Unboxing the Nokia T20 tablet, one of the best value budget Android tabs in 2021, and strong rival to Amazon's Fire HD. This hands-on review covers the 10-inch slate's specs, battery life, performance (including gaming) and more.
The Nokia T20 is released in the UK today, and can be grabbed for a price of just £179 for the WiFI model. For £199 you can snaffle the WiFi and LTE tablet, with up to 4G connectivity on the move.
This stock Android tab boasts two years of OS updates and three for security, while offering a cleaner UI than Amazon's Fire rivals. For that budget price you get a 10-inch 2000x1200 IPS display that's good for video playback and photo browsing. The Nokia T20's stereo speaker setup is respectable if not too loud, while the 64GB storage can be expanded with microSD.
Specs also include a 5MP front camera and 8MP rear, plus a Unisoc chipset that can handle light gaming. The energy efficiency of that chip means the T20 can keep going all day as well.

Nokia is killing it lately, now with a nice plastic back android tablet. If they market it right, without saturating the market with a million different ones, so people can say "get the Nokia tablet", they'll have a consumer base in no time

Thanks; all reassuring seeing as I ordered the tablet and case yesterday. I just love the way Nokia give us stock Android so I don't have to get my head around whatever weird UI, apps and sign-ups the manufacturer slaps on top. My Nokia 5.3 phone also has 4G RAM and 64 GB storage so I can be confident that will be plenty for my needs. My T20 will mainly be used just to store and display sheet music so nothing too demanding.

I got one too and noticed that it gets warm on the top of the screen when placed vertically. Is it supposed to be warm there? Because I'd assume it's only the back that's supposed to get warm. Happens at max brightness.

Now that looks interesting. I am looking for a replacement for my old HUDL2. I had written off the Amazon tablets because of the firmware and had pretty well decided on a Samsung Galaxy A7. This may be be a better solution due to the 64GB storage and 4GB RAM, both better than the A7. Something that lets down most basic tablets is the display, the HUDL2 is 1920x1200 which on an 8.3 inch screen looks very good. Does this have a micro HDMI outlet? The HUDL2 does and it is very useful for connecting to the TV and watching KZfaq etc. Does it have usb connector? Thanks for a great video.

Great Video as usual, Chris! Thank You! I do think there will be a plethora of "budget" tablets coming out this side of Christmas, so perhaps best to wait to see how the alternatives perform. Better brightness, is definitely desired on FHD tablets, as 400 nits is a bit on the low side, for this sized model. 🤔

Stock Android doesn't have tablet specific features like pop up window, 3 app multitasking, desktop mode, optimised one handed usage etc. It's just plain and simply not great for tablets.

Hi, someone on the amazon page of this device commented: “the device does not have widevine L1 DRM certification - this is down to oversight/laziness of Nokia. As a result, it will not play HD on any of the streaming services (Netflix, Amazon Prime Google Play) - it’s only SD (480p). “ Is this true? How bad do those videos look at 480p vs a fire tablet which is HD?

@@PaddyWV I was referring go the 5G version which is LTE/5G capable. The standard Pad 5 and Pad 5 Pro aren't capable or don't have a sim slot to be precise. I'd like a Tablet that is capable of media consumption everywhere. Mobile Hotspot isn't my cup of tea

@@VinnyUnion probably much cheaper direct from Chinese online shopping mall. I forgot the name but Lenovo tab P11 pro is actually made by another Chinese company and if you buy their version, it's much cheaper but you need to install English interface after getting it. I'm using tab p11 pro for online classes and I love it.

Gawd dam I do sounded so civilized a year ago. Oh well, a year later *_surprise, surprise_* - I've re-discovered the T20 and still haven't purchased a tablet/phablet, lol & yikes ... Either way, it seems like the updates has been really crappy for the Nokia 20 (particularily android 12). Meh, many tablets did release this year but still no holy grail no-brainer purchase. At this point I might settle for that Samsung tab A7 or whatever.

They are very competitive with their specs lately. They finally ditched micro-usb from their old stock, and coupled with durable plastic builds, they are easy to recommend

@@Amanullah-dx5uy they are, and it's a good chip for everyday tasks. The sd 4xx series is the energy efficient line. Buy an iphone or flagship android if you want flagship performance. Not everyone does

Looks like a great proposition, but does it still only support widevine L3, ie 480p for Netflix, Amazon, and other streaming services? That's Bad. I mean, considering this is a consumer-orientated media-consumption device. News is quite mixed about this - Some forum answers say it will Never have a firmware upgrade to L1 ie full HD.

seems like a nice tablet from nokia and the price is right. i personally like the fire tablets specifically the fire hd10 plus which also has 4gb of ram which is the same as the ipad pro models. fire tablets offer huge discounts around prime day and black friday so are hard to beat but if nokia can offer deals too i can see this doing quite well. i love the 12 hour long battery life of the fire hd10 plus as it last and lasts so if this nokia can compete itll be a a real contender.

The Unisoc T610 is about snapdragon 665 or maybe more like the 632 in my Moto G7 Power. So it's actually usable and not too bad as long as you stay within it's limits.

UniSOC T610 is around the level of Mediatek Helio G70/Snapdragon 662. Definitely not weak, especially for daily usage

It's refreshing to see a tablet with FM Radio support. I still listen to it everyday, so having that kind of functionality definitely wins me. I do think that Nokia can give 128GB internal storage option for this tablet.

2:01 - uhhh, couldn't you just flip it so that the headphone jack is at the top instead of in your hands? I know the camera & labeling orients it with it at the bottom, but I assume the gyro will orient the screen properly still.

(4:47) That's an incredibly weird icon shape, so I really hope there's an option to switch to just using circular icons like on Google Pixel. Honestly, I'm considering getting one as it's a tablet that doesn't have all those Samsung One UI and Huawei EMUI annoyances that annoyed me when I tried retail demo units. I'd wait for a retail demo of this to show up in a shop as I'd like to see if there's a way to switch that weird icon shape to circles.
