Tyler was sick of sky rocketing rental prices in Vancouver canada, so he bought an old city work van and spent six months converting the E-350 van into a highly functional stealth camper van. This tiny home is fully equipped with rain water catchment, pressurized water, shower, fold out bed, kitchen, collapsible dinning table. and every thing else a Tiny house would need. Though out my time with Tyler I could tell that he spent uncountable hours researching through youtube videos and intelligent thought to put the van together the way he had. This van is a true testament to the comfort possible in Van Life.
Thanks Tyler for the tour of your Van home.

The orange safety vests, and the cones! XD Epic troll, helps with the stealth. You can get away with almost anything if you're wearing a reflective safety vest, have a badge of some sort on a lanyard, and pull up in a work truck / van. It's amazing, cause even cops don't look twice.

Been gaining information about van life for the last year or so and this video proves what I've been thinking. You don't need to spend a ton of money to have a high quality of life in a van. This is just a great video. And the fact that you carry a decent tool chest with you at all times is absolutely necessary in my opinion. The one criticism I have and it's a mild one is those orange cones you put out to ward off would be knocks on your door. It's obvious to me that those cones serve absolutely no purpose and if I saw them I would immediately wonder what the driver of the van was thinking placing them like that and I would become suspicious.

For all the people in the comments section saying this van "isn't stealth", what do you think would make it stealth? A company logo on the side? A number to call about the person's driving? Fake paneling on the inside that covers up all the household stuff and makes it look industrial? Stuff jammed up against the windows like pieces of lumber, pvc pipe, etc. to create the illusion that the back of the van is packed full of construction supplies? What are we talking about here? To me, stealth van living means that someone looking at the van parked from the outside with all the drapes/shutters closed won't be able to tell the van is being lived in. Of course if they see you come outside in the morning in your pajamas and fuzzy bunny slippers, the jig is up.

I thought I'd be the only one who instead of camping, hiking, surfing or 'outdoor adventure' gear wound make room for a good number of my gongs, glitch/modulating-delay/looper pedals & various instruments to make what regular people call 'experimental music'. I feel less alone. Yeh.

It may not look like those $100,000 RVs but simplicity pays. It's highly practical and the longer you're in it, driving from place to place the more mods you think of and can just add in. A superb build all round, especially the stealth decoys. Very nice.

Tyler Finlay, exactly, that's the beauty of it. If something doesn't work right you can rip it out and try something different. Obviously a $100,000 RV would be nice but not practical for the kind of stealth camping and boon docking this one is designed for and I bet it's pretty cosy in there, snuggled up under the duvet while the wind and the rain are lashing outside. I'm quite inspired to have a go myself.

Hands down, best sleep ever in that thing! Storms are wonderful when in the van with a warm drink looking out the window at the ocean :) I am glad you found some inspiration from checking out the video! Check out my Instagram account linked in the description to see more progress shots and detailed descriptions of the build and recently a few before and after shots of a red Chevy Astro van I converted for a kite surfer from England residing in Vancouver. It was a relatively inexpensive build, specific to summer kite surfing trips holding kite gear and a board with the option to sit inside with the bed folded away. Build was under $1000 for labour and materials, hardware, fabrics, paint and foam for the bed! If you can find a decent van for under a few thousand you are well on your way, especially if in a warmer climate! Good luck David!

The Reality of #VanLife is a feature length documentary about the over glamorization of a lifestyle that was originally inspired by freedom, and is now being used to capitalize on the trend of wanderlust, bikini clad women, and Westfalias on Instagram. I interview a bunch of Van dwellers about the different challenges they face, and I actually try to make myself van life famous on instagram in the second half of the movie, to comedic results. I put a ton of work into this documentary and would love it if you would go give it a watch! It is absolutely free! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d5x9lsyrp7avkXk.html

I’ve taken more steps into not being so materialistic anymore and not being attached to the internet. I am almost in tears after seeing your video and those words at the end. I live in a desolate/remote town and was living in my truck in San Diego trying to save money to buy an overhead camper but things got complicated due to a small house I own in Colorado and 99% miserable and depressed and struggling to make the right decisions to sell the house or rent it out for a few years so I buy a good reliable used truck. One of the things I was always concerned was being obvious in public. I have health problems and carried a big beach cruiser on the roof of the pick up, had it tied down and just looked weird. After seeing your bike on the side I was really really impressed to see how wonderful it fitted and loved it. The 4x4 vans are super expensive even to convert them though and its something I really desire to have, 4x4 capability. I want to go into the beaches of Baja or remote places to park. If I sold the house I'd get about 25 thousand, what I paid for and would invest it in a piece of land in Baja and make payments so I can have a place to go when I'm not traveling. I have dual citizenship also and buying land in Baja would help me with crossing the San Diego border to my medical needs and if I get sick or something ever goes bad medically I'll have a place to park or even get a small trailer t put on the land or even have other RV/VAN dwellers stop on over if needed for a few days or even make some money and let em park for cheap in exchange for some work or who knows what! But the most important thing is stealth in the vehicle and going stealth in the coast of San Diego is a big deal to me so I can enjoy parking anywhere and not get hassled so I applause your bright orange idea of work vests also I'm also a musician and currently selling my Mesa Boogie 4x12 cabinets so I can buy 2 combo amps instead of his huge rack I have. I also keep thinking that I really have not much to live for anymore or loose so perhaps coughing up for a good higher price tagged high top empty van or truck would be a way out and into a new fulfilling life.

I really like what he has done. What I struggle with is why do people feel they need to put a toilet in their van? Every place I have camped there was a toilet near by. When I did some hiking make sure I have a small shovel to dig the cat holes and all is good. I have my CDL A (no longer drive trucks) and I have crashed there for a time. Still his setup looks really good.

In case of emergency. 1) When you gotta go, you GOTTA go 2) Go to sleep in deserted area, wake up and it's crowded 3) There's a bear/mountain lion/pit bull outside. And you gotta go.
