how they would put out an album and then just disappear. if i had to make a prediction, i think that this break up might just be an end to consistent touring and albums while still popping up to play a show here and there or a fest if they are breaking up for good though, I thank them for all the music and helping my find my place in the punk scene

I saw NoFX in the early 90s in a tiny little all-ages hall. This was before "Punk in Drublic" and I had a friend who was very much into them. I saw a lot of cool bands in tiny places at that time - Green Day at a skate ramp, etc. Most of this was before Nirvana broke and made the entire scene more mainstream. I sort of grew into NoFX, not really becoming a fan until "Heavy Petting Zoo" around '96. But I find them to be interesting now and have always kept an ear pointed toward them

They always released new shit, and they did touring right, like three months on and nine off, so they’re not burned out. Actually, they basically did everything right, telling radio and mtv to fuck off in the early 90s, never signing with a major label, they were still able to make a great living with no pressure from some suits who tell them when to tour and cut their music to shit. Mike always says they’re all fuck ups who can’t play, but they’re all very talented, especially mike who’s written close to 400 songs over the years, produced many other bands, written a musical, and the decline is a fucking masterpiece, the guys a genius. El Hefe is awesome on guitar, and probably a better singer lol. Smelly is a drummers drummer. And Melvin, you know, he does his thing, yelling and playing three chords like a mother fucker. The early years were chaotic with some guys in and out, but once Hefe joined it just clicked. They paced themselves almost like they knew they wanted it to last this long, picking their spots carefully, while also not really caring about what anyone else was doing. They’ve given a blueprint to any band that wants to follow it, but there will never be another band like them. Sad to see them go, but honestly, the amount of music they’ve left behind is enough to satisfy any fan. Been a fan since early 90s, and actually found out only a while ago that Mike was born in and lived in Newton, Ma for the first 5 years of his life, I grew up in the next town over, just a cool fact as I always assumed he was born in Cali.

Why do bands always say, "We're calling it quits, folks"? Why cant they just say, "We're gonna try not doing anything for a while. If you dont see us in a while, we probably quit or died or something"? Because here's what can happen as it has before. They announce their final show. Fans buy tickets and all kinds of memorabilia. Sometimes that memorabilia gains value as the bands music hasnt died. Hardcore fans get offered big bux for their stuff, but wont disloyal the band by selling it. Then, the band decides they wanna come out of retirement. They do a bunch of shows then announce they're really quitting this time and do a last show. Now, you have two sets of memorabilia of their last show. But obviously the first last show wasnt their last show, so now all that memorabilia is worthless. How fair is that to the fans that remained loyal?

The fix, go see them Asbury Park Punk in Drublic in the afternoon and then off to Manhattan to catch Fat Mike with the Gimmee Gimmees . It’s that simple.

For me NOFX started with Heavy Petting ZOO in 96. I had lucky to heard then in one radio program on RMF FM station and I recorded bunch of songs from the program. I could heard them before on MTv Europa in first half of 90's. In that radio show often they had pra-premiers of albums. I made many VA albums thanx that station. In that way I gott also Sepulturas Roots, one of my favoriter album of 96 and ever. In 00's I lost intresting in their music becouse it was to polished for me. I like melodic stuff too but played with kick in ass or wirdness. Only sometimes I was lisened to them to now. For sure very important band and for many poeple they were and are gateway to the RockNRoll world 🤘 Well deserved pension😝

Everybody is fed up with Mike’s antics. Listen to Smelly on the Dopey pod. I like Mike though, and one could say that he truly stayed “punk.” Anyway, as a long time nofx-fan I’m happy about the break-up, because they haven’t really made anything good since the aptly named Decline. The last album was the worst ever, and I don’t like the new song either. But all their nineties stuff was magnificent. I liked this video more than your usual stuff, because you’re not talking in the usual overdrive. If you want recommendations about the “talking on camera thing” I would say just talk like you talk in everyday life, like you do here. I would certainly watch more of your videos if you wouldn’t be half screaming all the time.

@@zacatkinson3926 The alcohol and drug fuelled behavior. Listen to the podcast, it’s quite interesting. The other band members did an intervention two years ago, threatening to end the band if he didn’t go to rehab. He went to rehab but is now drinking and doing drugs again, so I’m guessing it has something to do with that.

They’re also fed up with Mike talking about bdsm all the fucking time. Which I get. In an interview two weeks ago with “The Rockman Power Hour” he pretty much only wanted to talk about that.

Definately Fat Mike will still be around in other projects etc I'm sure. Have alot of respect for what they made their band, as an older dude saw them late 80s alot opening for bad religion and they really did kinda suck lol and were annoying and they grew musically and were able to build a great fan base around the world and an awesome record label.
