While I'm very disappointed that this game won't get an english dub this time considering how amazing the voice acting was in the first one, this is still a definite buy for me. I loved the first one, genuinely one of the funniest games I've ever played, and I'm excited to see where they plan on taking the story this time. Thanks for the review!

@@babatundeismail6732 I'm honestly really glad they didn't make a sequel to that route, since I absolutely hated it. Barely any of the male characters were still alive by the end. They even lampshade that it's basically just turning into a straight-up harem game. I'm much happier they started from scratch so we could get all the characters to make a return. I haven't finished the game yet, but so far it doesn't feel too much of a retread of the original storyline, and I'm enjoying it quite a lot. Though the new battle system definitely isn't as fun as the original one, so I'd still say I prefer the original overall.

This game is a day one pick up for me! I absolutely loved the 1st game in the series. Actually anything Idea Factory and compile heart put out is a day one purchase for me. I just love their games.

Yeah I seriously can't understand the hate for them, they aren't triple A but they have so much more heart in their games (no pun intended)

@@DieselJT what's your favorite game by them? Anything neptunia I love, but I've really been digging mugen souls lately. I only hope they eventually get more funding because if they had a Square Enix budget they could EASILY put class anything of the modern era

thanks this was an extremely thorough review that went into things that i needed to know much better than other reviews i've seen. i was on the edge of picking it up before, but i'm much more likely to buy it now. i did really like dark advent, but this got so many horrid (though vague) reviews, that i was not feeling good about it at all. until now. thanks.

I will miss the english dub as it gave the last game alot of charm. Hell, I would buy an english dub track for this game if it came as DLC later, thats for sure....

Same here, who knows it may be like xenoblade chronicles in that you can download the Japanese language for free so maybe it’ll be the same but in this case for English.

are there more than one route/ending like the previous game? I remember being able to awaken the evil God instead of the Goddess in Fairy Fencer F

I was kinda hyped since i loved fencer F and the remaster but i'm not into tactical rpg that much. Also i'm sad the english dub isnt there since i enjoyed their voices

I would like to mention that having prior game knowledge helps a lot as most of the previous cast of villains show up in chapter 3 like everyone knows who the hell they are. I am quite sure anyone new to the series would get lost really easily. Secondly, the game does not explain why Sherman falters between light and dark so easily, as he's seen to shift between good and evil early on in the game. Also, Glace participates in every battle you have, she's there to amplify enemy forces and introduce some sort of difficulty. Just some notetaking points that I think should be said in reviews.

So i picked up fairy fencer a while back as my random JRPG to buy each year Really enjoyed it and now seeing it going the tactics route for this game Has me interested. This review has also pushed me towards checking it out eventually to

The previous game in the series (wasn't the PS4 game an enhanced port of the PS3 one?) is the only Compile Heart game I have ever really enjoyed, and I loved it. So I've really been looking forward to this one, and I'm glad to hear that it turned out well.

yes. Advent Dark force was an enhanced version with several changes like different routes.

@Seishin I always thought Advent Dark Force was an enhanced port as well. But the way it's worded in this review made it sound like the ps4 game was a sequel. So thank you for the confirmation. Thought I may have another game to catch up on for a minute there 😅

I think I will give this game a chance in the future. I am not completely sold on the strategy aspect. I don't really like that top-down approach. I think the old game had it's charms because you could connect to the characters visually. With this new game the characters are squeezed down to chess pieces, loosing that "connection". As said, I am really not a big RTS fan (although I can enjoy it in games like Kings Bounty II), and that's what holding me back for now.

it's not an RTS tho It's an SRPG closer to FFTactics or Triangle Strategy, one of the best of its kind

disappointed by there being no English dub considering that the first game had dub voices 🤦♂️, the change in the battle system is also a big turn off for me so I will be waiting for a huge discount as I am not willing to buy for full price, sorry if I sound like a idiot or if it feels like I am trash talking the game, believe me I don’t want to I absolutely loved the first game, I just feel like this is a step backwards rather than forwards.

Presumably PS5 would have the best performance. Well, PC might run better but that's not coming for like another month.

@@BrandonHeat243 I'm not a PC guy, so it comes down to Switch or PS5 for me. Generally I find the Switch more fun to play on, and the added bonus of being able to play handheld is certainly a plus, but if the PS5 has notably better performance or load-times I might be persuaded to get that version instead.

I love Fairy Fencer! But this sequel has no english dub and not a fan of the battle system. I will just replay the previous game.

I know what you mean about the English dub. I actually like SRPGs so the battle system is fine, but developers need to get it in their heads that this isnt 2005 anymore when English dubs were garbage and people preferred Japanese dubs. That isnt the case anymore, and not dubbing a game these days is just being cheap and lazy.

The first one is *way better* than this new game, so your question is a moot point for that reason. You are better off playing the first one *anyway* since it's a masterpiece.

I thought the first Fairy Fencer F: on the switch was fine. I liked its sense of humor and music. But the draw distance was so terrible.

I wonder how it works for non-fans, though -- back then, I gave FF Advent Dark Force a thumb down for being mostly a Neptunia reskin with rushed, short stories (at the time, I hadn't played RB1 and RB2 yet, only RB3 and VII)... Well, I guess more reviews can be uncovered with some bit of click shaping.

Wait, this is a series? I definitely thought Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force was a standalone. I’ve tried playing through it twice and couldn’t finish it either time.

worse, Advent Dark Force it's a remake of the original game that added a side story where you played as the villains this appears to be a sort of pseudo-sequel (as in a rewrite of the original plot that acknowledges this fact, kinda like SMTIVA or Fire Emblem 3 Hopes) the story already involved time traveling and parallel universes so I can see that being the case here as well

Wait, isn't fairy fencer and fairy fencer f the same game? Just a remaster right? Looked it up, there is only "fairy fencer f" and an expanded port. They r not different games!!

There is no such thing as "Fairy Fencer." That simply doesn't exist. All of the games have the F included in the title.

Great to see more of this series, but damn... couldn't they have changed the character illustrations? I know Compile Hearts do things in a budget, but precisely that is a good way of changing things a bit without investing a ton of cash. PS: dang, I freaking hate Pippin.

I played the game on switch and the game was ass (since it was literally copy pasted from neptunia) but Fang and Eryn are the best protagonist duo I've ever seen so I'm in as long as they retain their personalities

Fairy Fencer ADF is a great game. Death's End Re;Quest part 1 is also good. Dragon Star: Varnir has a great story and music and artwork, although the gameplay isn't the best and it doesn't run very well on some PCs.

The lack of an English dub instantly made me lose interest. Especially since the first game and it's enhanced PS4 version had a great dub. Really getting sick of IF getting lazy with their localizations.

I was disappointed too. Normally I wouldn`t mind having no dub but Fairy Fencer F has a very good English voice cast (and a lot of voiced dialogue, too) so knowing that there is no dub leave me very sour to the point that I will wait for a sale.

I much prefer when japanese games have japanese only audio. Typically when they get dubbed, the rest of us who like to enjoy them subbed have to put up with "dubtitles".

The English dub in the ADF version of Fairy Fencer is perfect, and that game would be *much* worse without it, and *no doubt* this new one is missing tonnes of value for not having it too.
