The Righteous Brothers actually got their name from black audiences. According to Bill Medley, when they were performing as a group called The Paramours on a Marine base, the black marines would shout out things like “That was righteous, brothas!”, and would call them the “righteous brothers” when they greeted them, so he and Bobby decided to adopt it as their name when they went duo.

First, don’t worry about the haters. And when the Righteous Brothers came out, EVERYONE thought they were black. It’s not like there was social media or even cable tv. Music is meant to make people FEEL... white, black, Latino, whatever. That’s why it’s called the universal language. And every rock band has borrowed from old blues singers. The Beatles, Stones, Presley, they all cite black artists as inspirations. I’m just glad we as an audience get to experience all of it!

My whole high school was in a state of shock after their first appearance on TV. They're WHITE???? You could hear it all over school. Kids were shocked but also kind of proud. It was a mixing of cultures. It was something great that hopped boundaries. It was perfect.

Music makes you feel RACE CATEGORIES Unique interpretation of music n why we think the way we do. Interesting My SHARE WE are ALL THE SAME SPECIES Everybody around the World can sing SOUL BLUES, Rock, Country Western, heavy Metal. AND singers can sing every GENRE of music. We USA citizens have been programmed to think like the People who made up ALL THE RACE/Ethnicities Categories. Same Species There were Black American Radio stations that wouldn't Play the Righteous Brothers Because they were White. LOL RACISM IS used BY OUR USA government to keep US (A) citizens from uniting n achieving Real Power for the People

They called it "Blue eyed soul". Janis Joplin's favorite singers, that influenced her greatly were Billie Holliday and Aretha Franklin. ... Music is just music ... it doesn't have a color ... it starts somewhere, .... but once it's out there, it's everyone's.

Tell the haters to go eff off. Noticing skin color doesn't make a person racist. A racist is someone that feels their race is superior to others. You point out that the Righteous Brothers don't fit into they stereotypical "white singer" sound. That isn't racist. It is called a stereotype because the majority of people in the specific group adhere to a specific norm. Not all stereotypes are about race; they can be about locations, jobs, political parties, marital status; the possibilities are endless. So long as you don't pigeonhole a person into ALWAYS having to adhere to a stereotype it is okay to recognize them. Personally I get a kick out of young people reacting to older music. By admitting that I am actually stating that there is a stereotype of younger generations not appreciating the music of the past. You sir, have another subscriber. Keep listening to new and different music. I love your reactions.

I don't think what you said was racist at all, and I'm a 47 year old white woman. That doesn't change the fact that I know who Etta James is and I love her music. She was the one of the Greatest, and layed the foundation of the beginning of women in blues that wouldn't settle for being a backup singer for a male artist, she got out front and belt it out there to the point they couldn't not let her sing anymore or a woman takes Center Stage. Back in those days it wasn't acceptable for a woman to be the front singer at all, but it didn't stop her!!! Also check-out the first appearance on television of Ray Charles singing with Willie Nelson, they did a duet together called "Seven Spanish Angels" and they're sitting there at the piano playing and singing together and that's what it's about right there! Plain and simple talent for talent, appreciating each other, and making music that makes people move inside! Who gives a crap what color someone is if they have the gift to make people feel this way or move people in a certain way it doesn't matter it is God-given Talent! People just need to get over their stereotypes and their selves really. Enjoy the history of everything that's in America and how it came to be.

Blast from the Past. Stumbled on your video and kept watching your expression. This being your first time hearing them i was curious. Being slightly older, i know these old songs and i know they are white but i know they have got soul. Soul is in your hart and it has nothing to do with the colour of your skin (or age). Thank you, you kept me smiling for the best part of your video

You are great. I was there when the Righteous Brothers were around (Bill Medley & Bobby Hatfield), so no spring chick here, but no way can I sit stlill listening to them even now! Age is a number and until mines up I’ll “rock” to these two.

You are so sweet and polite. Now you know that soul isn't a color.

I didn't know this was one of their songs. (I was born in 1966.) However, the beat is perfect for making love.

Bill has the soulful deep voice. Bobby doesn’t sing much but echoes Bill a couple of times.

"I Just Want to Make Love to You" is a blues song written by Willie Dixon. In 1954, it was recorded by Muddy Waters, and released as a single. A black blue singer was the first to sing this song and copied by many artist. It's sad Muddy Waters never received the true recognition who originated singing this song.

The Righteous Brothers and early Hall and Oates(both duos in different eras)I guess you could say were an anomaly and were true fans of 1950’s and early 1960’s electric blues, soul, and rock and roll music. They were there when this kind of music(s) started to happen and couldn’t help but being effected by it. You are very expressive and more than some I have seen and though others too might like this and are, too, equally shocked by it I really love your reactions. I will also offer this...surprise, acknowledgement and the enjoyment of peoples talents no matter who they are is a good thing and as pure an honest as you can get. Thank you.

This is a classic example, and proof, that music is truly a universal language. We all ‘got it’. Explanations not needed, excuses not needed. The sound was distinctly blues.... down and dirty Mississippi/ Louisiana blues and blue is the only color here.

Everybody's got soul it's not exclusive to anyone. There are just some that do it better than others.

Of course you're not a racist! I'm an 81 yo white woman and grew up with all the great black soul singers. It was magical. These were the kings of blue eyed soul.
